darkfall...
destroyable housing will destroy this game, wait 3 months after release to see what I'm talking about, I can see the future.
comment positive negative it matters not to me, but I will re-visit this thread or make a new one quoting this thread 3 months after the release of darkfall to prove those who disagree wrong.

you're probably right, i mean destroyable housing (pos?) in eve online destroyed it a long time ago.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
You make a compelling argument.
But there must be hundreds of other MMOs where you dont have to burn down buildings......why not play one of those instead?
i can't wait for DFO. My trusty aim bot will rape.
Destroyable housing was never citing as a negative reason for Ultima Online nor the more recent EVE online, so I don't think I can buy into your thesis until you give proper reasoning.
Except Ultima Online never had destroyable houses... at least when there was a single world and not two, dunno if now they have it.
EVE has it but just for player stations, a colossal effort usually footed by corporation, so losing one is not like losing your "own" cottage.

he makes a point, eve POS are monumental and are financed by a large corporation, and defended by many sentry guns and many other things...
player housing on the other hand, thats another story. i would not buy a little house to store things and then have to buy NPC guard towers to defend my little shack. might as well put it in banks, now if it was guild halls or city halls or anything owned by a community it would not be that bad.
P.S. Ultima Online did not have destroyable houses but you could break and enter and steal everything in the house. assuming you had enough skill to pick the lock, detect/avoid the traps, have a mule etc.... but it was possible.
You've never played a real pvp mmo. Trust me as someone who has, it's what is gonna make the game great. Put it this way, Darkfall is basically Shadowbane 2. Making another players HP drop to zero is NOT pvp. You will know true pvp the day you are in a fight and you have something real to lose.

But seriously- I fail to see the difference.
They can get into your house and steal the actual items that have personal value and maybe even memories attached to them and that is fine.
But if they can break the trophy case (as opposed to just taking everything inside of it), which is all a house seems to be, then that's too harsh and will be bad for the players?
Can the OP explain themself at all?
Real PVP is me burning your house and looting it at 5AM in your timezone? If you think that destroyable housing will ruin this game then this is not the mmo for you. Which is a good thing, because the type of mmo you like is the type that has flooded this market, and the type that Darkfall is here to relieve us from.

Wow, do a little research on the game before making claims about it...

Edit: Guild cities = Clan cities based around the clan bindstones.

The devs have stated that guild cities will only be assaultable at previously known times (though they haven't gone into the mechanic behind which this will operate). Is this what you're thinking I should have done research about?
Yea. When a guild declares war on another, the one being attacked decides the time of the war.

Why even have a house....lo
Unless you need place to store your dolls and arrange tea parties.

Seeing as how these past few posts are the first mention of a guild or clan v guild or clan, I hope you can forgive me for not using my psychic powers to determine that's what was meant in a thread about player housing.
I'm assuming that OP is refering to guild cities when he says houses.

more reason for me to find a nice secluded spot in 'the largest game world to date' and set up my home there.
seriously though it does sound like a problem if people are going to be retarded about it (like building right near major roads/towns and not invest in some sort of security)
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
We know that the DF devs played both UO and Shadowbane. They really liked those but didnt like to find thier cirts destroyd 5 in the morning.
So they begun with a own MMO, in wich they wanted to fix that broken feature. By that i think the devs have given this a lot motr though then any of us. Problem solved.
Or are you doing a MMO of your own?
No its fine as it is. I have no problem with the proposed content of the game and how its implemented.
The only problem is there should have been no NDA, The game should have been open for all to see from Alpha to Beta to Live.
Sure they would have been flamed at each step but as they improved the game in an open setting they would have gotten some form respect and praise in the end. And the gamers would have known what they where vested in.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
No.

Are you sure that you've played a MMO before? If you have then you would realize that destroyable housing isn't going to work for many reasons... Next you will be telling me perma-death would be a good idea also. We will see a change in this if the game does come out because money talks and bs walks so the first time a person logs and returns to find out his/her house is gone we will see the domino effect in complain/quit.
How hard is it to copy old UO? but instead we get companies that want to be ground breaking and fail miserably. I don't think we will have to worry about this anyways on the 22nd ...

You cant burn down a house if the owner is offline. This is not Shadowbane.

sounds pretty carebear to me tbqh. and if it's only guilds and their cities, and NOT private housing off on its own someplace -- then it's a watered down version of pos warfare tyvm.
