firstly a question if you would be so kind, Is the Noob from the Noob's review of the beta of DF a part of DF's dev team?
"Aventurine have lifted my NDA obligations to allow me to post screenshots and comments as a preview of the game. I've been playing in beta for the last couple of weeks. This NDA lift is limited exclusively to what is posted here and I cannot otherwise give additional information, discuss the game, etc. etc.
- Don't email me with questions, requests or comments - I can't answer (NDA, my mom saying that I shouldn't talk to strangers, etc.).
- I haven't followed the evolution of the game before beta, so don't expect any deep insight. The skinny goth dudes are called Alfar and I'm catching up on the rest.
- I've been a good friend of Claus and Tasos for many years and we've often played MMOs together in the past.
- They've hosted The Noob since 2005, which is great or I'd have to sell my furniture to pay for bandwidth. I've reciprocated the favour by asking them "wtf, when's beta starting?" no more than twice a week for the last nine years.
Finally if you click on any cropped image in the preview, it will take you to the original screenshot (but with names etc. covered). I tried to make some of the cropped images pretty by removing the crosshairs but I have left the screenshots untouched so you can see what I see when I play. "
So what it boils down to is a good longterm friend of Aventurine that owes them a big favour is doing a "review" for them and advertising her site (which they host). I'd say it looks very dodgy at best.

Not really anymore dodgey than formal mainstream magazine reviews. I'd probably trust her word more than them.
Btw, regarding PR/info. What was Eve's like before launch?
Well it was more than 5 years ago but they had Simon and Suchuster (spelling?) as publishers, boxes were in stores and I believe the purchase price and sub plan was known (though don't quote me on it!). The release date got pushed back, but even for over 5 years ago an indipendent company had more info out than Aventurine does today.
Back then I knew who the publisher was and it was going to be sold in boxes on shelves, the rest I can't be sure of because I didn't start playing MMOs until a bit later.
As for her not being dodgy? I would prefer Jon Wood to go down there and take a look for MMORPG. SGW doesn't even have a launch date and they allowed him into to test drive the Beta and take videos. Aventurine claim to have a finished and polished product, if he were asked to go try it out and make a video for this site it'd be a great idea. Instead they have a longtime friend that owes them a debt "review" the beta for them with only screen shots, telling me she's no less credible than Jon Wood is just insulting my intelligence.

3 weeks left and still no info, it's hard to seriously believe that this alledged piece of software is going to be on sale with servers up and running in three weeks! I challenge Tasos to hand over this information now!
The gauntlet has been thrown down, now it is time to see if that double talking knave has the nerve to pick it up!

hmm, a developer that dont hype thier game so close to launch. We are used to be covered in adds, videos and features (AoC, WAR, WoW), just something to get us to buy the game. Maybe something will happen in the nearest couple of weeks?
But what if there is no special info? The game just launches and everyone id happy about! Would that be so bad? We have all the info we need, we have played MMOs before. We can do it.
Yeah you'd think with 3 weeks to go there'd be alot more leaks and some more vids on youtube..... Also is there a box version supposedly or just download only?? ........ I'd be interested to see in three weeks how many people would buy this game sight unseen for 50 bucks off their website........ It sounds like alot of people are getting a vision in their heads of what this game will be like but no one really knows.....I remember when I was reading about Vanguard when it was in beta and pictured this great EQ like game and then I got into beta....What a letdown.....
I almost hink Darkfall is going to be the same way....People think its going to be like UO but with great graphics and everything will be just like old times but I just have a feeling theres something seriously wrong with this game......They are hiding way too much from the public and media and to release a game where no one knows much about it is usually not good.
I get the feeling we're gonna start 2009 with another disappointment. Either that or it's gonna "Vanguard: part deux", releasing 2 years to the day and holding back info I'm starting to get deja vous. My guess is they'll blame the riots in Greece for having to delay release!

Delays?
You started this thread claming that DFO was Vaporware, and now we are down to a mear delay?
***************************** I have nothing clever to say.
One month to launch and no information concerning open beta, price of game or subscription or methods of payment? No announcment concerning publishing wether it's a box or DD or both? I don't see any reputable reviewers from game mags test running this new exciting MMORPG or any attempt to get pre-orders, am I wrong? With the track record of Aventurine even the most rabid DF fanbois has to be getting a little bit nervous, and a tiny bit of doubt must be there. Being a "Vapourware troll" I'm sort of the opposite, 99.9% certain it's another BS pr stunt to keep hype going for a non-existant MMO so they can get more funding with 00.1% of doubt. If this isn't vaporware and it does get released next month then Darkfall must be like the stealth bomber of MMORPGs. Let's hope if it does launch next month it doesn't get shot down soon after But until release I'm still going to put my bets on Vapourware, until I play it, it doesn't exist!
Folks here on this forum alone have hyped the game as if it could cure cancer and end hunger. They're scared of disappointing this many people. How are you surprised they haven't posted info? Their PR department is quite possibly the worst in a pay mmo that we've seen in years. They haven't advertised outside of the "niche", haven't been open... or honest about the development trail and certainly haven't tried to gain the MMO communities trust with information, the way companies like Blizzard and Turbine did while making the last builds of their respective games.

When I said disappointed I meant it's vapourware, giving excuses for delays = it doesn't exist or will never release anyway.

You sir, are obviously not following the information freely available.
Check out the Italia MMORPG site. They had the chance to jump into the game and give their impressions. Oh, they also raffled off a beta key spot.
Early January, other sites will be able to log in and write their reviews and thoughts of Darkfall. I don't know if Jon Wood will get a chance to, but does it matter if it's from a 3rd party that is in no way tied to Aventurine. Cause apparently, anyone who has checked it out is a family member or a Developer in disguise..
Skepticism is fine. But to have the information available and not know it, then post your inane drivel is speaking volumes.
3 weeks until launch and there is NO new info or anything. This is not what a company should be doing if they're serious about releasing a product.
It wouldn't surprise me if this game is a scam and they end up milking a bad product any way they can to come up with some revenue.
I could see them conveniently not holding an open beta, and instead, still release the game so people can pay good money for a shitty game.
Or maybe they're just trying to trick us by doing this the non-traditional way that they want to catch people by surprise and maybe the game has some hope. It's all a mystery...

Yeah I guess I am just full of drivel, I was unaware that a few guys at an Italian website were well respect reviewers of MMORPGs. I'm sure these friends of Tasos have made many objective and highly regarded reviews of other MMORPGs in the past which we're all aware of. I postrate myself at your feet and beg for you to forgive my ignorance regarding Italia MMORPG, after having played MMORPGs for 5 years I should've known these highly respected and regarded journalists already.
As for your future predictions of objective reviews I again am ashamed of my own ignorance, I had no idea reviewers would be logging into DF early January and giving reviews. Please in future if you could show pity on me and give me links to these Italian journalists reviews I would be most gratefull.
I again apologize for forcing my inane ignorant drivel on one so enlightened as yourself and do grovel on my belly at your feet so that you may feel enough pity as to enlighten myself and other skeptics also,
Yours Sincerely,
Agricola.

the thing that scares me about this title is that there was no open beta... if it's released by jan 22... i'll be cynical and saying this but will it come out w/ bug free or w/ possible hardware compatibitiy issues (this was an issue that plagued Sacred 2 and could repeat itself w/ DF... well it's possible)

Seriously Agricola1, I found out about this site about a week before I joined up. I've only played MMO's/MUD's since 92. Should I be bashing this site because I didn't know about them? No.
Unless of course, you're saying MMORPG.com isn't a respected and regarded journalistic site..
It's not a prediction, it was stated. Once again, you didn't find the information that was available to you. It won't just be Italian reviewers either. But hey, if that's the only thing you can harp on about, no problem.
Grovel or not, it's nothing to me. If you require spoon feeding, it's no skin off my nose.
P.S. If you didn't write stupid shit, people couldn't call you out on it. Maybe this will help you in the future.
and if you read the translation of the "beta key giveaway" that the Italians did, they say that that beta key would be valid for the "Journalistic Beta" beginning early January (I even think they said the 4th)..
So comming the next few weeks we would probably be seeing more reviews.

A bunch of Itialian crap and beta keys being given out over there does not help us at all.
The facts are that there is very little infortmation available for a game that is supposed to be released in three weeks. You cannot argue that. It does make me a little nervous, but it's not like I'm going anywhere. I'l be here in three weeks and we can all talk about how much Adventurine sucks or how great they are for getting their product out this time.

More reviews in a few weeks? Well we know one week isn't enough time for journalists to really try the game so that cancels out the first seven days after the fourth. So the earliest review we will see is like the twelvth of January. Which gives you ten days until launch. Realistically any reviews we are going to see are going to be half assed and real close to the launch date most likely. It seems they planned this so that any bad news reported by the journalists will be overthrown by the launch date being within days of the review.

she already has tho... dont matter myf riend agrees with her and hes no friends of the devs

There has been some leaks lately, just very few though . . .
I get the feeling we're gonna start 2009 with another disappointment. Either that or it's gonna "Vanguard: part deux", releasing 2 years to the day and holding back info I'm starting to get deja vous. My guess is they'll blame the riots in Greece for having to delay release!

i think there just holding back info as to not dissappoint people. Always go into a game with low expectations. This way its hard not to like it.
Delays?
You started this thread claming that DFO was Vaporware, and now we are down to a mear delay?
*****************************
I have nothing clever to say.

Maybe this will help you in the future.
who said there will not be an open beta?
and if you read the translation of the "beta key giveaway" that the Italians did, they say that that beta key would be valid for the "Journalistic Beta" beginning early January (I even think they said the 4th)..
So comming the next few weeks we would probably be seeing more reviews.
*****************************
I have nothing clever to say.
