Last October 23, a Niponese woman was placed under arrest for the virtual murder of her virtual husband. Yes, you read that correctly: virtual murder, virtual husband.
The Japanese woman or, more accurately, her avatar had married another player in the online role-playing game Maple Story. Apparently, the virtual couple had some real problems. Long story short, he divorced her, she got mad, she killed him. (His character, that is.)
I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning, she told investigators, according to CNN. That made me so angry.
The woman is being held on suspicion of hacking. Police think she used her pretend hubbys password to log in to his account and delete him. For that oh-so-heinous act, she could face five years in prison or a fine as high as $5,000. Officers took her a full 620 miles away from her home to detain her in the city where the man lives (also in Japan).

5 years in prison!?
$5,000 fine!?!
Holy balls, this has gotten waay out of hand
Just another example of how the in-game marriage system just creates more problems than solves them...
NO NO this is great I have not laughed this hard in awhile now. I can remember back to the UO days when a couple of guild members meet in person and then got marryed, They thought it was just so great that thay both play UO and have some much fun togather and living togather. Then one day the wife walked in on him with di#k in hand cyboring (pun) with another char, Then she found out it was her sister that lived 2 towns over. I will have to say I found that very funny to seeing how his wife was trying to get me to cybore with her almost every night.
It's called morals and I am glad to see that it is not just in the US they have been forgotten.

Thats hilarious, but outrageous at the same time. I think it was the fact that she went onto his account and deleted his character was what really got her in trouble. I guess its....intrusion....or something?
Hahahahaha i just quit playing maple but this is so funny Ive always thinks that the couple thing in maple was point less but now its a murder reason (donno if i can say this like that) anyways good mapling to all
It's because she is suspected of hacking into his account which, even here, is a felony. It could be similar to someone going through your mail and opening a letter. She hacked into his personal account and messed with information which belonged to him. It's like a woman going to jail for putting a rock through an ex's window.

According to the ToS, NONE of that information belongs to him. It is all property of Nexon.
thats f***king hilarious! <cant breathe! ...cant breathe! BAWWAHHHAHAHAHAHA!

This is a great story, thanks for sharing. Guess the Japanese take computer/account hacking quite serious.
