1) there will be a public beta starting the 22nd. don't like it? don't buy it. there will be tons of reviews.
2) they stated they were deliberately trying to keep the hype around the game down.
3) they are a small independant developer, obviously they do not have the cash to front up dozens of servers right from the beginning. as they said, in plain english, they cannot cope with the demand at this point.
4) every major MMO released in the past has had releases delayed.
see you in-game on the 22nd.

It is not a public beta. A public beta means anyone can play. Tasos said there will be a limited number of spots. And that some of the people who signed up for beta will not get in.
no, 'public beta' means a beta version that is open to the public.
Excuse me, Perlftwin13, this is Adventurine. The correct term is "Free trial" okay? Trial! Not Beta, trial! We're not paying you to spread incorrect information about our game.
You hope!
"Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free"
Note the emphais word. Thousands. Doesn't say tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, but thousands, which implies less than 10K.
If I was Aventurine, I'd carefully chose who I let in, and I'll bet they have a pretty good idea who the faithful are.
Maybe you'll get lucky, but odds are against it.

None of that is fact until it happens.
Yesterday there was a 'fact' that the game is releasing on the 22nd of January 22nd 2009.

not get in.
Depends on how many really will be playing and if there limitation is a que to server or amount of keys given out at day 1-release is less then amount of players who would like to test.
To take it even further, Tasos called this a Trial/tryout, not a beta

Actually the word used was "trial". It's free but he doesn't say anything about the NDA being lifted or not. The meaning of open and closed for me, is not who that may enter but what they can say about it.

21435 players can be called "Thousands of players" to.
Its a way of expression.

I agree, open beta is open to members of the public (not necessarily unlimited numbers) with no NDA.
Heh... for FACTS... you made a lot of mistakes.
1) Show me in the update today where it says:
a) public beta starting 22nd
b) there will be tons of reviews
2) They also stated they didn't believe in doing pre-orders... so Tasos's words aren't really worth all that much as it stands today.
3)Yup... this one is correct.
This was also correct in December when they pushed it back to the 22nd of Jan. They would have gotten a lot more slack if he'd owned up to this sometime BEFORE the 15th of Jan.
4)I doubt this is correct... but even if it is... now Aventurine gets to be lumped in with all the others. Yeah for them, so much for being different.
Oh... and I doubt we'll be seeing anyone in game on the 22nd. The vast majority will never get in to play unless they decide to pre-order the game to "guarantee" themselves a spot at Release.
If you spend a little more time thinking about it you will notice that the difference between trial or open beta is the least of the problems here. The reasons for the delay has it second:
- Demand for Darkfall at launch could be much higher than expected. If this is the case, we need a different process to better handle the demand.
This would also mean that even the 10k cap wouldnt be enough to handle everybody interested in the game. What do you think will happen at 22th? Everybody goes on a site, tryes to register, grab a client, log in, whine in forums for help and voila the whole thing goes down in a 2fps lagg shower. As such i find the OP is a bit beyond sanity when writing "see you in-game on the 22nd" even though i like the way he tells everybody to BUY the PUBLIC beta.

2,000 players can be called "thousands of players" to.
Suffice it to say...
Some will NOT be getting in.
Actually, if you'll reread what The Tasos wrote, you'll see that he specifically used the word "is".
This was on the official forums lol www.youtube.com/watch
And what is the meaning of the word "is"?
I suppose next you're going to tell me there is a stain on a blue dress?
That was pretty funny...
What is a shame is that an MMO needs to grow and develop over time to become a success (and I am not talking about monetary either). Problem is the majority of gamers who bounce around titles don't give a company a chance to show what they are capable of. I just bought LotR's online because I want a change from AoC's busy combat style. I am really looking forward to DF but decide I will give it a good 2-4 months before jumping in. The facts are:
A) There will be major patches in the first 2 weeks
All the moaners would have joined and left after 2 weeks which qualifies them to spew crap about the game for the next 3 years.
C) Less players in the noob areas and more spread out meaning better performance when I come in. If anyone joins on the first day and complains about lag just remember you are probably in a starting zone with 10,000 players.
Give the company and game a chance. The industry desperately needs a game with an engine like this to succeed. Maybe then the big players will stop spewing out WoW clones.
While I agree with you on most of the things you stated and I certainly wholeheartedly agree about the industry needs to change. And I applaud the original idea of the DF and even give kudos for the effort. But what I can't stand is the way the asshat devs and their blind faith flock are handling the entire affair.
From Tasos and his complete arrogance and spin tactics. To the over zealous fanboys who either gloat about one thing or another or cream their jeans with whatever tiny morsel they get tossed their way from Tasos and his cronies.
This game with all it's promised features(which no other major company has done by the way) and the company that's developing it, (with it's horrendous track record of smoke and mirrors) warrants high skepticism.
Yup I mostly agree as well.
While I don't be-moan anyone who enjoys playing the EQ clones... sometimes something different is nice for a change of pace. More choices are good for all of us.
I too am one who usually waits a few months for the initial hub-bub to die down. I did the First Day Release thing for MMOs 10+ years ago... I'm over that stage.
Frankly I don't see what the big deal is. The explanation given matches up with all the currently known info, and makes perfect sense: they were behind schedule because of the holidays, and cannot meet current demand, so they have to delay. So what?
The amount of whiney children around acting like drama queens and prophets of doom is hilarious.
So...
When Tasos says the game is READY to launch on Dec. 4th and that it is Feature Complete before that... that matches up with what he said in his update?
When he said that when they give a specific date there is no way they will not meet it... that matches?
When he said they couldn't support 200k players... that wasn't true in Dec.?

It also doesn't imply anything about how many at one time. It just says thousands of players will be able to sample the game. We will see what the 22 brings....

Bah, this is easy.... the people that will be let in are those that have preordered and who are willing to sign an NDA.
