i really fail to see what all you people are complaining about. SOE doesnt have any obligation to provide an open beta. Oh, but wait, you are all the same people that complain that they want to play a game, complain about release dates, but then when the company steps it up but cuts open beta you still complain. who really gives a ****. rather than spending 6 hours downloading the 10gig client you can go to the store in 2 weeks and buy the sucker, and if you dont like it sell it on ebay to get your money back, simple as that.
on a side note you say that WoW is so great because it offered a 6 day free version of the game, of which they have ENTIRELY changed the game since then with the client update and the patch. not to mention they cant meet their publisher set goal of the 15th launch, they cant even get open beta out. all you people who think the game is coming out nov. 22 are really kidding yourselves, and if you disagree take a look at the troves of beta testers on the official boards that say the same thing.
dont get me wrong, i really like wow, but im tired of seeing people rag all over EQ2 for such rediculous reasons. maybe the topic of this thread should be changed to "Im a woW fanboi senselessly bashing EQ2 in hopes my game will be more successful" cause this reason is just childish.

Ok if you think that they will not release by Nov 22 I might give you one week on top of that. But I tell you that no matter what Blizzard has a parent company and their parent company wants cash not pushed back release dates they won't care if the servers are crashing every ten minutes they will have the sucker on the store shelves by Dec 1. PERIOD. As for buying it in the store and selling the game on ebay rarely do games get there store bought price so right there you lose money. The 6 day free version at least allowed a whole lot of people to get a chance to play the game and just the little snippet has hooked many people into waiting for WoW. Good idea to give people enough to wet there lips. SOE should give a week of open so people can taste. The game may not be finished but EQ1 is enough to bring a lot of people over to the second coming. It will succeed as will WoW each in their own manor and each with problems and solutions from day one!

Yeah... EQ2 is showing that they are ashamed of their product...
I, for one, will not buy an SOE MMO without knowing what I'm paying for... been disappointed by their stuff several times.
Its EQ2's loss... we wont buy their game... thats how it works. We are the consumers and they need to fetch. If they dont, well... they wont get our business.

I am currently in the WoW beta and won't be buying the game. I have many friends in the EQ2 beta, and won't be buying the game. For those of you that do not wish to buy the game without a freebie trial offer - well, most companies offer you 1 month free with subscription.

Just curious... Do you buy non-MMORPGs without beta testing? Just curious becuase $50 down the drain is $50 down the drain, no matter if its a MMORPG or a single player game.
Personally I've never turned down a game because I didn't get to beta test it. Haha free month with subscription....now lets see you have to buy the software so the first month is actually 50 bucks on average. Then you get to pay 15 a month. Pretty expensive FREE month that you somehow have come up with.
Exactly. The first month is the costliest one. Even if you try the game for five minutes before you decide the game is just NOT for you, you cant return the game because of the included month. I totally agree with alot of you guys here... its our duty as consumers to make sure that a trial is the standard... and it pretty much is... with single/multiplayer demos and 7-14 day free trials we should never have to buy a game blindly ever again. All SOE really did was beat Blizzard to Market, smart move on their end simply for the fact that Halo 2 comes out on the same day, stores will be packed, copies will be sold.
Now, I am going to buy both EQ2 and Wow. If EQ2 is good and Wow is good I will keep both accounts, I should have 30 free days of playtime to make my decision.
This is just like the console wars, PS2vsXboxvsGC, it is simply retarded, regardless of how loyal and how intense your allegiance is to any of the companies, you are simply a tick mark on a marketing graph. They simply don't care how much you love them or hate them. You want to make waves and show how much you don't like their product simply do not buy it. For example I purchased all 3 systems, just like I will be purchasing EQ2 and Wow, why? because I wouldn't want some retarded "allegiance and loyalty". denying me the experience.
To put it simply, if it sucks, I close the account, if it improves, I already have my discs and can re-open at any time.

Ahh- but will they beat WoW's open beta? Thats the real question, isnt it? I think it's already been said but if WoW open beta beats or matches EQ2's release, WoW will get a bigger share. If you ask anyone- they'd rather try a game for free for two weeks and if they dont like it go buy EQ2 over buying EQ2 and then if they dont like it buy WoW. But just for curiosity's sake...

Agreed, but at the same time everyone can't get into the betas so it seems like the whole point of most discussions is that if I can't try it, it sucks and I won't buy it. The only other options are a)buy em both, or b) wait for the free trials, you just will not be there on day 1.
which, might not be a bad thing because of all the congestion.
Isn't practically every mmo out there still beta? The code is never finished, and always being fixed, tweaked and updated? All of these games are made to a releaseable version, then patched til the end of time, or server sunset.

About Eve, Im not sure if i understand this correctly, the difference between closed and open beta is that with closed beta, only select people are able to get into beta. In open beta any1 can. As far as I remember back then I applied and got accepted immediately without any problems. Not sure if it was open or closed beta. Could anyone clarify the difference between Open and Closed beta please? thanks
"The only thing that is better then a bottle of beer is a bottle of beer full of beer" - old Gnomish proverb
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Open beta means instant acceptance into the beta- anyone can play... they may still have some requirements though like that you live in North America or meet certain PC specs.
If you apply and the next screen says "Congratulations!" it's most likely an open beta.
Closed betas have a signup and they contact you via email if you are chosen.
Also, it is true that "Open Beta" is a reletively new idea... but before these OBs, MMORPG's would just let a TRUCK LOAD of beta applicants into the closed beta in the last couple weeks. I remember I was invited into the DAoC and AO betas about 2 weeks before release.

EQII's open beta will start on Nov. 9th only you will have to pay to play it just like SWG.
Anyone want to guess the over under on how many revamps they will have within the year, or how many bugs will still be in the game a year from now that were from release.

4th question down.
BTW, that's a sweet animated icon you got there
Thnx
About Eve, Im not sure if i understand this correctly, the difference between closed and open beta is that with closed beta, only select people are able to get into beta. In open beta any1 can. As far as I remember back then I applied and got accepted immediately without any problems. Not sure if it was open or closed beta. Could anyone clarify the difference between Open and Closed beta please? thanks

I think this thread should be moved out of the WoW forum But hey! <lol>
I am currently in the WoW beta and won't be buying the game. I have many friends in the EQ2 beta, and won't be buying the game. For those of you that do not wish to buy the game without a freebie trial offer - well, most companies offer you 1 month free with subscription.

EQII's open beta will start on Nov. 9th only you will have to pay to play it just like SWG.
Anyone want to guess the over under on how many revamps they will have within the year, or how many bugs will still be in the game a year from now that were from release.
