EverQuest: New Server and Server Merges

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

SOE has announced that they will be merging EverQuest's "The Combine" and "Druzzil Ro (Xev)" servers this January, and in March they will be adding a new server of a type to be determined by player vote.

On January 21, 2009, EQ will be consolidating "The Combine" server and "Druzzil Ro (Xev)" server into one server to be titled "Druzzil Ro (Xev, Combine)." The merge will begin at 3 a.m. PST and will last approximately five hours.

In addition, in conjunction with the upcoming EQ 10th Anniversary celebration, SOE is expecting to add a new EQ server in March 2009 and players will be able to vote on a new server type. To provide your input on the type of server you'd like, you can visit EQplayers.com later in January to vote in a poll.

We hope that these changes will provide players with an even more enjoyable EQ experience.

It's time they did this to EQ2. The Station Cash crap chased a lot of players away and some of the servers are like ghost towns...

"and players will be able to vote on a new server type. "

How long will it be until someone says "but it's the people who don't play that should tell them what server to make"?

I'm hoping for another progression server.  That was kick ass fun, the first time around.  It pulled me back for almost a full year!

I won't play SOE games anymore. The Station Cash RMT on live servers was the last straw. Actually it was teh being lied to about them that was the last straw. Entire guilds left EQ2 and went to WoW or LOTRO. SOE doesn't want you to know how many people left over it, but from what I have read and heard it was a significant number in an already dwindling population. it doesn't matter to me what kind of server EQ makes. My guess is it will be an exchange server, regardless of what teh players want. Smed has become a money whore...

For all the talk about people abandoning EQ2, everytime I log into Guk (which is considered one of the medium pop servers), I always see a ton of people running around. It doesn't matter if I log in at 2 in the afternoon or 4 in the morning. For a ghost town, it sure seems active to me /shrug.

Pre-PoP server and I'd come back permanently.

    Progression would be great.

I still maintain that this game does not get the love and recognition it deserves for both longevity and innovation and I like the fact that SOE gives players a choice on server type.

I may even come back although that would cut into my EQ2 and Eve time.

    I agree, Neopsych.

Of all the MMO games I've played (and I've played tons), Everquest tops the list with respect to the number of game minutes I've spent playing it, and the nostalgia I feel when thinking back on those play times.

I loved my early days on the Rallos Zek server - harshest of the PVP games.  I enjoyed the faction PVP when Sullon Zek came out.  Then I dropped RPG, and went blue.  Building a guild from the ground up, pushing through the high end raid content was fun -- getting a chance to take all those lessons I had learned and do it "right" on the Progression Server was even more fun.

When I think back of all the really fun times I've had in MMO's, there are a few events from Star Wars Galaxies, a few from Eve Online, hardly any from the other games I've played (AC, CoH, EQ2, GW, Shadowbane, WoW, etc.).  But the game that has the most memories and good times ... undeniably EQ.

asking the players what kinda server they want.... unless they exclude everyone WITHOUT a subscription it will no doubt be CLASSIC pre-Shadows of Luclin -- thats what i am voting... i used to play before any expansions were up... it was a blast... but ive hate it since SoL - my choice... my opinion.

It's now February and there's no poll?

I think that's the in-game-survey you can take after signing in or go thru EQ players. I haven't taken it yet so's I'm not sure, LOL.
