I've played everything. And here I am back at UO. I don't know how long this will last, but I'm getting bored with cookie cutter mmorpgs. At least everquest one had a virtual world feel to it, but it seems like mmorpgs base don that model have forgotten what the game is all about: a virtual world.

Unfortunately, the virtual world aspect of MMORPGs was left behind when they started being conformed into single player online games the masses could enjoy.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
I'd probably play UO if it didn't have a monthly fee like it does. Costs to much for its lackluster graphics.
No one plays UO for the graphics anyway, so I don't see how that's a factor in the decision to pay for it.
So it's ok to pay for a brainless, but pretty game? Graphics over gameplay

No but it is ok to pay for BOTH

Yes. Only problem is, with the current piles of shitfests that they call mmorpgs, it's a combination that doesn't exist.
I love the fact that I state my interest in Graphics and people think that means I have no interest in quality gameplay.
Both, for god's sake, thats what I pay for. Or WANT to pay for.
I get attached to my characters if they look good, and Ultima Online's characters don't offer me that. I, wish, it could. Thats all I'm saying.
Sorry, but you only get one post to state your position. Your first impression on us has already set in and we are unable and unwilling to change it. Therefore you are now branded as the person who will pay for a game with great graphics and crappy game play.
Kinda sad isn't? These forums can get out of hand sometimes. I blame it on the no child left behind system.
The game you play now that is called UO really isnt UO. UO Go smacked hard with UOR when they divided the lands. IN 2003 they released the final nail in the coffin that was AOS which turned what you called UO into a Diablo Clone.
If they add a classic server post it here and I will make a new account for that
Pretty much like me then. The other day I found myself clicking upon the UO Dec 2008 letter. I must be honest and say I've not been following what's been going on in UO for the past year. With no release of the SA expansion in 07 I thought EA's suits had demanded the beheading of UO and it was only a matter of time. Then this Dev letter comes out and made me more informed.
I had no idea they were working on a new client for SA based on KR technology, and allowing the 2D client access to the SA expansion content. I do like the sound of the SA client so far, taking the best from KR and 2D. It's great you'll be able to have the Legacy targeting system as an option in the SA client. KR current target system is somewhat decent, though the legacy targeting gives you your own timing, especially for casters! The automation of the KR targeting system does not.
You must admit the legacy UI with UoA once learnt is very efficient, effective and fun way to interact with the game world over how you interact with other MMO's. Though some would rather label it clumsy, simply because they're too use to playing theme park cookie cutter MMO's.
I do like the KR client in most areas. The new monster and animal skins look nice. Allowing some legacy art options in display helps getting the feel right. The Ui is not too bad for the most part, and it does allow UoA function, but the targeting system lets it down as I mentioned earlier in the post. I still enjoy legacy Ui with UoA over KR's UI
KR runs smooth for the most part, but it's still prone to unexpected pauses and the odd crash. Sometimes I can play for 1 hour and get a crash, other times I can play for 3 hours with no crashes. This is the main reason other than the KR targeting system that puts me off playing it full time. I will get and try the SA expansion to experience the new client and the next step in Uo's long history.
Yeh before Trammel scum (carebears) invaded Wow with their cult leader Evocare the game was damn good.
Ah the AoS...commonly reffered to as Age of Shit. Completely destroyed UO for me.
Krystar Daymen (Old School UO player baby)
AoS was very bad and it have taken them many years now to even out the playingfield for PvP. But it is not so bad anymore.
Hard caps and high ends items very easy obtainable. Made the game alot better. And with SA everyone can have the best.
Playing: League of Legends!
It still makes it an itembased game where you hunt the next best armor to improve.
WoW still does itemization lots better than UO and why play an old game where its foundation got slaughtered and adapted to follow diablo when I can play a game designed for its items.
UO has turned into a somewhat item based game, I'd have to agree with that, but i would much rather play Uo then anything on teh market right now. i have played damn near every mmo around and uo * even tho the graphics are low end * is still by far the best mmo around. Uo gives u the freedom, to choose your own path in teh game. Your not confined to a certain skill spec, Even tho UO is somewhat an item based game, you cannot and will not ever ever * i cant stress this enough* ever touch the pvp system it has. UO is skill based game play, not level and gear based like the rest of these poser. Wow and the rest of the wanna be MMO's could only dream of having what UO had when it was at its prime.
UO style game play will be maken a come back tho. Under the name Mortal Online, This i cannot wait for. To all you hardcore UO players/pvpers/pker if you havent heard about mortal online, then i would ask you to go check it out.

Im not downing any of you for having an opinion, Who can blame y'all? Y'all grew up with wow and that game play style. I can almost bet that 90% of y'all, that talk down on UO have not experienced teh true mmo game play experience it gives.
