Do you have a download cap on your internet?
So it's been confirmed that Darkfall will be download only at first, maybe with boxes to follow. I was wondering how many people have a download limit cap on their internet service as the client is a hefty 18 gigs apparently. Obviously this is going to eat up a big portion of some peoples limits or is maybe even far exceeds it.
Anyway here's a poll, it might be useful to factor this into any speculations regarding the number of downloads that will happen on release week.

Yeah thats the same with mine but I know a lot of packages in the UK have limits, some are as low as 4 gig per month.
The big question is how big is the client (has 18gbs been confermed). and how much HDD space you will need for the d/l.
Example: Aion client was 8.5GB's but you needed 30GB's of free harddrive space inorder to d/l then unpack it.

Yeah thats true, the file could be considerably smaller and the 18 is gig unconfirmed, oh well it will still give some idea.
HAHA, welcome to my nightmare. I'm in South Africa on what is considered a premium package and I only get 4mb download and a 3gig cap and I pay throught my arse for it. You guys with unlimited or high caps should go kiss your ISP today and be grateful for what you are getting.
18gig lmao can't even think of downloading this game then! Will cost me the same as a half a year subscription to WOW, hope they release a dvd version which you can buy, please please please!
If in fact the client alone is 18GB's then you may need around 60 GB's of free harddrive space to D/L & unpack the client. Then you can go back and delete the zipped files.

No worries mate, I'm sure some one will break it down into small packages of multi-files to D/L via rapidshare.

Same In Australia, every DSL plan has limits, and its extremely expensive. Lot of companies in the U.S dont really take into account the circumstances elsewhere in the world. Im ADSL 2. It costs me $100 a month for 25g...Thats the type of money we have to pay here to get a good connection and decent download cap, especially if you live more than an hour from a major city. If i gotta download 18g for a game, thats not gonna happen. My gf would kill me, and since I work online as well its just not practical. They would lose a sale im afraid. Even though I like the idea of no boxes, its a problem for a lot of people.

on a side note someone could make a lot of money making dvd's and mailing them out to peeps, Not that I would do that sort of thing.

Only those using a cheap ISP package have an issue of cap, in the UK at least. Though most ISP's still have a fair usage policy in affect, but any normal person can still use the net until their hearts content. Only spammers fall victim to the fair usage policy or those who are stupid enough to constantly leave a bit torrent running 24/7 all month long.
i have a 150gb cap. I never get anywhere near it, but with now that my isp is boosting my speed to 15mbps from 10mbps for free and astrawebs 270 day retention, it looks like i might be hitting that cap
Its good that your brought this up. I think what we should do as the MMORPG community is
1) Split up the d/l on raid share/megaupload
2) Burn the DL on to a DvD and send it free of charge to people.
I'll be willing to do option 2 if I end up buying the game. I'm kinda broke ATM so I may not buy it when it launches.

What was very nice was when I wanted to play Sword of the New World. They have a DVD version of the game available which you could order from a external company, I think it was 5$ to have it posted to South Africa.
I did wait a bit for it, 3 weeks but the excitement was waiting for it to arrive. Checked my mail box daily rofl. If I had downloaded the game it would have cost me about 20$ raped my cap for the month, so then I couldnt have even play SOTNW. The cool thing as well is that I made copies which wern't illegal and gave it to all my mmo friends to try as well.
Another problem that also arises is what happened to me with PW Int. I was downloading the game client and my computer bombed. I was using a download manager so wasn't worried until I found out the server didn't support resume. SCREWED and my cap wasn't enough to try to download the game AGAIN. This has also happened with other games when I have downloaded the client and it is corrupted. Because of a low cap limit there is no trying twice
More MMO games would have a bigger player base if they had a DVD version of the game available which people could order and try in low cap countries especially f2p games and if you don't like it hey it was only 5$ to try it. Not even half a carton of cigarettes for me

I thought their publishers were dvd producers? I'm sure in addition to a d/l option you would be able to buy a dvd direct from them.
