Our writer Reed Hubbard has completed his second diary entry for the World Preview Event for Guild Wars. Here is a excerpt from this second installment:
TGIF! Well, I'm always glad to see Friday (aren't we all?), but today I was especially looking forward to the end of a particularly tough work week, for this was the real start of the Guild Wars World Preview Event. After last night's small taste, I was ready to jump right in. I started at mission 2, Divinity Coast. I was quickly invited into a group of six and we jumped headlong into the mission. It was a quick run and a successful mission, made easy by having a full balanced group. Missions are successive, meaning that you must complete mission 1 to get to mission 2 and so on. My Divinity Coast group was all business. No talking or diversion. I followed along as we plowed through every creature thrown in our path. We were tasked with picking up the Divine Eye of Janthir and taking it to a village. The Eye casts a cool effect that reminded me of the eye at the top of the pyramid on the back of a dollar bill. Along the way the mission changed a little, but we handled it well. During the course of things, my warrior/monk leveled to 16. My first official level in Guild Wars. I'm so proud. |

Yes, I agree with the positive review above. I have had a great time playing Guild Wars. I just love the NPC Team mates - they don't go afk or fall asleep at the keyboard, and their bathroom breaks are minimal. My boyfriend and I used four of them for all the quests, and the only difficulty we had with them was on the final mission at the River Province. However, I gather from others that this was considered a difficult mission. It took us about 6 attempts to complete it, whereas we had stormed through the others.
Then we spent hours in the arena. This was great fun, even for me who is not particularly keen on pvp. When I was with a team which managed to beat 20 other teams before being beaten, I felt really elated.
Only down side was the time spent downloading each zone. It may be worse doing this from the UK, I don't know, but it has taken at least 15 minutes per zone. Lag has been barely noticeable apart from a couple of spikes from about 1 GMT this morning.
I would love to buy this game, but I have tried really hard to get it from US and no supplier will ship to UK, although the rest of Europe seems to be catered for. It may end up us having to have it sent to my boyfriends parents in Belgium. This is just plain ridiculous.
Highly recommended.
So far as ive played Guild Wars it seems very good, but the only problem is that its a little to much mission-based. It is kind of free roaming becasue you can travel to different places and such, but it could be a little more free with better maps too. Another thing is that it is extremely hard to come by items to make armor. It takes about an hour or two to get enough stuff to finally make good armor, even though the armor is pretty good once you get it.
Levels are a little bit hard to acheive too, the exp comes in small doses so it takes a long time to rasie a level. This is only one mans opinion so what would you give it a yes or a no Either way i cant wait for it to come out because i think it will be a very good game.
We thought it was all mission based until we found the "explorable" areas, of which there are quite a few. Found some really heavy areas with lots of bone dragons and other scary things. Ended up running all the way back to the previous zone with half a dozen mobs on our tail! Great fun!
Agree about the armour comment - not all that many drops and takes ages to collect together enough stuff to make armour, which turns out to be only +1 armour higher than that which the chars already have. I think maybe this is part of the content which will be added for retail.
The game is so smooth it is difficult to remember it is only beta.
EDIT - the above area is called Majesty's rest (I think) and is in the middle of the explorable areas.
