A simple question about MMo sub numbers...

How come companies have to provide publicly all their financial data to stockholders and the press else face criminal investigations, yet MMO companies won't share how many subscribers they have even if Hell is freezing over?

What's the big deal?

Are they afraid that if we find out our favorite game only has X amount that we'll suddenly want to jump ship?

Are they afraid that SHAREHOLDERS will be mad and want to hold them accountable?

Are they afraid Blizzard will mock them?  (As they should, no? lol)

Cmon game makers... show us some balls.

we promise not to laugh too loud Smed. (personal jab there, sorry)

Public companies do announce mmo subs

EA does, NCSoft does, Funcom does -- its not just Blizzard

SOE has the obscure thing with station pass and is more cryptic

Turbine is a private company and has no obligation to report subs publicaly

NCSoft is the most open with sub numbers. They provide exact sub numbers and how much revenue each game is generating every quarter.

SOE has the Station Pass now but even before that existed they would not release sub numbers.

Turbine is a private company now but even when they were with Microsoft they, like SOE, didnt publish sub numbers.

EA, in regards to Warhammer, used tricky wording to avoid sub numbers. Will have to wait until their quarterly report to see if this is a trend.

Blizzard is the company that releases sub numbers and tells everyone about it. Yeah, they have the most to brag about but it would be nice if other companies were as forthcoming.
