I don't know if you think all the servers are pvp. They have pve servers as well. I don't know if you think it is like L2 or something with no pve servers. Far as I know L2 does not have pve servers.

    Hopefully that wasn't more confusing.

What is the difference from a pvp and pve server in this game?

  • finnishguyfinnishguy Member Posts: 90

Yes, it's open world pvp but AoC is mainly a pve game so if you don't like pve and grinding, WAR might be better for you.

Yea, WAR pvp is far from perfect. I tried it for a month and quit because it was not what I'm looking for.

But I still believe WAR pvp is better than AoC pvp. In WAR the game is designed around pvp whereas AoC is a pve game with a little pvp added later (pvp patch).

Anyone who calls himself a hardcore pvp player, cannot say AoC has good pvp. Well maybe thye can if they haven't played anything else than WoW and have very low standards.

That seems exactly what you are doing stating war as a "better pvp game"; it's wow with autofacing attacks... simplier than wow, same old mechanichs... is this the game with good pvp?? Where is the so called "skill"??

    You must be kidding ?

I have yet to see game with more PvP and the only thing lacking is more meaning then just PvP XP. ( well sieging is nice but not enough )

Well I can tell you that you will kill and be killed while you are leveling more often then in any other game.

Whats best is that you dont have ANY limitation like in RvR game aka xx guy annoys you, kills your mobs or steal your loot and you need to suck it up as there is nothing you can do as hes on same side you are.

But beware AoC is lacking lots and lots of features but it shines when it comes to PvP and combat mechanic.

You can be level 68 run around naked with only your weapon and if you are skilled you can kill level 80. ( no wowish crap ups that guy is 7 levels above me with ebayed equip and no way i can kill him )

They may put some free trials any time now ( probably by mid of Feb) so you may wait if you dont wanna risk it.

Personally i think the box is worth of its value as you will get at least 50 to 60h of good content with funny quests etc.. just dont expect to much of end game for the time being .. if you are not spoiled and you like to pvp and gain new levels and equip doing it then go for it .. if you wanna be in theme park after level 80 well there is only pve raiding and siegeing.

You are correct and I agree. We just see pvp different.

What you describe here as pvp is what I describe as random ganking. And right now pvp in AoC consists of random ganking.

I'm looking for big fun battles and meaningful pvp, and AoC fails to deliver either of them. Siege battles are a joke and I don't see random ganking as meaningful pvp.

Well true we have different point of view when it comes to PvP.
I dont like being told by devs who I can kill and when/where I like to pvp when I want it and where ever i want it.

I like the feeling while Iam doing PvE and see someone incoming .. its tens will he attack, should i attack first, should I go to hide and avoid him. When it comes to RvR games there is no such thing its look RED incoming lets attack as he will.

Also the politics between guilds are changing etc.. in RvR everything is predetermined. Thats why Iam fan of open world PvP more then the siegeing.

The problem you may have is that for you meaningful PvP can only come with RvR where you are told who to kill with all storyline behind.

I was never RvR fan and I did enjoy DaoC for a while but moved to Lineage 2 despite that its asian grinder etc.. but the choice who I want to kill was mine and not from devs.

Iam must point out that siege battles are not a joke and they are quite enjoyable. ( sieging is fixed for months now )

Yes, I know the siege battle bugs have been fixed and stability has been improved. For me siege battles are just plain old boring and there is no patch to fix boring.

Sounds like something somebody would say when there is nothing more to bitch about. Make sure to add "In my opinion".

Very true on those points. What PVP is to you is only opinion of your specific flavor. To help answer the question, it can be looked at as open PVP with consequences not really set restrictions. The system in place (Consequence System) is being reviewed for tweaks based on player feedback.

What I can tell you on the consequence system is that it's being reviewed as I mentioned above. Based on feedback we will more than likely look to taking the system deeper to offer more meaning and more detail to our current PVP. Nothing is obviously set in stone but it's very possible that we can use this system as a gateway to offer those who want to take being a vile murderer a little further than what's currently there. Which means opening up a new world to criminals and black markets alike while still trying to keep the main intetion of preventing lowbie ganking.

All of this of course is only from what could happen but first we must look at the top concerns with the system before anything. I hope this answers your question as well gives you some ideas of where PVP might take you compared to others.

PvP in AoC is under development. Neither the players nor the devs know exactly how to further the pvp sphere of the game. But anyway, one thing is certain - Hyboria is a harsh world, expect to be killed any minute (especially considering the fact that you can hide in broad daylight). In WoW I was never forced to actually PvP and learn to really use my class, in AoC you are simply forced to become a pvper, and that is awesome.

But ofc, many will quickly get tired of AoC's pvp, no matter how dynamic it is. World PvP zones (NO, KHESHATTA IS NOT, Khesh is a stupid boring desert area designed for PVE) with dynamic objectives would boost AoC's pvp tenfold. Some form of Wintergrasp in AoC would be truly awesome.

Yes this game is a open pvp-game.

PVP servers = you can kill anyone pretty much everywere. But if you kill players many lvls lower then you, you will get murderer points. If you then continue to kill low lvls you will get more and more murder points until you will become a murderer, and then you will become a outcast from the normal society (a bad guy).

PVE servers = you can only pvp in minigames / sieges and Borderkingdoms ( a specific zone for pvp)
