Funcoms failure to deliver promised features ,the lack of high level content and the blatant exploiting of certain game components makes this an easy decision. The good news is they have been addressing some of these
I went with TR (although I could easliy have voted AoN - Age-of-Nipples), for a RG game to close up shop completely within a year of release is pretty bad. I wonder if we are seeing the begining of a major thinning out of the MMO world due to the worsening global economy. We may see an awful lot of games shut down over the next year I suspect.
WAR could've used another couple of months in development. They wanted to be one of the fastest MMOs made, well, that's great, but they could've done so much more in those coupla months I think. However the ADD drama rollercoaster of post-launch is almost over and those who made their expectations too high are done whining (I hope.) The population will settle and no matter how much people want to overdramatize, WAR was not as bad as AoC at launch.
AoC had a good first 20 levels and the rest of the game was crap.
WAR had the same consistency of quality throughout the whole game at launch which was, at best for most people, mediocre.
Now I don't know about all the other poll choices cuz I don't care lol.
While EQ and EQII microtransactions are the devil. (if you don't believe me, review my posts :P) my vote went to HellGate London, for its cancellation.... i was excited to see something different in the fantasy landscape...... now i get to wait and see what SW:tOR will do -grin-
SW: tRO will have a cash shop aswell, no doubt, maybe not at the beggining but within a year after release

Imo, both AoC and WAR were equally dissappointing. Funcom flat-out scammed players, and EA/Mythic somehow punted on what made DAoC a great game (RvR). AoC gets the photo finish, and received my vote.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

Completely agree. I cant see how anyone in their right mind would want to fund the horrible launch which was AoC, imho. And I stopped playing DAoC a long time ago, of which WAR is nothing more than a re-skinning of. I enjoyed it then, but geez....I was hoping to upgrade my game-play experience, not have alot of the same.
Ah yes Warhammer the biggest dissapoitment of the year, wait doh!Q!!

Come on, everybody knows that for many years now, game revies have been paid to be high. And sometimes the same magazines obscure good games (like Deux, Savage, and others)
I voted WAR. It was overly hyped and it didn't met any of its hype. =/
I still some day ill get to see Mark Jacobs face to face so i can spit in his eye

Warhammer was pretty fun for the first couple of months. None of the reviewers could have seen how crappy the playerbase has become though. "Hey, lets run the same scenario over and over and over again. Oh, they are improving RvR, lets go attack some undefended keeps for loot bags and faction er I mean influence."
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I was so hyped up for WAR, I preordered it and waited and waited, then I quit after my first month because the population dropped on my server, couldnt get in Scenarios or ORVR, so I quit.
WOTLK for me. Just left me feeling so ... bored. Had (mostly) a good time with my WoW experience, but ever since Season 4 launched it started feeling like an endless treadmill. I hoped that Wrath would breathe new life into the game for me, but it just made it worse, and I found it hard to care about anything in the game. Just once I'd like to see an Xpac that focused 100% on adding new content and classes to the lower levels of a game, instead of always just adding to the level cap - Blizzard gave us a tiny glimpse of what could have been with the DK starter area. I think I'd rather scratch out my eyeballs than level a character from 1-80 in WoW again!
The biggest disappointment was that no games released in '08 looked good enough for me to try.
Replace the word GAMES with MMOs and I'll agree completely. I didn't seriously consider playing any of these MMOs. I did play a very short beta with TR and Hellgate last year. One was more of the same bland game play, while the other was buggy and broken.
From the side lines though, I'd have to say that WAR was the biggest disappointment. While I didn't expect it to be any thing new or ambitious, I did expect them to bring in and retain a big customer base. Apparently, I was too optimistic...

Well this is an MMO website, so by "games" I did mean "MMO's"
For me the most disappointement this year was TabulaRasa and WARHAMMER online....I did expect a lot more. Tabula Rasa is probably on top of the list, so much hype and high ratings for nothing.
TabulaRasa was doomed already after open beta/trial phase so far i could see and notice the reactions...didnt play AOC and iam happy that i didnt waste time and money on it.
And to the ones who want to judge a game by reviews...Tabula Rasa had the highest rating on this page, had very high ratings in game magazines, now look what is happening: the game will close cause it is just meh and not top like the reveiws descriped.
People should give a crap about biased game magazine ratings and should at least stop hype game on this page with wrong votes or assumption. Its a shame that TabulaRasa was the best rated game on this page......hope the same wont happen with obama lol.

Reviews of known gaming magazines who in turn are known to be biased and following the $$$ ... dohh
AoC was also reviewed with high scores. Look how that turned out!
For me both WAR and AoC were big dissapointments.
But especially WAR. Coming form the makers of DAoC it was a HUGE letdown to see what a turd and buggy crap oRvR in WAR has turned out to be.
oRvR is boring as hell, linear and just not working as intented. Especially in Tier4.
Yet again nice RvR ideas on paper, wich have not been tested in Beta and are now killing off the population on the Live servers.
Way to go Mythic!
Definately Age of Conan.
Hellgate London was not a MMORPG to me...but it was a big disappointment as well.
I am afraid there is no option for the Whole MMORPG genre as it stands today with most current released games have made this genre a disappointment.
AOC is the obvious choice

Games or MMOs? All the games in Orange Box and Fallout 3 have me feeling like a kid again.
