Things should get better after the NA release. I bet it will even help the current servers as more people hear about it.

It isn't going to help a single bit. Mindscape is a dumbass publisher and Frogster seems only be interested in releasing the game in Asia and fully focusses on that.

The only people that will potentially play on the current International servers are people from Scandinavia and Holland.

Mindscape has screwed up with game boxes and to date there isn't any gamebox available still. Nor any publicity whatsoever!

And seeing Acclaim's history... their release isn't gonna help us a single bit. We are stills crewed due to these retarded IP bans.

The vast majority of the old TCOS community is gone and has given up on the game the moment Acclaim and the IP bans were announced!

As Acclaim has a larger territory and the majority of EU countries in it's list, including the UK... you people might have a bit more luck getting some decent populated servers.

But for us, who are depended on the Frogster/Mindscape servers... we are pretty much screwed.

So I have pretty much given up on the game already. As Acclaim has started IP blocking most public proxy servers as well.

    Cheers

Then maybe you can tell people on the official forums where to buy a box in Scandinavia.

The problem is the  distros are trying to run spellborn just like they run the other terrible kiddie grinders they already have, it is almost like they are trying to muscle the Devs away from the game so they can turn it into a play for free item shop cashcow like all thier other generic crap. I almost think they want it to fail to force FTP and to just outright steal the game form the Devs. Just my opinion but I really don't trust these guys.

I live in Oslo, Norway now and all the Gamestop stores still haven't even heard of the game.

    No gamebox is still available.

Ofcourse you are playing the game. So am I.  I know the website, how to register and how to download it. duhh.

They need to market the game! And they need to actually start delivering game boxes! So people get actually notice of this game.

If they don't do it, then this game will die within 6 months and will never pick up.

It will be a downward spiral of a handful people joining > leaving > new handful joining > leaving > etc.

Population will never ever pickup this way and grow! Most people don't even bother to subsribe, because they are getting bored real fast, because no one is around and it's already EXTREMELY hard to get a couple people together for the group quests in the starter area!

And when you subscribe and leave the starter area... then it will become even worse. As the handful of people that are currently subscribed are scattered all over the place that you are completely on your own from there on.

    Cheers

Well, I hope they can figure their marketing strategies out and optimize them, as I have been following this game for a while.  There are so many nice features implimented into this game that are not available on others.

Although I know that graphics don't make an MMO, but they do provide aspects of that help bring you into a game.  I like the art design in TCOS and the other graphical features. I really liked the graphics of AoC, and may have been still on on if it didn't die from their vast number of mistakes.

I just wish there was more I could do to help this game out, but feel it may be too insignificant.

I haven't seen any ads for it anywhere.  It may be difficult for the the game to succeed if it has such little advertising.  Although I want to begin playing the game here, it may be in their best interest to delay the game so they can impliment a proper marketing campaign.

I believe that it is the initial release of an MMO where the company has its primary chance of building a strong subscriber base, so I feel they should delay the game slightly until they have actually promoted the game across various areas.  If they release the game with little subscriber numbers, there will be much less incentive for others to subscribe and play.

    Just my own thoughts though.

    This is true.

There are a ton more people even in Vanguards starting area these days then this brand new game, even with VGs and SOEs reputations.

TCoS is an excellent game that deserves to succeed, but without promotion it just won't.

I have seen boxes in several stores in Holland, however I just bought it online. Yes, this a game that deserves to be played!

That is a matter of opinion. The free trial certainly couldn't convince me to play TCoS over any of the AAA titles. Those have their flaws, some even numerous of them. All of the AAA MMOs also have areas they shine in however. WoW the PvE raid area, EQ2 the sheer amount of content ( combat & non-combat ), Lineage 2 and WAR the mass pvp, AoC the graphics, aso.

TCoS only has an appearantly very well crafted client with a minimum of issues and bugs ( using gameguard should be punished by a slow and painful death, but that's another story ). While the combat system may be somewhat innovative, the gameplay as a whole looks entirely uninspired, bland and has been done better before.

Which of the MMO submarkets is this game supposed to draw it's subscribers from ? PvE people ? Not really. PvP people ? Don't think so. Crafters ? From what I've seen, certainly not. Socializers ? Again, no reason for players to drop their current game ( for RPers most likely EQ2 or LotRO ). Sandbox ? Those exist outside of MMO forums ? I just don't see what crowd this game is supposed to appeal to.

In theory TCoS could change drastically after lvl 7.99 of course, from what I've read from actual subscribers that doesn't seem to be the case though.

TCoS appealed to the explorer side of me. I felt compelled to see what lies in the middle of a forest, or at the bottom of a cave, or across the deadspell.

And between the AI and combat system, combat competes with and possibly surpasses any of the AAA titles, so it does have strong appeal to PvE people.

Based on the Bartles player types I'd say it appeals to the explorers and acheivers. Not to mention that its relaxing as hell to play so it appeals to the stoners as well!

Yes and I theres lots of RP guilds really wanting to play TCOS it will be a good alternate game to play with good pve and some pvp as well, the fps engine should be fun fun.

I agree with what he said. Combat is ok, but gameplay is quite dull - it does not make  a difference if you have good combat system, if the content you use it for is very average. It is game without any direction, just random mix of features.

They're going to have to make it easy to purchase (or trial) before I'll give it a go.

Not going to jump through the hoops of a proxy sign-up just to play a game.

    When/if there's a NA release we'll see then.

But it might not ever get to that point if the EU version tanks too badly, Acclaim probably  won't even bother to release it.

depends, with any luck the EU publisher(s) bail out and Acclaim can add those countries in their list...

That's what we all hope for! Especially when it comes to Mindscape.

They don't even bother to distribute to Scandinavia!

So I hope Acclaim jumps in and at least takes over Scandinavia! As it can't get any worse then it currently is!

Is this game even released yet?

I saw on their webpage there's a link to download the client, but at 3gigs I don't just want a beta version.  Is it the full game?

Having Acclaim attached to this does not give me much faith in the product...

  • hadohado Member Posts: 80

It's confusing.  I played the Euro version over a month ago using a proxy.  It appeared to be the full game, but because I wasn't a subscriber I had to remain within 2 zones.

As for the N.A release, they are currently offering Closed Beta.

  • QuizzicalQuizzical Member LegendaryPosts: 25,507

As best as I can tell, this game isn't in beta anywhere.  It's released in some small portions of Europe, but most of the world has no access to the game at all, beta or otherwise.  Though it would seem rather odd to declare the game in beta in some places and released in others.

It's released, but american fanbois refuse to accept that, cuz it's not released in their area....

and for the topic... TCoS could have been great, but when I can't play with my friends.... Well, then a game starts lacking what makes me want to stay and play.

I'd like to correct those who claim that there are no game boxes. There certainly are boxes, in fact, I saw one priced 39 euro's yesterday at Dixons. I didn't buy it because it's obvious this game is DOA, but there are boxes out there on store shelves.

then for all practical purposes, its not really release. and thats why its a failure.

  • SigrandSigrand Member UncommonPosts: 367

Having played for a month or so on the EU servers I can say that the game does, in fact, change drastically after level 7.99.  It doesn't really kick off until levels 10 and above when you go to Quarterstone and Ringfell.  The Green District is just plain awesome.  The game can still survive if Acclaim manages to get this beta off the ground within the next few days and get the game actually released within a few weeks.  From what I gather their entire purpose of beta testing is to stress test the servers, seeing as how the game is already released.  It's true that the servers are basically dead on the European side but that doesn't mean that the NA launch, which incidentally has far more countries under its jurisdiction, will fail.  There are still a lot of players eager to try this game out.  They have made mistakes so far, admittedly.  The IP Ban system is just unbelievable.  Without that they could be bringing in money already and Acclaim would have most players transfer over after they launched for a better connection and more people in their timezone.  What's done is done, though.  I really hope that this game does well after launch because, as you can probably guess from my name, I think the game is amazing.  It has a lot of features not seen elsewhere and is really taking away a lot of the features that have been done to death in other MMOs while simultaneously introducing a few new ones that are long overdue.  Also, just playing the game has this very surreal feeling and when you actually do have people in your party it's a lot more fun than any game I've played in a long time.  By the way, to those waiting to play this, I strongly suggest you read the content of the quests and backstories that are given in the game.  They make everything so much more interesting and really help to immerse you in the game.
