Ive been playing this game for a couple of weeks and i think its very good. Like most games in open beta and just released it needs work but im still enjoying it alot. it really starts to get interesting when you get higher level with your 2 classes.
This is coming from someone who has played nearly every major mmo since eq1 open beta, and who has hated every asian or f2p game he has ever tried.
I find it really scary that people in this thread are saying it takes 12 months to realize wow sucks... it took me about 2 weeks to decide WoW was not for me.
There is a MASSIVE difference between stating a game sucks and stating that a game is not for me.
You are intelligent and realize that it's not because something is not for you does not mean it's a crappy game.
The OP needs to learn this, and there's no way I'd ever believe he has played many MMOs. Otherwise he'd see the finer points of this objectively.
Yes it's pretty much an Asian WoW, except it's made more in the spirit of fun while WoW is catered to PWN Your Faces people, or those unfortunate who don't know better yet. ;P
Also I have a hard believing anyone trashing this game has any experience with F2P....
WoW is a good game, people are either just bored of it or they just like to be rebellious and go against it. If it wasn't a good game, why would so many people still be playing?
you dont like it? so f***ing what! I dont give a crap if you like WoW, WAR or any other game. Play or dont play whatever you want, dont come here to justify your decsion to me or anyone else, one way or another, no one gives a crap.
When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.
i'll acually have to agree with that the game is sort of booring, from the beginning it's ok , exploring but after a while you keep repeating doing dailys , hard quests nearly impossible for you'r lvl and grinding is not an option after 35, because the exp is too low and your items suck for pvp.
i hope the game gets better , i quited at 39/24
For those who seek humanity, earth is the wrong place
This game is AWC(Another Wow Clone ).Boring beginning and boring leveling. For F2P is kinda good but it's nothing special actually It must be somewhere between 7 and 7.50..The charaters are lame (knight...rouge,warrior...)The graphics are fine, but still nothing special...And some of the skils do over the top effects like EXTREME BLEEDING(for actually quite lame attack with a dagger....).Just a flashy game...and what's wrong with the menus I never seen so much menus for no reason.
you dont like it? so f***ing what! I dont give a crap if you like WoW, WAR or any other game. Play or dont play whatever you want, dont come here to justify your decsion to me or anyone else, one way or another, no one gives a crap.
Kiddo, don't act like you speak on behalf of the entire community. And since you posted, you obviously "gives a crap".
To those of you who claims this is a good game - one question:
Have you played it at higher lvls (35-40+), not just 1-20??
That's an entirely different game, just so you know. For most parts, you have 2 options: do dailies, or grind. There are very few regular quests available, especially after lvl 40.
I have no intentions on grinding through 10-15 lvls 2 times, both with main and secondary classes. That's one of the reasons why I gave up this game.
Someone who says they have played many mmo's and only in last few months have played WoW i find really hard to believe as wow is an old game and everyone in the mmo has played it years ago and got bored of it. In addition, if you find wow sucks after three months, a game which offers all of the mmo elements in one game then i dont think mmo's are for you. WoW does suck but you can only really say that after 6-12 months but only because it gets repetative which means the original ideas are fun and playable its just once you see one muloc you seen them all. As a free game I will be trying RoM and it sounds totally different to most mmos with the pvp element they have implemented but you wont see that at this stage of the game nor after such a limited review.
I have played WoW collectively for probably 18 months. I have quit 4 times. I feel Its a great game but familiarity breeds contempt... and too much of anything will get boring after awhile no matter how good it is. I have played dozen's of mmorpg's and in my opinion nothing compares to WoW in content, artistry and polish. I quit the game because I got bored with it. Just like after 4 days in Vegas I'm ready to go home... but I don't say Vegas sucks cause I got bored in 4 days. If you can play a game for 6 to 12 months before getting bored... most likely it doesn't suck.
Hrmmmm.... I dunno. I been playing this game for a few days now. up to level 23 and I can honestly say that it is a pretty fun game. Sure it has WoW elements to it, but I also see a bunch of eq1 elements to it to. Unlike EQ, the community in game is absolutely awesome. I am really surprised at how easy it is to get a group together to go kill a boss. Even level 50's are running around buffing and helping folks to kill these things. I like the debt system. It keeps you from zerging stuff because death does matter. Another thing I like is that if you see a named, you dont run up and try to win, they will kick your butt in about 2 seconds. Its about time someone brought that back. EQ2 did a horrible job with named mobs. To many of them and a good portion was easily solo'd. Not in this game.
I still dont know why people harp on quests. Quests in all mmo's are basically the same. If they were boring to you in another game, they are going to be boring to you in every game. They are there to make the grind, less of a grind. Every MMO has grinding and tons of it. It is the basic formula for playing an MMO. Their are acceptions to the rule however, There can be to much grinding (no quests) and most korean mmo's suffer from this.
Personally I think they are on the right track. There are interface issues I would like to see and movement issues that I feel need to be worked out but so far it is a pretty dang nice game to be free.
I know, i know. To many people are comparing MMORPGs to World of Warcraft and saying they are all a ripoff from WoW. But hear me out!
This game sucks? If that isn't trolling, I don't know what is. I'll bet a lot of folks didn't even read this post -- you should be more creative with titles in the future.
Also, I wouldn't say it's a WoW clone, but it does have that WoW-ish look. The cartoon-like graphics are what turned me off to WoW and is the reason I won't be spending much time in RoM. I feel about this game the way I feel about WoW -- to me it's good for casual gamers and folks who want a happy-happy-joy-joy experience.
It just hard for me to seriously immerse myself in a game that looks like I should be watching it on TV Saturday morning.
ive been plaing the game for the last couple days and i found it to pretty much blow!. Nothing but a grind fest.. Then you get ganked by someone 20 lvl's higher then you.. they loot a item off you soemtimes.. Back to grinding.. UHGGGG!!!! same community as WOW....nothing fun at all.....
This troll has been brought to you by( peoples right to hate your game)
Actually after playing this game, I'm sure i will never play another FTP ever again...yeah its free to play if you only want half the features....chess>back pain>RoM in that order
The first 15 levels (about 10 hours play time to get both classes there) felt fresh and casual. The game went smoothly and did'nt give me the impression that it was a grindfest. That changed in a huge way however. Suddenly all there is to do are daily quests of grinding mobs or bosses that require full teams to defeat. The game completely went stagnant on me and my sense of fun went right down the toilet. Just another grinder with a sour community and nothing offered to make it a worthwhile endeavor.
Characters deleted. Uninstalled. Zip files dumped. Back to looking for a decent game.

You pretty much described every MMORPG in existence. These games are designed to have repetitive elements which keep you advancing so you keep playing. It's a bit hard to design a game like this and have everything stay "fresh and casual" day in and day out. Maybe the genre isn't for you?

It is getting to be that way I will admit. I do also have to admit that the game is not yet feature complete and still in beta. That said, nearly every new mmorpg out now just seems to dump you into time sinks instead of having any fluidity to leveling through the content which is in painfully short supply any more. This game has it's fair share of time sinks and grinds and just leaves me with little motivation to spend my time there. Also note that those are MY experiences and I did NOT say the game sucks... it does for ME but that is my opinion and based on MY likes and dislikes. If the game rocks for you then party on!
Oh and thanks for the brotherly advice and for assuming I'm incapable of understanding the methodology of " every MMORPG in existence". Just because (in your words (perhaps you meant to add "nearly"?))" every MMORPG in existence" behaves the way this one does in regards to the context of my complaints DOES NOT make them the benchmark of what an MMORPG should be but rather the NORM. I prefer to play games that rise above that and ROM falls flat on it's face IMHO.
This game sucks? If that isn't trolling, I don't know what is.
Need examples?
How about attacking ppl for mixing "s" and "z", and ranting on about how hard it is to take them seriously because of it? Telling ppl to go back to Hello Kitty? Or to start playing with Barbie dolls? Etc.
Sounds familiar?
OT:
I have to agree with the OP, this game sucks. Not at low lvls, but at higher lvls, it's made to "force" you to use the CS, and to spend a lot there, especially if you play on a PvP server.

I dont have a problem with you not liking the game, everyone has their own tastes and a single MMO is not going to please everyone. With that said, what game do you like that does rise above the norm? ROM has some very unique things built into it that are not in any other mmo that I have seen and in a way, to me, it puts it a little higher than many subscription based MMO's out there. Thats not to say it doesnt have problems to, but heck, pretty much all subscription based MMO's have bugs even years after being out so thats not really that unusual.

I never mentioned bugs. They can be fixed or, to some extent, ignored if they don't affect the playability or mechanics of the game.
Like I said... I'm back to LOOKING for a decent game. Too bad Anarchy Online is so nerfed and the economy of the game so out of balance due to farmers and goldsellers or I'd happily go play it again. Perhaps LOTRO? I hate the thought of going back to consoles *shudders*
