What would make the best MMO for you?
I got to thinking about all the MMORPG games that I have played. And as a moderate MMO player there were things the stood out and made me like a game all the more. If you could take the parts of a game you really liked and put them into an MMO, what parts would you have in your MMO?

Looting: Wow
Reputation System: Wow
Gathering System: Vanguard
Crafting System: Vanguard

I asked a similar question and compiled the data from the MMORPG finder.
What did people look for in their MMORPG searches. HERE are the stats
3rd graph down: Most important Feature of a MMORPG
NOw granted this is only based on about 9000 searches and the MMORPG finder doesnt have all the choices that you ask. Still I think it makes one thing clear. Its the game and how fun it is that is most important by far. Everything else is second.
However I would add:
PvP: DAOC
Music: AoC
Graphics: AoC
Population: I prefer something a few million less than what WoW has
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Character Creation: Vanguard - EQ2
Classes: Neverwinter Nights 2 (I know, it's not an MMO) and the skill hybrid system found in many games
Races: EQ2, Vanguard
Combat System: Diablo 2/Tabula Rasa
PVP/RVR: WAR
PVP/RVR Rewardes:WAR
Looting: For PvE I'd like the rewards like Diablo 2
Reputation System: Vanguard/WAR/WoW/LOTRO
Gathering System: LOTRO
Crafting System: Vanguard
Story Line: LOTRO
Auction House: WAR/LOTRO
Physical World/Land Mass: HUGE!, Very varied, kind of a Vanguard/LOTRO/WoW/WAR mix is area size. In size, bigger than Vanguard's three continents.
Death Penalty: I liked Vanguard's taking away of EXP
Graphics: EQ2 physics and lighting, Vanguard models, mix on texture style. With a LOTRO/WAR art style though
Server Type: Only 2 servers. One would be FFA PvP, Full loot. The other would be the Core Set. No districts/instances except dungeons/special quests.
Outfit system like LOTRO, Action based, HUGE!, high quality, Needs physics, flying, mounts at level 15 or so. Great particle affects. And an epic score of music. Cutscenes too. As well as something like the TCG from SWG (without being able to actually buy cards with real money) and Diplomacy from Vanguard as well as the Inn Legue from LOTRO.

Character Creation:
Classes: no classes or levels, just different skills that you can develop (check Earthrise for what I mean)
Races: Saga of Ryzom/The Chronicles of Spelborn (so no cliche crap)
Combat System: Guild Wars/ The Chronicles of Spelborn
PVP/RVR: Guild Wars' GvG system for PvP, WAR's RvR
PVP/RVR Rewards: ranking/boasting system like in GW for PvP or npc discounts for area control in RvR, absolutely no gear (promotes stale play and cheating from ppl that see this as a grind for the must have gear).
Looting: totally depends on the FFA mechanics (no safe zones and insurance, no playerlooting)
Reputation System: Factions based on the lore. With different ways of obtaining (Workorders like in VG, mob grinding, RvR)
Gathering System: absolutely no nodes! mines (static spots, that maybe can defended) or SWG's system with harvesters which would be even better (less idle time).
Crafting System: a mix from SWG (factories, personal crafting stations) and Anarchy Online (assembly) or Vanguard. Also all skillbased (no levels).
Story Line: Guild Wars (the epic storyarc), Saga of Ryzom(rich lore)
Auction House: in combination with playershops (SWG)
Physical World/Land Mass: Vanguard Saga of Heroes, but with more planets like in SWG
Death Penalty: DP like in GW for arenabased PvP, rez sickness for RvR like in WAR (penalty for respawn, no penalty for player res to promote teamplay)
Graphics: Vanguard for world looks, SWG for citylooks, needs to be scalable so that its not a problem for people that want to play it
Server Type: Guild Wars where you can play with anyone anywhere on the world (switch servers in certain playerhubs)
Playercities/Housing: SWG of course (not any of the half assed newer attempts)
I Would Have the....
Character Creation: I really enjoyed the character creation of Planeshift, a relativly underground game, it really makes you feel like you are the character, writing a bio and past for him/her makes it easier to roleplay. And EVE also had a great character creation system, where you could edit his/her facial features to the last detail.
Classes: Guild Wars has diverse classes with their own spefic uses. Although one class could sometimes have a slight advantage over anouther in most cases, countering classes dont stand a chance unless skill is present.
Races:
Combat System: Guild Wars has a particular nice combat system. It is a bit like WoW except you dont have any amount of skills available to you and one skill really builds off anouther. When preping for battle you really had to think what skills would create a combo.
PVP/RVR: EVE Online PvP could be anything from a Low Secruity raid party to massive Alliance vs. Alliance battles for territory. It always involved a lot of teamwork and communication, and everyone from newbies in frigits to veterans in capital ships have their part on the battlefeild. Although im not a huge fan of Sci-Fi the same thing is possible in fanasy.
PVP/RVR Rewardes: In EVE Online you fought not really for riggs your defeated foes leave behind but for honor and land. Killboards counted your kills and who they were, you would be praised for it amoungst your corp, and on a larger scale you were doing your part to keep the territory for your crafters safe.
Looting: EVE Online, when I kill someone I want to loot their weapons and armor scaps that werent destroyed in the fray. Sure its harsh to loose everything but thats what the insurance was for.
Gathering System: EVE Online really took gathering and made it exciting. The demension in while you held your harvest was realistic, and it was owned by player corps. Everyone mined to do their part in the corp so they could keep the "town" running and engineers busy making ships and ammo. Convert to a fanasy game.
Crafting System: EVE Onlines crafting system took blueprints and made them into items needed for fellow corp mates with the proper materials of course. Each corporation really had their own little economy in 0.0. As a crafter you are protected by fighters and supplied by gatherers, one big happy family.
Story Line: Guild Wars Propehcies, whats there to say I enjoyed it.
Auction House: WoW
Physical World/Land Mass: WoW, with bigger terriotries. I liked the realistic travel on horseback or by boat, not by gryphon though.
Death Penalty: EVE, you lose your whole set unless you insure it. Without clones though, I prefer fanasy over Sci-Fi.
Graphics: I am not too picky about graphics, any mainstream MMO's graphics would do.
Server Type: EVE Online, one big, big map if I could be unrealistic. If not then WoW with bigger maps.
Other…
Guilds/Clans: I liked EVE Online where you could have your own diplomatic system with voting as a republic, or being ruled by a monarch. Combine a few guilds and you get a Nation that rules the kingdom.
I obviously really liked EVE Online, the only two reasons I don't play it now are that you can't walk in stations yet and I prefer fanasy games.

A few words leap out at me at this point:
Interdependence, options, individuality, exploration and challenge are at the top of my list. What I mean by this is that communities make MMO's what they are in my opinion. Interdependance be it by crafting, grouping or what have you breeds a tighter community and perhaps steers it to a wholesome friendly variety as opposed to what WoW has. Options and Individuality could go hand in hand by giving you the options to change your appearance, dye your clothes or armor and weapons as well as how your character progresses. There should be more then just 1 viable answer to any particular situation. There should never be a general "right" answer but rather a multitude of good answers.
Exploration should bring back the awe that I remember from back in the old days. The places you go to should inspire emotion be it fear, awe, delight or even joy. They'd allow you to become attached to the game and care more about it and the people in it. Last but not least there needs to be challenge... at least for me. The theme park rides that are passed off as MMO's now are not what I'm looking for. I have a brain and want to exercise it. I want to be able to overcome puzzles and obsticles with my own wit rather then being lead by the hand.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Although I enjoy PvP I prefer GROUP PvE or PvP. I think class balancing makes character types too similar.
Character Creation: Aion
Classes: Guild Wars
Races: Fantasy, yet original, like Aion, not Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, etc...
Combat System: Something like Aion, exciting combo skill chains and both WASD and click to move to accomidate any kind of strategy or playstyle.
PVP/RVR: I don't like RvR that much, I'm not saying its bad, just that it doesnt and can never compare to the PvP style from a game like L2, GW, EVE, etc...so my vote goes for L2/GW
PVP/RVR Rewards: Aion (fight for castles, raid bosses, gear/item rewards, rankings (that mean something other than a title), etc...
Looting: Lineage 2, where anything can be crafted, dropped (and something L2 doesnt have, can be gotten through PvP)..I don't want to see items that only drop from raid boss X on a small chance where everyone has to raid just so you can have a small % chance to get what you need...anything you do should work towards your chars progression that you need and want.
Reputation System: Earth and Beyond (factions)
Gathering System: WoW
Crafting System: WoW
Story Line: Aion (or L2's if they would actually follow it and put it to use)
Auction House: WoW
Physical World/Land Mass: Lineage 2, no instances, based on open world combat and politics
Death Penalty: Earth and Beyond or Aion, a small death penalty where you end up spawning at an area you pre-designated...never ever want to see a game where within a minute of dying you can end up where you died.
Graphics: Lineage 2 with some upgraded engine/textures/geometry and a more efficient engine
seriously...
Server Type: Lineage 2 (no different server types, just a game type, if you want a different style, play a different game, because games that try to accomidate and please everyone, usually end up lacking in each area. Also no restrictions on regions...I want to play and meet with people from all over the world like I do in L2. Regardless of what you think from other games, there's no reason to lag other than bad server hardware/ISP quality when connecting over the ocean...many games have proved this.

Quests/PvE: Earth and Beyond.
