Thoughts 'bout mmog and SWG trial

Why do they rarely offer a trial period with SWG? I dont just want to go buy it and then hate it! I need to try before i actually buy something, mostly!

Main reson im looking at SWG is because its sci-fi. Not that many around these days, and the most enjoyable one were shutdown late septmenber that i played for almost 2 years!
Im in EVE now, but want something more entertaining than feeling like im at a job! Sure, EVE have a lot of good sides, but it is just so slow in my eyes! Still, i can live with it, because there are no swords and magic wands and orcs!

The thing that plague this genre is the overwhelming many games based on fantasy... medival, orcs, dwarfs, elves! Frankly, im so sick of it! Are devolepers afraid to try a new paths, and just go with the flow and make another game that someone else already has, but with new type of UI and graphics?

One game i look forward to, is Star Trek Online. Im fashinated by that universe, so it could be interesting how it turns out in the end!

I have tried matrix and eq2, but im not cheering! Im curious about WoW, but not been able to lay my hands on that, sadly! Have also tried a bunch of older games, but my interest for them aint got any bigger the more i played them!

As of now, im mainly waiting for the Shiva expansion for EVE that could make it more pleasurable. EVE are at least one of a kind! No clone of anything. And for that, im glad CCP exist!
My biggest wish however, are that EA get bought up by a smarter company that know how to do and manage games!

Unfortunately, you missed your chance on the SWG trial.  It was advertised on this site about a month or two ago, there was a 14 day free trial.  I don't know how long it will be till there is another one image

I wish I had gotten to do the trial. A friend of mine that lives down the hall from me (dorm) plays the game, so I wanted to try it out. I ended up buying the game (at least it was only $30) and playing it for less than a month, it just didn't hold my interest. I thought it was pretty fun for the first couple of weeks, but then I just got bored and stopped playing, it had a little to do with school. What sucked though was that I had gotten into the WoW beta at the same time I started my SWG account, so I let my roommate play WoW. At least I got the chance to play this last week, WoW is awesome, the quests are what I like about it the most, I didn't play much of galaxies but the mission system was just dumb in that game.

honestly SWG is a real bad idea if you want entertaining. The JTL fanboys will lay the smack down on me I'm sure but to be honest the game is a dud. The whole game is engineered to be a timesuck. The Space ship stuff you cannot do without doing something on the ground. You can only get so far on the newb ship they give you and then you have to buy one. NO way you make enough money running the dumb missions. And in the end. Its all truly pointless, there is very little end goal to the in space system. you'll spend more time on the ground raising money for good ships stuff then you will flying and believe me that's truly without point.

SWG doesn't offer a free trial because unless it was, say, 24 hours, then by that time even the average joe has realised how absolutely crap SWG is. Their definition of sticky content is allowing users to grind every profession, plus jedi, with very little else to do in the entire game.

SWG. I can't stop playing it. Wall to Wall people online. It's meant to be fun. Not for programing geeks or people who analize every God Damn thing.

    Welcome Back My Friends

GREAT another person who has never played the real game and is a beta hopper that played JTL for 10 mins -_- ok

    1) space ship "stuff" and ground "stuff" there is no freaking possible way that these two can not interact...because there all the same game...hmmmm...also no crap you have ot be a shipwright to build a ship and dont complain if it takes to long to get to master. its supposed to be hard and take time to be good.

    2) no freaking duh you can only get os far on hte "newb" ship THATS WHY ITS CALLED THE NOOB SHIP. there are plenty of people that i know that make ships and give them away for free to new pilots.

    3) YES there are ways to make money....its called do something instead of running a tumbling macro or just beggan anyone with a master or jedi tag -_-

    4) ARE YOU RETARDED -_- OMFG you yet again mention the fact htat you must do something on the groud to do stuff good in the air... ITS THE POINT...its not like you gonna get crpa handed to you. JTL is only an EXPANSION...MOST OF THE GAME IS ON THE GROUND...

    5) go back to playing runescape

Ive said it before and ill keep on saying it:

SWG is no worse than ANY mmo on the market. As a matter of fact id say over a year later SWG is one of the best on the market.

Ive played a LOT of mmo's and SWG is the front runner.

The trick of having fun in ANY mmo is not to notice the "grind"because your having fun that is what SWG is for me.

If all you want is to level grind you wont be playing this for very long.To me a persistent world is more of becoming part of a community than it is being "uber".

On the other hand if you like to roleplay and take your time, socialize and have a longterm vision and can stick with it then your gonna have a blast.

EvEonline and SWG have the most unique vision of any mmo ive played in a longtime both are good games.

Scifi games that are good are far and few between but they are coming along more and more.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

It is still a brand new MMORPG. It is barely more than 1 year old. It has had 1 free trial. (Technically 2, if one had started to play it from day one, then stopped playing for 6 months. But then again, any vet player would have purchased the game.)

The 1 official free trial it DID have ran for quite a long time. Long enough for anyone to know about it and check it out without buying the game.

Main reson im looking at SWG is because its sci-fi. Not that many around these days, and the most enjoyable one were shutdown late septmenber that i played for almost 2 years!

There are three well known successful Sci-Fi themed MMORPGs:

     - Anarchy Online

     - Eve Online

     - Star Wars Galaxies

There are more lesser known but still successful Sci-Fi themed MMORPGs:

     - Starport

     - TDZK

     - Edge of Chaos

     - Jumpgate

The only one that got shut down was Earth and Beyond. It is your opinion that it was the most enjoyable one. But according to the market, it was not the most enjoyable one or else it would not have been shut down. image

Im in EVE now, but want something more entertaining than feeling like im at a job! Sure, EVE have a lot of good sides, but it is just so slow in my eyes! Still, i can live with it, because there are no swords and magic wands and orcs!

EvE is definatly a very new, very unique game. A game that is not a clone of every other game out there. This is one of the major things that make it such a nice game. No game can please everyone. But EvE is definatly worth a try - just to experience something vastly different from 80% of all the other MMORPG games out.

The thing that plague this genre is the overwhelming many games based on fantasy... medival, orcs, dwarfs, elves! Frankly, im so sick of it! Are devolepers afraid to try a new paths, and just go with the flow and make another game that someone else already has, but with new type of UI and graphics?

Some of the problem is with the game developers. But the majority of the problem is with the moneymen  aka the Suits and Ties. They make the calls. Just like in the music, TV, clothing, and movie, industries... they would rather make clones of successful games, than try something new. J.R.R Tolkien first popularized the sword and sorcery story for our modern worldwide audiance.

(Technically, there is no difference between Sword & Sorcery .... and Sci-Fi. To quote two famous guys: "Science Fact has a looong way to go before catching up to 'Science fiction' " ......... "Magic is just a description for higher technology at work that is beyond our comprehension" [to paraphrase Issac Assimov]. Add the fact that 3 new planets have been discovered (or re-discovered aka Sedna to our current scientists in 2004 = Nibiru to the ancient empires 3,000 to 6,000 to 100 million years ago) in our solar system. [Check out the current issue of Discover Magazine - November 2004. Also NY Times March 16, 2004 front page.] In ancient times, in every empire, in every book - ......including in the Bible aka how did those pesky Nephilim survive the flood? LOL! They reappear thousands of years later after Noah in Numbers 13:28-33 image ...... - sword & sorcery is the same as what we now call "science fiction" but was proven fact back then... long forgotten by modern man.)

The reason I mention all this is... if a MMORPG developer wanted to make the ultimate MMORPG, they would blend Sword & Sorcery WITH what we today call "science fiction"... since it is a fact this is exactly how things once were thousands, to millions, of years ago on our world Earth, and in our solar system.  Our current ideas of Sword & Sorcery is supposivly suppose to come from actual factual happenings. Or current ideas of science ficition is supposivly suppose to come from things that do not exist (space ships, space travel, the idea of there being other beings other than Humans aka Earthers, etc...etc...). BUT if both existed together in Earth history, then... no need to translate it into seperate genres in computer games and MMORPGs... since they are not seperate. image

But alas, we are stuck with a MMORPG industry that insists on having two seperate types of MMORPGs - "Sword & Sorcery themed" ...... and "Sci-Fi themed". Since the modern world is clueless about world history, and has no desire to look it up and study it.... we are left with Tolkien's recent popularizing worldwide of just Sword & Sorcery. Thus the first computer RPGs were based in Sword and sorcery worlds. (Ultima 0 - Ultima 9, Bard's Tale 1 - 4, Phantasie series, Temple of Asphi, etc... etc...). Then the first MMORPGs followed the same line. (The Realm, Ultima Online, EverQuest, and on and on.)

One game i look forward to, is Star Trek Online. Im fashinated by that universe, so it could be interesting how it turns out in the end!

It will be 2+ years before STO even reaches Beta. Don't hold your breath. image

It sounds like you desperatly need to try Anarchy Online. It is still FREEEEE to download and try out. What are you waiting for? image

    http://anarchyonline.com/

(click on "downloads" on the left side of the page at the official AO site.)

    -----------

Anarchy Online is still the most revolutionary MMORPG out. It mixes "magic" with "sci-fi". It is not an either or type of MMORPG. (either Sword & Sorcery... or... sci-fi.)

Woah, that was a really long post yo made there explororor.
You lost me somewhere arond the bible parts! ::::33:: Was a nice read all in all!

I do have AO in my CD collection, bought it some years ago on a sale just because it was so cheap!
At the time, i didn't like it at all, then when EnB got its sentance i started to look out for new game(s) to play!
A friend of mine made me try AO again with him, but it ended up we both quitting it. Can i say the "magic" was not there?! ::::39::

This is really hard, to find a new game that i can actually enjoy the way EnB did to me. And then they shut it down! I was happy where i was!

Yep, Star Trek wont be with us for a long time, but i wil continue to track it and see how it develop!

I probably stay with EVE for some time, but i still want that damn trial on SWG! :)
