Friend of mine was asking about free trial, wanted to check out the game for research reasons, I cant seem to find one.
Anyone know if there is a free trail?

Looks like you could try it using station launcher if you have station account - But I haven't got further info, just saw that "try it" is active in there...

Yup, you can access a free trial of the game through the use of SOE's new Station Launcher software.
