While you're busy meme-ing, you might as well throw the word "true" in there.
All seriousness aside, I think the lack of any kind of region chat is a bad thing. I hated it in Warhammer. I guess those in pre-made guilds will be fine, right off the bat. While everyone else will be wondering how they're even supposed to find a guild to join.
A mmorpg without a global chat, plain simply sucks in my experience. I thought it would be nice without one for a change but after playing Warhammer online (untill they added one) all I can say is OUCH. Cus it hurt so much.
You could not read peoples funny discussions while out in the wild alone... you could not ask questions quickly or just chit-chat with the rest. It felt like you were locked in a dark room with no door to be found anywhere.

Read through these forums. Do you really want to hear what these guys have to say while you're playing DF?
global chat, means anywhere in the game, right?
let's take wow for example... if you're in the same guild or on the same team, then you have a global chat and can communicate to anyone anywhere in the game.
that's it. IF you're in a CITY, the city has certain channels linked, right?
then, and i could be wrong, aren't there possibly like recruitment chat or something that you can opt in/out of, that you might could see globally?
same thing that darkfall is going to have.
so um, what is the big deal/drama about their announcement? other than people who have lessthanstellarreadingcomprehension going "look at me look at meeeeeeee"?
seriously, most of the stuff you read on the darkfall forum (pro and con), seem like they could be eliminated with a few boots to the head.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Only game that has successfully pulled off a large area chat is ffxi, but their grouping flag system and window is excellent.
There really isn't any good excuse for not putting a regional or global chat system in an mmo unless you plan to have a good grouping mechanism in game.
There really is not a legit reason for not having global chat. It's just one less feature, maybe they have a reason for leaving it out? We'll just have to wait and see.
With most of the people on these forums and on the O-Boards really I wouldnt want to hear about 99% of them mostly due to most of them being asshats , funny thing is I want to play this game also, its a good call they decided not to have a global chat dont have to bother seeing leet speak in my chat box and moronic convos about Chuck Norris and other BS I dont care about..
No global chat is good for a pure PVP game. It is however bad for building a game community. But perhaps there is no such thing as a good game community anymore.
Funny that NO GLOBAL chat built the SWG community, and that it actually was one of the reasons almost all SWG players(Pre-NGE) says SWG was the best community game.

Ya, you may be right.
But EQ had global chat and most ex EQ players will say that EQ was the best community game.

Maybe good communities depend on the quality of the people, and have nothing whatsoever to do with global chat. Perhaps both SWG and EQ had the types of players condusive to good communities.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Actually forget everything i said. EQ did not have totally open global chat. It had /tell, /shout, /say and /whisper as well as guild chat.
How this will translate to a game already in possession of a toxic community, we have yet to see.
None of these forums show what the community of darkfall will be. Most people on here probably wont even play the game, they just float from one forum to another spouting hate or love.
I have a feeling that the community of Darkfall probably wont be very good though. The PVP community that the old UO players remember is not the same PVP community that is around now. Just pop onto a WoW PVP server and you will see that.

Oh boy you are dead wrong on this one.
What built the great community in SWG was actually that the game REQUIRED you to rely on others. You NEEDED other people close to you to succeed. You had to establish contacts for better prices or getting what you wanted, even the most simple things like weapons and armor. Then even buffs, food, slicing weapons or architects to sell you houses to your town.
SWG featured awesome Roleplaying capabilities due to this as you constantly had to engage with others. If you ever played a non-combat class you know what I mean. I was a ranger/pistoleer. I constantly traveled the wild in search for better hides/meat/bones. While I at the same time built up my network of contacts with both sellers/buyers. Also smooth talking my way to better sale prices and better deals. It was like nothing else out there...

Really, this troll is so excellent, that it deserves me getting more one post in my under 10 post count.

But the same goes for many other MMOs.
Haha nice a good troll post is refreshing.
My blog:
Youe ch00bsause trolls must be all bored, lol someone here got like 1200+ post!!! hahahahah! Can we say, ""
You think the aoc community is bad? Darkfall will set a new precedent for bad. I wouldn't want to hear or see what anyone would say.
Darkfall will be a gankers paradise. Why would you not expect chat to reflect that kind of attitude?

How did FFXI's LFG/grouping system work?

Yep, people made the same argument on the Warhammer forums too.
And look how well that turned out...
