Classic Everquest Server Petition - Calling All Oldschool Players

maskedmelonmaskedmelon Member Posts: 1

If you are an Everquest Trilogy oldschool enthusiast and would like to see Sony Online Entertainment launch a 2001- ruleset server, please visit the following site and fill out the petition:

http://www.classiceqpetition.com/about.php

If you are not interested in such an experience, no worries, there are plenty of other mmo's out there xD.

I am not affiliated with with the maker of that site, nor am I affiliated with Sone Online Entertainment.

About

There have been whispers and pleas, even shouts of excitement about a return to Classic EverQuest. Many have considered our numbers to be too few, or our convictions too varied, but the pleas and efforts of those who yearn for Old Norrath to achieve what we desire are too strong to be ignored. One result of this collective desire was the creation of the Classic EverQuest Petition.

The ruleset outlined in the Classic EverQuest Petition is a request to breathe life into the old game we all have come to enjoy throughout the years and bring back meaning to the original zones and lore. Those who long to stroll down Norrath’s well traveled paths once again are many in number, but being spread across many game worlds, it has remained a silent longing... until now.

The Classic EverQuest Petition hails a return to a style of gameplay that is long forgotten by modern games, yet remains greatly desired; one that has since been replaced by ever increasing mudflation driven by a desire to receive advancement with little effort spent to achieve it. We do not desire easy mode gameplay with its rapidly earned experience, equipment which has no fame among the lands yet carries ever heavy bonuses, and its focus on very high end raiding over all else.

We are the players who desire to play a game that has its focus on the lore in the lands we tread upon, challenge that is risky but not without its rewards, and maybe even to best a dragon or two... but most of all we long for the social environment that can only exist in such a game. We believe that these are all found back in Old Norrath, and after battling long and hard in many lands we are ready to take up arms yet again in the place we all once knew as home.

These lofty desires we hold cannot be fulfilled in Modern EverQuest simply by limiting ourselves to certain content, or by creating a server with content simply locked off. To truly capture the style of gameplay and social environment we long for requires all of the rules and mechanics of the Classic era, with all the challenge and hardship they carry. Each and every rule contributed to the experience. It was not just the newness of the world that attracted us, but the focus of The Vision on building a world rich in lore... and unforgiving in consequences; much like another world we know.

It may not be a perfect world, but it is our world... and we want to be in it again!

Signed, but i lost all hope years ago.

Like the husband and wife who signed saying they would pay $50/mo, everyone has to leave a comment involving big money.

    Only then, it may happen.

I think they could give you a semblance of that request by locking out a few expansions.  However, there is stuff in later patches not necessarily involved around game design; stuff related to versions of Direct X, Vista compatibility, graphic card compatibility, and stuff like that.

But definitely, a game locking out all expansions after Velious (although I did like LDON).

You know SoE is only doing this because Eqclassic.org had a nice following. They had alot of work done. But then SoE decided to take action and threatened them. I do wonder how many EQ players would come back to play eventhough they have already experienced it. I bet ya 5, that small niche of players will have the best community =D

Won't happen. Ever. People have been clamoring for this since the Planes of Power expansion came out in 2002, and even before that with Luclin, and it's always fallen on deaf ears. A new petition now won't make a damned bit of difference.

The closest anyone will ever get to a "Classic EQ" server in the current game is the Progression servers. That's it.

Even if its not gonna happen if there are enough people that want it.. I hope it happens for them.

I can't see myself going back there.. but if it would make a bunch of people happy and make soe money... then more power to everyone.

How about you just give up on SOE and go find another game to play.     It's just wasted energy, trust me.

Whoever wants whatever type of server better be around when they open up voting for their new server in March. Article found here: EverQuest merging servers, adding NEW server in 2009

    Copy Pasta:

In addition, in conjunction with the upcoming EQ 10th Anniversary celebration, SOE is expecting to add a new EQ server in March 2009 and players will be able to vote on a new server type. To provide your input on the type of server you’d like, visit EQplayers.com in January.

signed , but with little hope.

SOE are just too money grubbing now to do something like this.

I think I would have more fun recreating classic EQ at a LARP convention than I would playing that game.  The actual demand for that kind of server must be staggerlingly low.

I loved the old school EQ, I spent many many many hours playing it (I think somewhere around 1000 days+ playtime, I was an addict hehe).  I would love to see a classic version of EQ, but I would not come back to EQ until SOE isn't running the show.  SOE is too greedy and I'm too stingey with my money.  SOE will probably never do this, as it takes away one of thier main money makers, expansions.  Only game I know that has a subscription, expansions every 6 months, AND an item shop...Is SOE greedy or what?

There were the combine and progression servers put out a couple years ago that started eq from scratch. Not sure if they are the same as you are asking for  but the thoughts ao a few exp is good enough for me. i loved classic eq even thought the death penalty made me crazy. hope this works.

While I have great memories of EQ I just dont think I could go through all that again....... EQ took up too much of my time, especially the raiding (and I was only in a casual guild)........ It sounds liek theres alot of interest but how many of these players would stay long term is another question......

I think it would surprise a lot of people how long people will stay around, especially if they new SOE was only going to Velious and stopping. That should let people slow down and smell the roses. I know I would play for years. I like static, things are familar. Life changes so much as it is, at least the gaming world could be ta familar place. : )

I wouldn't mind playing less than I did back when it was released. It would only take me longer to finish, which is a good thing.

I signed.  They may not make a classic server, but then again you never know.

    Good Luck

How about insted of everyone putting this idea down they actually try to help a little bit. You never know it could happen. And if SoE really wanted to do it it wouldnt cost them anything there is enough people out there that have the skills to design it and that would do it for free.

  • andy3080andy3080 Member Posts: 5

And then after they create it give it to SoE and let them put a fee on it for a month charge.

How true a statement.  I could not play again with Sony's attitude.

For one I'd expect them to reduce the subscription fee to something like $5 a month,  $15-$25 or what ever they are charging is way too much for an older game. I used to pay $9.86 when it first started and it's never got cheaper, even though the bandwidth and costs of servers are less or already paid off.

Even though Eq1 is still my best rated mmorpg, even compared to latest releases, it needs to be cheaper to play.

With the econimic climate, Sony wont be able to afford keeping projects like this going unless they attract more customers then the groupies.

I'd be amazed if they would do this request as bugs and programming structure would be a nightmare.

Which version would you use, when there is a mass history of corrections.  Fixing game bugs and software errors would be all over the place.  It would take new development to include new video routines, etc.  Maybe Sony wouldn't want to use the old server layout either, like the older code may require more server machines then used in today's game. The list goes on.
