correct...but unlikely they would keep 2. Smed has already laid some of the verbal groundwork for closure. They have started on the path for server closures even though they said no closures are forthcoming for now.
Station Pass could keep it going if LEC agrees with it...remember there is a license agreement that SOE pays for and it is probably not cheap.
Could they... Physically... Technically.. Yes. Will they? NO. Come on. LEC has invested a reported amount of tens of millions of dollars into SWTOR... This will also be the flagship EA title... No way in hell they let a crappy NGE with a few thousand subs live on. Especially since the NGE is basically a negative. Why they even keep it alive I don't know...

Just to spite you, Wildcat. Just to spite you.
I don't think it has anything to do with that. If they have whatever random number it is that keeps it up now it could continue. LEC doesnt' give a crap about the quality... I mean *waves hand* look at all those A+ rated Star Wars RTS game.. oh wait... (yes that's my point).
If the numbers aren't there then SOE will shut it down.
What I feel when I pretend to be logical is...
Well I wanted to side track to something but I'll skip that and just say.
The Old Republic will be what they tried to turn Pre-CU/CU into.. but done on a much better quality level. So I would feel in many ways why would anyone play the NGE after that point. Regardless of the quality of lack of quality of the product.
Now Pre-CU if it was still running I could easily see staying in operation simply because it was an entirely different concept.
Flaws it had.. but it wasn't the standard clone.
Oh the short version is I don't see the NGE staying up but simply because why would you play the crappier version of the same thing. Of course ToR may not have housing and/or other things. So maybe that alone will keep the NGE alive.. I'm not sure how its still up regardless.
Depends on how well the new MMo does. There not gonna pull SWG if the new game bombs. If it does as well as expected, then SWG will go. Or maybe its the opposite..if the new game bombs they'll pull SWG to help the new one. Either way, I think Smed made it pretty clear it depends on the new SW mmo's success or lack of success. I dont see it going anywhere before the launch of TOR.
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.

I believe the OP is referring to KoTR
SWG should be "Ok" as KoTR will be nothing like SWG. It's going to be more along the lines of their single player games. Heavy scripted story, lots of instances and not a whole lot of freedom or choice. You can forget all that housing, exploring and crafting like SWG. Dunno about space, they haven't said anything about that yet. It probably won't be in at launch.
It's gonna be a good game no doubt but it's not going to do anything like SWG.
Lucas arts could care less, they are a total marketing company, as long as they get their cut they could give a rats arse about how many games are out there.
Pre-NGE .... rose colored glasses, it sucked, thats why they changed it and never went back.

Smed already said it depends on how well the new game does.
It's gonna be a good game no doubt but it's not going to do anything like SWG.
Agree, It will be like KOTOR
Lucas arts could care less, they are a total marketing company, as long as they get their cut they could give a rats arse about how many games are out there.
Lucasfilm does care however. And they decide.

When it comes to SWG Smed isn't the only decision maker. If Lucas wants KotORO to be the only SW mmorpg on the market then KotORO will be the only SW mmorpg on the market.
I am sure there are out clauses for both SOE and LEC in the license contract based upon performance.
Some folks asked "why didnt' you bring out the NGE as SWG2?" That way SOE could keep the audience you had for SWG, and then the millionsof WoW people would flock to SWG2 (hah!) But LEC didn't want more than one SW MMO on the market, so the abomination that is the NGE replaced the existing game and caused the SOE transaction servers to melt down with cancellation requests.
So when the KOTOR MMO comes out, SWG NGE will die. As simple as that.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
SWG will still be the only MMORPG that allows you to live the saga of the Star Wars Movies.
When did Lucas do that movie between ANH and ESB where suddenly the Jedi returned by the thousands and could be seen EVERYWHERE, where "Clone Wars" technology suddenly returned and was better than modern stuff, and the Hoth fight in ESB happened years before it did in the movie?
SWG has nothing in common with the movie saga other than (sort of) the physical setting. Much like the current NGE game has nothing but avatars and physical setting with the old game.

LoL, that is 100% ironically correct. Badger is more full of spin than a yo-yo but truth can't be denied. I am going to pop The Empire Strikes Back in my Blue Ray and see if I can locate the hundreds of Jedi I have been missing on screen all this time. I know they MUST be there! It would almost make sense if you had said "SWG will still be the only MMORPG that allows you to live the saga of the Star Wars Christmas Special" but honestly...the Christmas Special was better than the NGE.

I can't imagine that Lucas would allow it...especially since the NGE has such a bad rep in the mmo world.

That would be incredibily iconic and starwarsy.
