I keep reading that siege perlious is non carebare. For someone that is an old school player (98-02ish shortly after growing plants was added.) can you explain? I have tried it since and cant stand some of the cahnges.

    Siege is still the crappy version of UO.  Whatever great update they put into the other shards, Siege also gets.  Only difference really is it doesn't have insurance and its fell only.

      Whether Siege is crap or not is a matter of opinion. The things it has in common with the early era of Uo are. There is no trammel facet just Fell, no item insurance ( They have their own system where you choose one item to act like a blessed item), thieving pre trammel for the most part, PK experience pre trammel for the most part and last but not least a more functional player economy.

     

      The increased difficulty of the shard consists of, No selling of items to vendors, cost of items from vendors are considerably higher than normal shards, your only allowed one character, skills raise slower and crafters tools wear out quicker. I'm sure I've missed other things out, but I'm sure others here can fill those in.

      One point though, skills raise as they do on normal shards up to 70, once a skill hits 70 it starts raising at a slower rate. The rules to these were recently changed in a publish. I think it was publish 55, 56 or 57. You can find the update information achieved on the Uo site, it goes something like this. At 70 you're only allowed 5 point gain every 24hrs, and only allowed to gain .1 ever 5 min. These time penalties increase at 80 and 90, they call it ROT, which means Rate over time if I remember correctly.
