Open Beta in 1 week!
this is what tasos said in the open coffee thing from all sources. open beta 15th, one week later release on 22nd.
we will see how true to his word tasos is, exciting stuff all the same!
FYI client size is rumoured 18.4 gigs and distribution apparently by torrent, so could be a while to dl
monthly cost 11-13 euros.

My main concern is the DL if its indeed 15+ on some slow torrent omg maybe many wont even play on day1:P

In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I voted yes but with the very short window for OB they really need to get that client posted as soon as possable. BT can be slow as hell with all the leechers sometimes.

Torrent? When you can put the client up 100% free on places like gamedaily and Fileplanet and Fileshack and GamersHell and who knows where else.

would like to try this one. been in development waaaaaaaay too long.
Download the game and have it complete on the 20th then have it need patches and release on the 22nd?

That's what you do when you buy a game through Direct2download. You download the entire thing. Or in parts.
Torrents are junk. I'll gurantee you 100% that you would not be getting anymore than like 100-300 kb/sec downloading the Darkfall client through a torrent.
But on places like FP or Gamedaily you'd be getting well over 800kb/sec
I love the way that, despite the hate, trolls, and sit-on-the-fence camoflaged cynics, this game just ignores the world, stays true to it's plan, and does what it wants.
The main reason people hate this game is because they are just spoilt children and Aventurine refuse to spoon feed them, so they have thrown tantrums and fits over it because it dosent fulfill their expectations of what SHOULD happen in the mmo dev/ launch process. Tragic really.
Personally, I am still waiting for all the 'vaporz lolz' crowd to come and apologise for being wrong, but like all coward posters they seemed to evaporate when proven wrong. Now all this game has to do is deliver a solid feature rich launch and I will be asking the same off the rest of the DF hatebois.
I doubt I will get it though... they will prolly just take an extended leave from these boards until they think people have forgotton and then slink back to start trolling another random game just for the fight of it.

If DF releases on the 22nd with "a solid feature rich launch" I'll apologise for doubting the words of Tasos. if on the other hand it launches with more features cut, (as they seem to alude to) buggy / laggy etc. Will you apologise or will you just take a extended leave from these boards untill people have forgotten your claims of Darkfall being totally feature complete, greatest game ever. etc etc?
You guys download it then post if it lives up to it's hype, or sucks.

A month without any news...Now this. I hope all goes well and this game releases feature-complete.
Even with a torrent, a 20 gig download (if seeded enough) will take only two days, or so. FYI, I'm on a 90KB/S line.
I don't particularly care for the download method... But, it is a beta and will allow me to play a game I've waited for, for so long. Well done Aventurine, you made it this far, don't screw it up now.

Nah don't appologize for that... people have to right to post if they are doubters, supporters, haters, whatever ... it's all good in the end... makes for an entertaining day

Torrent only sucks if you don't understand it. It really isn't a good protocol for the average computer user that likes to click stuff and have it work. It was wonderful back when only geeks used it. lol
Hosting it on one of the dedicated download sites would be a much better option in this case, and I think the most suitable one for Darkfall would be Rapidshare
Blizzard uses bittorent in their patching system and those are quite big sometime, less than 1 gig normally though. I don't if it's the same for downloading the client. Whatever it probably has a very fat pipe feeding it.

What is the size of the file. some say 18 GB's, but is that the total HDD space you need to DL it or the overall size of the client when unpacking is done ?

Blizzard also has their free trial and all patches up on Fileplanet for people who don't want to hassle with torrents. Why not just make that an option for DF players as well? Seems like an obvious thing to do, IMO.
