How many people are enjoying the game they have waited like 3/4/5/6 years in development, people who spend large chunks of time at forums dedicated towards that ONE game you are looking forward to.
And in the end how many people who follow some games that intense will remain with that game and actually enjoy that one game?
Cause to me it seems that the more time people spend on games that are still in development, the bigger their disappointment CAN be when that one game will be released.
Or am I wrong and are most people who spend years following a game always end up with a game they greatly enjoy?

The only game I've ever followed for 3+ years is TCoS, and I was terribly disappointed with it.
I've been hyping D3, and I kow it's going to be good though.
I've followed Aion for a long time and I'm completely disappointed with it.
It's beting hacked and botted like a theme park.
I think there may be some truth to that....Most of the games that I played for any length of time were ones I knew little or nothing about......One of the downfalls of a site like this is that you see too many games overhyped that arent even released yet.......AoC was going to be the greatest ever....then Warhammer....Then TCoS....Then Aion....then Darkfall....it just never ends.......
I have never and will never 'follow' a game for years on end. Until a game is at least an Alpha product it is only a nice idea.
I doubt people do it more than once. I followed ShadoBane and thought it would be awesome. Then I got in the beta and found out it was a buggy piece of crap. What a disappointment.
Now I just wait for the reviews before getting excited.
However, I can tell you right now, I'm going to try The Old Republic no matter what. It might be crappy, but i'm going to try it and see for myself.
You are 200% correct!
I can already see failure in Aion, The Agency, and Darkfall. But I can see success with Star Wars Old Republic and DC Universe online...just because the license sells.
As seen with LOTRO and WAR, the Lord of the Rings and Warhammer license sells. Even though many users here (WoW fanboys and WoW-Clone paranoid users) won't agree, statistics and money has shown that both has had two of the most successful MMO launches to date.

I really expected more from WAR. But I would have stoped playing 2 weeks after release even if i didn't.
I did get disapointed, because after all, the game was hyped by its own game designer. But that doesn't change that the game painfully sucks.
I followed lotro for a while and was very disapointed, its the best IP but probably one of the most boring games i've played. I followed aoc for a long while and while It didn't live up to my hype and wasn't finished I still had many hours of enjoyment in this game by making the most of it and having a good guild, but yes still disapointed.
now I kind of following darkfall, earthrise, mortal online and the old republic. but yeah I expect to be disapointed but at least this time I'm putting my eggs in more baskets. maybe one of them will be decent.
but yeah I agree following a game generally just makes it more disapointing because developers will always put their game in the best light they can. I'm a skeptist now, GJ game developers.
but I think enjoyment in MMOs is quite proportional to who you play with, I enjoyed runescape quite alot only because of playing with real life friends and because it was my first mmo.
