you know, it's odd you guys take video games so seriously....
IT"S A FRIGGEN HOBBY lol
stop smoking cigs for a year, or go out and help homeless people or something for a year, now thats sacrifice and accomplishment, this is just sad if people take games so seriously
He's right. I mean, come on, these things are made by a team of humans who look just like us.... then we go and get all serious about them and start paying money to have some avatar who is made up of armor and guns/swords that we can feel proud of because he is level 69 or whatever.
We should all follow the Ops example and have a MMO-free 2009! Rawr!
Why are there so many cutesie, fantasy, childish MMO's. Give me blood, gore and a long lasting challenge. I don't need my hand being held along the way. Thanks.

Or how about hand out smokes to homeless people for a year. ( nvm you probably already do that if you live in the city)
lol how cna you have fun in that no playing the whole year omg your completely leaving your life ahha you want to play tickling dog or feed your goldfish, man you can skip for a week but not too long you will loose your mind hehehe
Well, I've honestly never thought about giving up games. I'm going to continue playing games until I grow tired of them, if that ever happens. There's a time for games and a time to party, but moderation is the key to both.
wow good luck with that. If i was to go down a similar path then it would be cutting back on gaming to 4 hours a week (i manage about 10-15 normally) or something like that.
Cutting out gaming altogether is a good idea if you can manage it (break your computer, fall down a well, ect) but to do so would require quite a bit of effort that honestly (in my opinion) would be wasted.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
can you even use those words in a sentence together? No games for a year? what's that mean, I'm confused. You need work on your grammar. What does No games for a year mean?
joking aside, I should probably cut back on my gaming hours, but going cold turkey...I would die, shrivel up into a ball and die. I have to at least have my Wii and PS3 if not my online games. I think since 1990 the longest I've gone without playing any games was a whole week or almost 8 days, I was on vacation in Cancun lol. Second thing I did when I got back to my house was hop on my SNES and play some final fantasy Yeah i'm crazy...

The man with 2707 posts said. And anyway how so stoping smoking cigs make it a hobbie at all. A hobbie is to pass the time. How the hell do you pass the time ''not'' doing something. If you get my point?
@OP: Even if you try, the second you will be bored, what will think about? Video games! The second you will be at the job, bored once again, where will you go? On the forums, on the internet. And then there will be this gem of a game coming out... and guess what will happen? You are right. Bye bye the resolution.
Since you have a family, believe me, you are stuck in this patern. The best way to escape the video game addiction is to leave to some fereign place and work. Even there you will only think about video games. Arf, addictions are addicting. ( did I do it right? )
THIS IS THE DARK AGES MY FRIENDS! Soon enough something big will happen and games will be the least of our problem.
Personally I've been off MMOs since about August 2008. When I left AoC. So yeah I'm now entering my 5th month of no MMOs. I've played just about every other PC game offline though. I've got to say I feel a lot more in control of my life without playing MMOs.
As for 2009, I'm looking forward to Aion and Mortal Online (which I'm guessing will get pushed to 2010).
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.
Every time to try to quit mmos I end up buying the latest console ... its a hell of a lot cheaper just to stay subbed to an mmo. I have friends in debt from holidays they cant afford and going to the pub all the time yet I always have money at the end of the month and even manage to put some away - I put a hell of a lot of that down to mmos. A lot of my single guy friends are out juggling multiple girls at once and sound much more miserable than me.

Don't just spend the time watching television instead, which is what your average non-gamer would do. That's worse than playing computer games.
Good for you man!
My new year's resolution is not to try any of the crap F2P grind fests that will come out in 2009
