two questions

SaranthSaranth Member UncommonPosts: 269

1. Can any level play with any level or do you have to stay within 5 or so levels of your own?

2. What is the equivelant of a battlemage (Horizons). I dont want to be a pure tank, but I do want to be a fighter class.

    1. You can actually level too high to get back into some zones.  So while you can play with someone lower for a while, you'll eventually have to wait for the other person to catch up some.

    2. Sorry, i don't know this one.. haven't played long enough

I would think going up the Crusader tree to either Paladin or Shadowknight.

    2. If you want to fight and use magic too, the crusader class should suit you well. Shadowknights and Paladins both get plenty of offensive spells, with the Shadowknight being a bit more offensive.

    Hi,

Are you sure about that? That's the first I've ever heard of a policy like that. Is there a link or anything you could give me that has more information about it?

Don't really like the idea of locked areas in reverse. Just make the lower mob exp SO low that it wouldn't be actractive to hunt there...But don't lock the area out! That's insane...IMHO image

Basically what I was asking is if there are grouping restrictions.

From what I've read ...NO you can party with any lvl of player.

But...I never head about the reverse Zone Restrictions?

I think it's 5 levels.  If you group with someone too high for you it says 'a person has joined your group that is far above your level, you will recieve no xp or quest advance while this person is in the group'.  Something like that anyway.

There is no such thing as being too high for a zone.. don't know what that guy was talking about..

And for the lvl restriction.. yes.. I'm not sure what it is, but I know there is one(higher than 5 I think, though).

If any of you have played DAoC, which EQ class do you think is closest to a Champion? Hero? Druid?

    Thanks!

There is a level limit on grouping with a higher/lower level character. As far as I can tell it's based on the levels of the players. In other words, the difference will be greater at 30, than in the teens, where it is around 6-7 levels, give or take. It will tell you you'll get no xp, if the person is too high. Plus, say you're fighting level 15 mobs, and a level 20 joins the party. While you might be within the level range, the level 20's presence will make the level 15 mobs grey, and thus worth no xp, though they would count towards a quest. So there is both a hard, and soft cap on how high of a person you can group with.

And yes, there are level limits on some of the zones, like Fallen Gate, and Firemyst where you can't get in after a certain point, level 20ish in the two mentioned. Other zones, like Enchanted Lands, Everfrost, etc. have a lower end level limit in that you can't do the access quest for the zone until you reach a certain level.

Edit: Just to clarify, Fallen Gate, and Firemyst are dungeon type zones, which require you to complete a quest to enter. Regular dungeons can be entered at any level as far as I know.

unsure if a HUGE lvl difference is not allowed, but just today I was in a group of 5 all within 5 lvls, and we added a 6th, to assist them with a specific quest mob, and none of us original 5 got any exps for the encounter, due to the higher lvl'ed 6th character... ouch  image

This is what was said by a beta tester on the forums:

"at 50 you can play with a 35 at 35 you can play with a 19 at 19 you can play with a 10 and at 10 you can play with a 5"

Again this was just another tester, but he sounded pretty confident. :P

Champion: Probably a Paladin/Shadowknight...depending on if you want to be good/evil.

Hero: Guardian-except you cant shapechange into anything. But Hero's were heavy tanks and so is the Guardian. Berserker maybe...if you want the rage to be equivelent to the stag form?

Druid: uhmm....well, druid....they have them here. One is a fury...not sure on the others name.

BTW...Hybernia sucks...ALBS RULE!image LONG LIVE ALBION! (not that I play anymore)

Of course Albion rules. It's easy to rule when you're the dev teams pet side. And you have a huge disparity in numbers.

Anyway, the other Druid in EQ2 is the Warden.

Hey, you have no right to be insane here. I am the insane one!image  SEE!

But what you are saying is insane. The M in Mythic stands for Midgaard. Everyone knows that. Albion was not the pet realm by any means. Not to mention Hybernia and Midgaards classes were much better designed than albions. All of albions classes could only do 1 thing....they did it well, but 1 thing. Most of Hybernia and Midgaards classes did 2 to 3 things well. Thusly being equal to up to several albion classes.

Now this slowly started to change for albion in the later expansions, with reavers and such...

As for the number disparity, yeah...in the beginning the albs were more numerous. But Midgaard quickly caught up and surpassed Albion in numbers. Hybernia was way undermanned...until they gave Hybernia some SERIOUS luvin...then they too passed albion. Now, as for the PvE realms, albion had the best designed realm. Midgaard wasnt too bad...but Hybernia was a golf course. Anyways...

So leave the insanity to me please!

Oh, and yeah...fury and warden are the druid classes. Thanks Coldmeat.

Hib always lost out because everyone was to busy pretending to be elves, though the people that did rvr were pretty good. And you are right, Midgard did eventually become the new Alb. Though, Alb will always be the clueless zerg in my mind. Which is why I had to leave Alb. I just made a Reaver on Mordred.

Yeah, Alb has the best layout, though Midgard has more atmosphere. Hib just makes me sad.

And I've been crazy for about 30 years now. I imagine as I age, it will only get worse, if my grandmothers are any indication.

So lets hear it for finding a cure for Alzheimers.
