22nd last chance for you to?

zevenzeroszevenzeros Member UncommonPosts: 50

Just wondering if the 22nd is the last chance for anyone else with this game? if the 23rd comes and they make non stop excuses why it didnt come out anyone else just moving on? For me i have about 10 Real life friends ready to move over to the game that i recently got them excitied about but if it doesnt release  i pretty much give up and so will they. Also if it doesnt release i will not trust anything they say after this.

Also with a statment like:

" So why don't we announce a date already? It's because there's no way we'll miss a release date and we're not going to just set a date as a goal, and either postpone or be forced to release something unfinished. We resolve to stick with our release date because we know how people tend to plan around this as far as organization, time and hardware goes when they're looking to make a commitment to an MMORPG, especially a competitive one like Darkfall."

last chance for me here. Also link to the article http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/devjournals/darkfalljournals/3570-Darkfall-Dev-Journal-25-Philosophy

the quote is the last paragraph.

Ill still play because ive waited so long a couple more months wont make me give up on it. I just hope they didnt dig their own grave with that statement because i know there are others who see it the same way as you and id hate for it to release and be good and have a small population due to making promised they cannot fullfill.

This is not a flame i see your side aswell it would be frustrating.

yeah i wouldnt say anyone is dumb for playing if it gets delayed , its just for me i play with real life friends and thats where my real fun comes from and the window is open for them to play if it closes well then they well just move on. Also i see what you mean with the getting delayed  to be fixed makes sense to me , but with a satatment like i posted and many others like them saying the game is feature complete , and has been ready for some time now. But then they dont release any info at all this close to there release date ill feel lied to.

Three months before release the AoC devs said that AoC was feature complete.  When asked about crafting, the devs said that crafting had been "mechanically functional" for about year.  When AoC released, the crafting/gathering system in AoC was the biggiest disappointment I've ever seen in ANY AAA MMORPG and I've played most that have come out over the past 15 years.

And yes, Darkfall Online is Vaporware.  Even when it releases, it is still vaporware.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

    Oh, for heaven's sake.

Aventurine sets up an exact date less than two months from the announcement, and when asked whether you'll keep on believing them if they don't release on said exact date, you still dare to give the excuse -- jumping the gun even on the developers themselves -- that if they don't release it will be because the game wasn't ready and that the delay was justifiable in the interest of the game?

If Aventurine says the game is finished (or nearly so) and sets a very specific and close deadline -- "we will release in seven weeks" -- just to push it back, you will still trust them?  It's not some vague distant and elastic objective of which you often hear in that industry (e.g. by the end of the year), they've drawn a line in the sand -- January 22.  If they don't respect that, they can't be accounted for on anything else they've promised.

Then there's the secrecy surrounding the project.  It's not exactly an Indiana Jones film where secrecy is part of a publicity scheme (as with a major project).  Here we're talking about a game being made by a small studio and surrounded by shouts of "vaporware! vaporware!" for years.  Maybe Aventurine is trying to exploit this, but at the same time it has done nothing to dispel the accusations themselves; if anything the multiple delays and unkept promises (such as the Guild Beta which never happened) would tend to add credence to the viewpoint of the vaporware trolls.

That's all in the past now.  But with a release on the 22nd, Aventurine should have gotten the fanfare going to finally put to rest those vaporware concerns, a sweet revenge on all the naysayers.  But surprisingly enough, it did nothing of the sort.  It decided on a release date.  That's fine.  Aventurine doesn't have the budget for advertising, that's understandable -- yet it didn't even bother to make the release date known on their website's main page (yeah, it's so difficult to find a guy who knows anything about websites around a game studio).  They've not even released tentative system requirements, or publishing information -- we're talking here about key elements of a game release, not superficial fluff.  They're supposedly still having their closed beta with the release set in less than three weeks.  And what have they shown of the game? Practically nothing.  I am led to think that either it's a dud or that there is no working game.

All their promises taken together are unrealistic, and even if they did deliver all that they promised I don't think a game like that could work for long.  But we're not even discussing that here.  We're discussing the very existence of the game itself, and whether it will release on the 22nd.  And how on earth it's possible for some people to justify yet another missed deadline by Aventurine -- almost as if they were expecting it.

There are just too many mutually exclusive things going on with DF.

    1.  They said they would not give a release date unless they were absolutely sure they could meet it

    2.  There is no company EVER that could release a quality product without an extensive beta test.  So far, at best they have a few hundred friends playing a game with a lot of features turned off.  Even if they had all the features turned on, there simply are not enough people trying to 'break' those features, like needs to happen with a beta test.  From the beta glimpses we have been given, it is just mostly players casually playing the game and running around exploring.  That is NOT a real beta test.  There is also no indication from any beta tester that they are playing anything close to endgame.

    3.  Server stress... again, with only a few weeks to go, and nothing at all being announced about the start of a stress test.. there probably won't be one.  A MMORPG absolutely needs to have 5000 people on a server just to see where the leaks are at and what is causing the lag.  Without stressing the servers, even huge memory leaks will make it into the live game.

The problem is that #1 is not possible with #2 and #3.

January 22nd is either going to be a free launch (beta test) or it is going to be a huge scam if they try and make people pay.   I really hope that is the reason they aren't advertising, because Jan 22nd will just be the open beta launch (and free).

Also with the charging me on day 1 thing another lie they well break, they have stated many times that they well let you try it before you buy it. Which im sure they well be able to twist the wording on that some how.
