No visible cloaks. I highly doubt that ever happens, but who knows. I would like visible cloaks as well.
Population is pretty good atleast in primetime US at night. Mod 8 gets released this week for US. They may/maynot have a comeback weekend, but in any case whenever a mod gets released the population picks up for a week or two from people subbing to check out the new mod.
This mod is going to give DX10 and new revamped starting area, other things as well.
I haven't tried the monk class so I can't comment on if it is fun.
But if you are thinking of coming back this week is a good idea with the release of the new mod.

Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.
I love monks, they don't have any real comfort zones you have to work at them all the time.
When I say comfort zones, I mean builds where you know you are going to be unbeatable if you use this tactic or that all the time.
Monk is the class if you don't want to be uber, but you like playing on the edge.
Not yet and there's been no announcements of cloaks being added, yet.
Depending on your play time the population can be good.
Some people love playing the Monk although I'm quite found of my 28point tanking finnessible fighting lvl 16 Elven Sorcerer with an ubuffed Armor Class of 47.
Don't I wish we had visible cloaks! But sadly, not yet.
Population is good on Khyber server, I can not attest to others. I logged on at different times of the day and I always see groups forming.
The monk is alot of fun. If you have a lot of knowledge about this class, you can build a really awesome monk. As for me, I tend to splash a couple of levels of monks into some of my builds for their superior ac.
I just came back to the game after a 14 month hiatus, which had nothing to do with whining about Turbine or any parts of the game. (It's a game, if you dont like it, play something else. I don't hear anybody sniveling that Star Wars Monopoly doesn't integrate enough of the movies storyline into the game so its crap, etc.) Since the server merge and the advent of Asian players, the population density on Sarlona is fair to good most nights. Monks are very fun and still being worked on. Even other classes with a monk splash are fun. Some of the new stuff is a grind, but still fun.
I find that you HAVE to find the right people to run with to stay excited about the game. And having someone sitting next to you playing with you is nice also.
Give it another shot, the worst that can happed is that you get bored again and find something new.
Look me up on Sarlona if you like: Quannadhi, Zakheba.
I played the game for a few months because well im a Huge D&D fan. I just thought the game wasnt the type that warranted a monthly subscription. It might have been more successfull if it went the Guld Wars route. IMO.... Still a fun game if you get the right group
People keep saying games should go the GuildWars route like that is a simple plan and assures success. It worked for one game and that game sold over 4 million copies. Yet when GW2 was first announced the developers did not immediately say they were going to use the same method of buy it once and play it free. Yes they then came out and said they would, but even they had to make a decision on using a method they had used veru successfully before. It is not as simple as some people obviously think.
On another note I returned to DDO this past week after nearly 2 years away.
I am not convinced by the GW model over a long period, it works while you are putting out expansion packs at least yearly, beyond that not so sure.
Out of interest a while back I cross referenced the GW income against the CoH figures from the NCSoft accounts to see what it would work out as paid subscriptions when averaged across the life of the GW game. Worked out at as equivalent to 300k to 400k CoH monthly subscriptions. That was quite a while ago and when they were knocking out expansions regularly, I would imagine that the averaged income and thus the equivalent subscriptions over the period is now well down.
Just for clarification when I say subscriptions I don't mean how many people are actually playing, just their approximate worth in monthly subscriptions.
The GW business model is dependant on paid for expansions, there is no doubt if becomes a liability if you cease expansions. Once GW2 comes out I really do not see GW selling many more copies and running that game is going to become a cost with almost no income to cover it.
I'm having a lot of fun with DDO, but it has taken a very, very long time for Turbine to fix the utter broken Crap that Ken Troop gave us. Now Mr Troop is making a fiasco out of the new D&D virtual content....but Wizards still holds on to his sorry ass.
Since this is a "considering coming back thread" I'll ask if they have talked about a lifetime subscription model or is it still the same monthly, quarterly, yearly subscription model?
