The police may soon have more power to use hacking techniques to spy on criminals, which has led to many concerned about what they view as breaches of privacy.

According to reports, the Home Office is believed to have adopted plans to allow UK police forces to hack into personal computers remotely and without a warrant.
The hacking is known as “remote searching” and will allow law enforcement officers to hack into hard drives many miles away, examining the PCs of unsuspecting users.

They should require a warrent to do this...bleh
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Too bad the UK really has no kind of constitution for human rights, it is all based off of Parliamentary precedent. They do have a "Bill of Rights," but it really is only a collection of past legislation, and this is what it generally says about the subject:
"2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right [privacy] except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others."
Ouch.

Here's the problem I'd have if I lived in the UK:
Lets assume I did nothing wrong but for whatever reason they decide they want to have a look at my hard drive. And since the investigators or police are people they have their faults. Lets assume I have naked photos of my girlfriend on there and it's for my private viewing with her blessings. Now I get on the next day and find those photos floating around the net and now I'm in a heap of trouble because people got into my persona stuff and decided to plaster it all over the web.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Just thought I would mention that atleast you would be well off afterwards if this did happen. While not making things rite you would have a few mill in pocket. Well, I assume that you would. Idon't know how that would work in the UK.
In the U.S. most things as clear cut as this are settled outside of court it seems.
1. Naked pics.
2. ???
3. Profit.
O_o o_O
Wonder if Avast is coperating with the police.
this is a great idea, no-one who works on the financial markets ever uses a computer at home, neither does any CEOs or Board members of companies about to list on the market.
Basically, joining the police force now allows you to get all the trading details to make a mint!
good thing i dont live in the UK.. I steal music.... XD

I agree this kind of thing is ridiculous
I don't want anyone watching me on the computer, anymore than I want them listening to my conversations on the phone.
