We are already seeing the gorgeous shining wings in-game! How can we possibly wait two months for the non-exclusive Valkyrie Package to become available to PC users?
The good news is, we don't have to. Even better, if we buy now, it's a better deal!
For those who might not know, the Valkyrie Package is the bonus pac within the new MAC friendly version of CoX. It includes costuming pieces that when assembled look rather like a heavily armoured archangel, including a bad-ass sword (which is only a "skin" for the Broadsword powerset, not a power unto itself). However there is a new power included in this package: a Teleport-to-Mission power (recharge time is 2 hours). Extra character creation slots are also offered.
The great news is that anyone can buy this package now and make use of the bonus pack, even if you dont use a MAC. Just activate the code given as an upgrade to your account and use it on your PC like normal. Yes, it costs $20 bucks when, two months from now it will only cost $10. But right now, it includes a month's subscription fee, which you'd be paying anyway! So you are actually getting the bonus pac for only $5!
Now there are caveats: 1) In case it matters to you, we're not yet sure if that month of subsription time will count toward Vet Rewards; and 2) The extra character creation slots offered are for new accounts only.
But if what you want are the costuming and the mission teleporter, and you've got the extra five bucks, I say, GO FOR IT!

I am pretty sure caveat 1 is the dumbest thing anyone has ever said. Any time your account is active you get vet reward credit.
Number two is pretty obvious as well, but I have seen people ask about it and it is good information.
It does sound dumb doesnt it? However, like it or not, its actually the truth. I do believe I covered it in my article about the Lusca Raid. Any time you participate in one of those "Get a month for free," deals, that month does NOT count toward your Vet Rewards. Only paid months count. And even though the cost of the MAC package is enough to include the cost of a subscription, that is not all it includes. It is being marketed complete with the first month's paid subscription for free. That first month subscription likely does NOT count toward your Vet Rewards then, but as of yet I've had no verification of this. To those who are hung up on badges and the associated bling, this may be a serious consideration, and worth the two month wait and the extra $5 bucks.
But it's nice that you recognize it all as good information anyway.
you get extra character creation slots if you start a new account with the mac pac? like 12 extra slots? like ~$50 value included extra for a new account?
it could be a typo in one spot in the pac's description and mean that if you start a new account you're getting 12 character slots per account?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Which means every month your account is active, free or paid, counts toward vet rewards. This is nothing but more misinformation from our CoH game correspondant.
And this statement now puts you, Wickkedbowtie, in the same category as Damian7, as in being reported for slander, since my information came directly from CoX Customer Support. By the way, I'm sure any court of law will accept their say-so to verify my years in the game, AND the number of hours I've spent on the Test Server as well. Call me what you will boys, I don't care. Challenge my professional reputation and you've crossed the line.

same category? um, someone who's played COH for a while and understands it and does a little research if it's something new? that's not so bad.
seriously? slander?
i've got 3 extra months vet time than i do paid time... your caveat on that is correct though? cuz see, if your caveat is correct, then there's a serious bug and i have an extra vet badge than i should.
if your caveat is incorrect, then...
check the forums and the information on the mac pac itself... they correct themselves on the 12 slots (perhaps in the second part of the power description?). apparently you don't get an extra $50 worth of character slots by paying $20 and starting a new account.
as for the rest... please do invoke a court -- a court could say "yes, this person has paid a sub on this game for X time", your postings/stories on this site would be the tell on if you're an expert or not, NOT a court of law.
espousing the trinty and EVER using the word "healer" in reference to COH... no MATTER the reasoning, there's never a time to use it repeatedly in an article ESPECIALLY to new coh players... and i'm sorry, but anyone giving articles for new players, normally does go out of their way to dispel thoughts of trinity/healers; so claim whatever you wish, your articles are there for people to read, as are your posts.

Slander? Slander????? The truth is not slander. I just went to the vet rewards FAQ and this is what it says....
Does the free month that was included with my game purchase count towards my reward time?
Yes.
Whats that say Pill? FREE MONTHS DO COUNT!!!!!
I was already in the same group as Damian7. In fact I have been a member of the same group he is for over about 2 years now. I don't care if you have that fancy title. You are spouting false information and refuse to consider that you are wrong. That makes you detrimental to the life of this game and I will call you out on it if I catch it.

ug, having issues with this post here.
wikked, if someone is trolling, they want you to be upset. sometimes people can be earnest in their desire to be helpful, and be in the wrong (although, judging from the articles and trolling posts, i'm not sure if that's the case or not). it's just like a new player -- you have to educate on what is/isn't correct in COH and let God do the rest. honestly, you should read some of the eve correspondent articles -- eve has very specific "rulesets" and um, some of those articles act like the rules for play just don't exist.
the mac pac, however, does have two different wings and several capes you can start using at level 1. so that's pretty groovy.
the valk costume pieces can easily be mix/matched with other sets for a unique valkyrie look, and they do match with a number of other sets.
the armored wings are a nice touch.
the mission transporter is great EVEN WITH a 2 hour timer -- because it will transport you to any mission... i've gone from steel canyon to the mish door in talos with it. now will it take you from anywhere to anywhere? maybe. haven't tried it from base, or ouro, or pocket d... but i'm sure i will eventually, or others might post if they've tried.
sooo all in all, for $5, i give it two thumbs up! (not counting the other $15 as that's what a normal month would be).
edit: looks like someone's asked specifics in the official mac pac thread:
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/218717
honestly, the only reason this silliness has gone on this long, is because the coh/v forums are no where near as active as say the eve forums. those articles need some serious fact checking as well.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
The charge of slander is in regard to Damian7's precise claims that I do not have 4 1/2 years in the game, and that I've never been on the Test Server --- and to Wikkedbowtie's claim that I am providing misinformation.
If I cannot quote CoX Customer Support, who am I to believe? The likes of you?
Wikked, I never said the beginning month that came free with a new game/account counted against Veteran's Rewards. I said it MIGHT ---AND I said that I wasn't sure. Only after I was challenged by you two did I explain my reasoning, which referenced the FACT that non-paid subscription months do not count toward Vet Rewards. As I stated, this comes from CoX Customer Support, because I once found myself one month short of what I was owed in Vet Rewards, and this is what THEY told me, in person, on the phone. I had at one point extended an invitation to a friend to join CoH, and recieved the one month subscription for free as a reward. However it was classified as an unpaid month when counted toward Vet Rewards and therfore set my account one month behind in that regard.
So, Damian7 may very well have three months that count toward his Vet Rewards, for which HE never paid. Or maybe he is just full of his usual stories, I don't know. I don't really care. He can fill his posts with all the presumptions, contrived "facts" and lordly psycho-babble that he wants. (If it meant a thing, the editors of this site would have gone knocking on his door instead of mine.) But neither of you will be permitted to trash my name as a writer and you better darn well watch your step.
Damian7 asked how you all can "report" me? The same way I reported you: write a calm, professional letter to the powers that be at this site, with a copy to my attorney. Whether Damian7 can actually produce anything calm and professional remains to be seen.
no offence but those fonts are a bit anoying to read. like someone just flashed a light at my face.
Pill, it's not slander if its the truth. There has been a lot of misinformation from you that you have refused to correct. I can find nothing, in any place on the official coh website saying free months do not count toward vet rewards. Sure, I can't find anything that says they do beyond trial and first free month, but that does not automatically make it so. I am kind of like Damian7 on the vet time, except I have four months more vet time then I have paid time. Four months more vet time. You know what that means?
City of Heroes standard edition...1 free month
City of Villians.....1 free month
Good vs Evil edition......1 free month
took a few months off as a break, came back with reinvite code.....15 free days
sent a friend a reinvite code after he took a few months break....15 free days
This is the proof I have that free months count. Now if you actually have any way to counter this I will be happy to read what you have.
if factual information is available, stick to it, instead of opinion and "reasonings".
the articles and everything else... they speak for themselves. hopefully, you'll go update them to not include the heavy hints at "the trinity" and remove all the healerthis and healerthat.
or, just repost those articles on the official site, and then feel free to say they're slandering; i know folks on there that live for this kind of silly, needless drama.
and, my usual stories? please do elaborated. my "stories" have pretty much been correcting errors that were passed off as "playstyle". playstyle has it's place, but repeating healer over and again in explaining THIS game, is NOT a good playstyle, and is DEFINITELY not a playstyle that new players to COH should be exposed to, because it reinforces bad habits from other MMOs. these are items one does not have to explain to an experienced coh player.
it's ok though, i can start linking these articles back to the official forums and ask them to come to mmorpg.com and comment.
although, several experienced players have been commenting. but stop with the senseless drama. you make erroneous statements, they get corrected. you give bad advice, it gets corrected. this is not slander.
oh, but maybe you should yell at folks on the official site as well? i'll just grab an example off of:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=12899051&page=0&fpart=9&vc=1
perhaps the editors here need to start visiting the official forums and, as i've asked several times now, do some fact checking on correspondent articles for coh, eve, and other games as well. if this forum were as active as eve's, you'd have a WHOLE lot more voices raised in protest, that i can guarantee.

MMORPG's COH "correspondant" has been very, very slow and very, very confused about things recently... Their last "informative guide" was about something that hasn't been the same since 2 issues ago, so ... a bit slow on the uptake, and/or maliciously trying to confuse things. They're not informed very well, for whatever reason. I was going to try correcting them, but I couldn't get on my mmorpg account for some reason...

edit: oh wait, i'm sorry, has the story changed to "i've paid for 4 1/2 years of subs and to say i'm not is slander" and it's not "i'm an expert on COH" anymore?
you could've paid for 15 years of COH and that does not help nor hinder you in being an expert ON coh. like i said, courts CAN prove how long you've paid for a sub -- i honestly don't see how that is relevant, when your postings and articles speak quite loudly for themselves.
could we keep it on a relevant topic and not "i paid for those 4 1/2 years"? pretty please? like i've said before, paying and playing does not make a player better.... in a recent post i made a pretty good explanation/example of that, and why (eve online forum).
write whatever you want, if opinion is represented as fact, and it's wrong, i'm sure someone will say something. but honestly, if basic game mechanics are ignored under the claim of "playstyle"; then, i'm at a loss...
edit 2: stop with the threats already. honestly, it doesn't matter how long you've had an account. we only care that you give good/bad information, ESPECIALLY if someone has put "correspondent" by your name. as i've said, that tank/brute article by someone else needed some serious fact checking, and pretty much every eve article could've used a lot of fact checking. it's not good for this site's reputation, nor for new players, for articles and posts made by "correspondents" to be inaccurate, nor threatening. put out good information and people will praise you for it.
i re-read lusca, and i still see trinity all over it. you say it doesn't matter if the tank is a tanker or defender or controller... but the tank needs to be healed... paraphrased of course, and just on and on with the trinity. i've been on several different teams of 8 that have taken lusca down. i was on a team of 8 that took adamoster (sp?) down earlier today. new players need to be inundated with the non-trinty style of play in coh. there is NOT a need for a tank, nor someone to be healing said tank, there really isn't. those sentences with those words just don't make a lot of sense when playing coh, UNLESS it's new players who don't know HOW to play coh and they're carrying over bad habits from other MMOs.
but you keep saying you're not a new player but you're writing for new players. all the more important for you to start pointing out the correct way to play coh, and by correct, i mean the easier way, the non restrictive way, the (compared to other mmos) out of the box way... the way a bunch of MAN builds could take down a GM.
and getting on test... you're the one that said it was a bunch of geek speak and didn't sound very easy. i'm not going to NOT read into allusions you make in your non-clearly-concisively-chosen-wordings, it's not possible. there's lots of things people don't explicitly say when they're beating around the bush and just hinting at items. but, that's what you get if you're not concise and precise in your wording. nothing i can do there other than read what's written and follow it to a logical conclusion.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
mission transporter -- if you use the vip pass to get into pocket d, the mission transporter does not work from that first lounge area. have not tried it from the dance floor.
also, it transports you to door missions only, it seems.
"no mission has been selected or the currently selected task it not a door mission."
i've also found that when working with customer support folks, if you're nice, they're nice; if you try to play semantics, or are condescending, you might find yourself with less than you SHOULD have, because of your 'tude. just an aside to help everyone spread the love and be nice to folks in thankless jobs.

ex replied and we have an official answer to the questions posed to the caveats. ya know, getting information from official sources instead of just making guesses, is the sort of thing a reporter would do irl. but, it's not a slam against volunteers who may not have any experience in those type of areas. ex did say they'd contacted mmorpg.com and would be getting to know the correspondents here in order to better facilitate communications and such in order to avoid misinformation being communicated moving forward and such. and that's not slander, it's over more than one of ex's posts.
The answers to your questions are the following:
Does starting a new account on a Mac Pack grant 12 character slots?
This can be a confusing question because of the history behind character slots. With the original product 'City of Heroes' users received with their subscription 8 character slots. When 'City of Villains' launched that number was increased to 12 character slots for any users that purchased that product. Last November when NCsoft Acquired the City of Heroes Franchise all editions of the game were back coded to be inclusive of both City of Heroes & City of Villains thereby making all accounts reflect the 12 character slots. With the launch of Issue 12: Midnight Hour, Positron made this Announcement which effectively outlined our Character Slot Purchase Feature along with corresponding Veteran Rewards for long term subscription holders. Players can now have a maximum of 36 characters per server.
Which is where the confusion is creeping into this situation. Some current users reading the 12 Character Slots bullet of the Mac Edition are interpreting that to mean 12 additional character slots which would be in addition to the 12 you start with on a new account. The marketing of this product is for new users and the product for new accounts grants 12 character slots only. Users that are upgrading their current account so they can get the game time, mission teleporter, and costume items will be receiving no additional character slots. This question has already been asked previously in this thread but I gave a more comprehensive answer here as there is still some residual confusion.
Does my purchased game time count towards Veteran Rewards?
Yes, your purchase counts towards Veteran Rewards, when you apply the "upgrade" to your current account you should see some changes in your billing statement. For example if your subscription was currently set to bill you on Feb. 10, 2008, after applying the code it should state next bill due Mar. 10, 2008. This billed time counts towards your Veteran Rewards. If you do not experience the above scenario when upgrading your account, or if you have created a new account instead of upgrading your current account then please contact our billing support through PlayNC Support and select Account Support on the drop down options where applicable.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I am pretty sure caveat 1 is the dumbest thing anyone has ever said. Any time your account is active you get vet reward credit.
Number two is pretty obvious as well, but I have seen people ask about it and it is good information.
Insulting someone who you think is dumb is not likely to make them smarter. So you should ask yourself why you are doing it to someone who is trying to be helpful.

helpful? intentionally misleading is how i see it. how can you claim to play COH for 4+ years and give bad information consistently and then defend that bad information vehemently?
copy/pasting the op from coh was fine... adding erroneous caveats? one was originally "not sure if you get the time towards vet rewards" but was then changed to "i personally spoke to customer service this one time and they told me it doesn't count towards vet time"; the second caveat, about 12 character slots, was outrightly in err.
i've reread all the op's articles. if she indeed has 4+ years playing experience and mmorpg.com selected her because of her expert knowledge - then, she IS intentionally misinforming (new) players to the game.
there's no fixing someone who is intent on doing harm.
edit: and i know the quoted wasn't directed towards me; but the "slander slander slander" drama was where i decided this person WAS intent on misinforming, or was outrightly misrepresenting about playing this game for more than a couple of months, or about being an expert on coh.

Oh I agree that I should have been a little politer there and I intend to be from now on. But, I am not the one spreading misinformation. If she had gone and looked and seen that her information was wrong and changed it I would most likely have apologised for being rude. Instead I was told that I am wrong she is right, I am slandering her and she has played the game for four+ years. Your anger is directed in the wrong place.

I'm not angry. Frankly I don't care much at all either way about either issue.
