I have an ATI HD4870 that has a tendancy to overheat. I have the fan speed manually set higher in the CCC software but for some weird reason it turns off the manual fan adjustment option in CCC all on it's own and if I don't notice the card temperature rises to >60C and I'll get VGA driver restarts then bsod.
As I'm now tired of this and either considering replacing the ATI with an NVidia which doesn't seem to have these problems or adding a 3rd part cooler to my GPU. I have no issues with my CPU, it stays around 35C as my Articv Freezer Pro seems to work just fine.
Any recommendations for a GPU cooler and are they easy to install?
Thanks.

3rd party coolers are all relatively difficult to install. nVidia also has this problem as most of thier cards sit at 60c. I recommend the Zalman cooler and some zeroTHERM memory heatsinks.

If you like you're aTI graphix ( boo ) try looking into some water cooling, that is if they make a waterblock to fit your gpu on your card. Some times they'll sell a whole watercooling kit, with radiator, tubing, water blocks for the cpu, north bridge, video card, etc. so you'll have your whole computer cooled drastically, not to mention throwing away those stupid loud fans!

Arctic Accelero TwinTurbo might be worth checking out as well:

Been very happy with it, although on NVidia
Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
Odd. I changed my CCC to 55% manual fan and it works like a charm.

Real as Reality Television!!!
90% of the time it works but I think there's an issue with the 64 bit Vista version of CCC as the software corrupts and the 'Overdrive' options completely disappear. Plus a 55% fan speed is pretty noisy.
I've read a few of the reviews and I'm going to go with the Zalman, people seem to be fairly satisified with the option and it's supposed to be a lot quieter than the original fan,
Thanks everyone for you help.
