Tough to answer this one accurately.

I was torn between No, No way, and 100% No, so i went with middle of the road, no way.

At least the question is 'will it release on time' instead of will it release... EVER?

    Oh yee of little faith!

Check out Tasos's talking about Aventurines "philosophy" on announcing release dates:

    http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/devjournals/darkfalljournals/3570-Darkfall-Dev-Journal-25-Philosophy

"It's because there's no way we'll miss a release date and we're not going to just set a date as a goal, and either postpone or be forced to release something unfinished. We resolve to stick with our release date because we know how people tend to plan around this as far as organization, time and hardware goes when they're looking to make a commitment to an MMORPG, especially a competitive one like Darkfall."

Hmm interesting how about this quote on the website of the developer from 2001:

"By combining groundbreaking technology and superior game design,

Razorwax will create amazingly addictive online games.

Our first MMORPG Darkfall is scheduled for release Q1 2003.

Razorwax aims at being one of the leading producers of online games,

with 3 online AAA quality games released by 2005."

Is this the same Darkfall that was started in Norway and has over the years listed numerous release dates and never met one? I bet yes since the link to Razorwax came from the original Darkfall Online website

That doesn't seem quite fair, considering the company swap.  As far as Aventurine is concerned there has only been one release date, and they haven't missed it yet.

Beta dates on the other hand. . .

I suppose only time will tell for sure.

    I voted:

"Theres no saying otherwise so yes".

but as of this post, biggest percent of vote is 100% no. Wow, that's a lot of negativity for a game on an MMORPG forum.

Fanbois, haters, trolls, etc., etc., yea I've heard it all. But when you get those kinds of results on a poll, as a dev team you're doing something wrong.

    this looks good

Based on the above, it's conceivable that we may be further along in development than several games in beta, or with announced release dates. So why don't we announce a date already? It's because there's no way we'll miss a release date and we're not going to just set a date as a goal, and either postpone or be forced to release something unfinished. We resolve to stick with our release date because we know how people tend to plan around this as far as organization, time and hardware goes when they're looking to make a commitment to an MMORPG, especially a competitive one like Darkfall.

    there might be hope afterall

Last part isn't really true. Adevnturine never really did anything wrong, thery're just doing things in a different manor to what most newer MMO players are accustomed to. We've all seen the posts "NO PRE-ORDERS = VAPORWARE" and other such nonsense; we can blame this kind of attitude to the huge ammount of hype and advertising that accompanies most MMO launches of recent times.

It hardly has to be pointed out that barely a single MMO or expansion that has been delivered alongside a huge advertising campaign has been able to deliver to the expected standard. We've seen unfinished games, games lacking content and souless carbon copies. In light of this I believe that the under-hype that Darkfall has had from Adventurine can only be a good thing. Other than that, they have already said that they do not expect players to buy a game that they have not tried.

It looks like their marketing strategy is depending on the player liking the game, which itself depends on the game being of a high quality. The only question now is whether Adevnturine can deliver the goods. Something that we should hopefully find out come January 22nd.

Well any type of info as it gets closer to the 22nd would put a lot of people's doubts to rest , like dropping the NDA they have been hiding behind for so long now, and some stuff that people need to know like sub model?, billing options perhaps?, computer specs?, or is this hiding behind the NDA and must be kept hush hush till the 22nd?

That doesn't make sense... considering the history of this project and the fact that it hasn't been released yet.

It's more like saying...  will you be born exactly when the doctor expects you to be born?... which is pretty unlikely and more in line with the history of Darkfall..

Lots of people don't think before they speak.. you won't be the first or the last =P

Nice comparison DAS.  I applaud you

But, unless they really know what they are doing, and have their plans already in place - they have left it too late.
And 100% Digital has the potential to be a nightmare when everyone tries to download it at once...

Well for starters. If they are smart they made a deal with Fileplanet or something to let people download the game.

It's pretty much suicide if they gonna host the Digital Download sites themselves, seeing the hype and number of people willing to download the game.

    Cheers

That's because they suck at PR and Info management. Not to mention that their own site sucks and never gets updated. They still haven't updated their site with the release date lol.

So most people thinks it will not be released on 22. I voted no, (Cose I really doubt it will be released, anyway I prefer to just wait and see) but I was expecting the most votes going the Yes way.

    1) different company, pre-2003 darkfall was a different game, with a different scope.

    2) they have never officially announced a release date, this is the first one, therefore, they have never missed a release date yet.

After the yesterdays interview with Tasos, I can't see any way it wouldn't release on the 22th day. Since I highly doubt Tasos would lie to the Greece media 2 weeks before the supposed release date that It will launch on 22th day.
