I believe most people here don't play AoC and don't even want to play AoC. They just come here for the drama and because they want to see Funcom fail. Seeing dishonest companies like Funcom go bankrupt makes people feel good inside. It's crazy but that's life.
Its not a best game ever list. It just says a lot of people bought Age of Conan this year. And you know what, they did. And guess what else, they all quit.

Lol, did you even read this thread? If this is what you consider "good news" then you are getting desperate.
We all know AoC sold many copies at launch so of course when there's a list of games sold in 2008, AoC will make that list.
But we have to understand that about 85-90% of these people who bought AoC, also QUIT after first couple of months.
List like this mean absolutely nothing. No good news here, just old news and bad news.

Im sure Amazon supplies a decent service for those people whom don't live near a video game store.
I know some places near me where it costs twice as much as what Amazon is selling the game for in Petrol just to get there and back they are that far away.
All I know is that my main server has twice the population these days than it had one month ago. I see more and more people coming back every day. It is no secret AoC sold a heck of a lot of boxes in 2008, and that the game is making progress in strides forward. This is being noticed.

The 1.2M number was 'sold to retailers'. it wasn't sold through to customers. I think the last customer number was 750k or 800k.
I do think if they do server mergers and then offer a free month to returning customers they will get a lot of people to come back for the free month, and many would stay. The biggest reason is warhammer. When players left in July, they had warhammer to look forward to. Warhammer is flopping, and in my opinion, on populated servers (why mergers must come first).. aoc will be entertaining for ex-warhammer players.
There really is nothing 'interesting' being launched in 2009. If Darkfall wasn't vaporware, it could probably compete with AOC/War... but it's supposed to be launching in 2 weeks and still doesn't have any type of real beta going on... ie.. vaporware.

Not that sub numbers are a big deal, but you state it like it's common knowledge, and your numbers are much higher than the majority of estimates. Most people seem to think it's between 50K and 150K.
The gamestop in my area has had the same 4 copies of AoC sitting on the shelves for months.....and they are still 39.99....... Its hard to say how many subs they have but I jsut cant believe anything that Funcom says....

Interest, good or bad, is still interest in a game.
Spore kicked alot of game's asses, it was extremely popular and generated a HUGE amount of hype. I have no idea why you think it's a major defeat to AoC that they made less sales. Hell, you could have at least used one of EA's other more evidently shitty money-sink products, such as The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff Pack!!, or Mirror's Edge!!, or, hell, even Need for Speed: Undercover!! would have had a bigger impact on what you were trying to get at. But seriously, Spore? They have sold well over millions of copies.
If AoC sold over a million copies, it would have been overexceedingly impressive. But, before you beat me to it, the game would have been even more of a disappointment to what all the players actually recieved.
