I'ev been playing for about 2 hours now, level 18.
For the first hour I loved it, I decided that this game was my full-time game.
But it got boring after a while. Its like a medevil version of PSO. Well atleast thats how the content is baned
[ Get party, keep going on these missions.] Which I dont dis-like that idea.. just I dont know.. I dont like it in this game for some reason. As far as leveling its extremley easy. Lvl 15 is more then half way to the maximum level and I already gained 2 lvls, just about another day and I'll prbably level 20. I dont know if the level cap is at 20 just because its world preview, or its double exp, or i dono. As far as items / loot go.. is pretty cool. I like it how they randomize the loot. But I dont really like were the shop is...
But, I'll definitly give this game another chance if EQ II and WoW suck..
only reason why I say that is.. if GWs isnt released soon its going to be competing with Eq 2 and WoW.. which I dont think it will get much attention.

I agree with your perspective. The missions remind me of a boring offline RPG, that isn't very indepth. The multiplayer aspect is what makes it alright, but so far in the missions no one really talks. It doesn't seem like there is much to do in this game as the ability to wander about in the world has been removed.
The PvP is alright. So far it has been all 4v4, and sometimes the slow loaders spawn when the rest of their team is dead. I'm sure PvP will be more fun once you get into the game upon release, as you have your group that your with, and they might have tournaments and all.
In a way I'm glad I didn't fall in love with this game. If I had, playing WoW when it finally comes out wouldn't have been as much fun as I'd be longing to play this game. It'd seem as if I'm never content, always waiting for something better.
I played the event for a few hours on Thurs/Fri, and that's it. I already deleted it.
I've only played it for a few hours but I'm not too impressed so far.
Starting out was decent enough, you're presented with a quest and an NPC would sometimes run out and ask for help along the way. I thought that was a nice feature, it sure beats hunting down NPC's to see if they have a quest at your level. As Goob mentioned, you can't really wander around much - you're forced to follow predefined paths which seems to make it easier than necessary to find the mobs you need to kill or the NPC that you need to talk to.
On the other hand, there are areas you can explore but the area I found seemed to be an instance so there weren't any other players there. There also weren't many mobs there so a lot of running around was required. One nice feature is the ability to hire NPC henchman to help you hunt if you can't find a group. I had a few henchmen with me (warrior and archer) but 2 or 3 lvl 12 mobs pretty much handed our asses to us lol. The archer and I died but the warrior rezzed me after he finished killing the mobs (which was kind of a cool thing for an NPC to be able to do). The only problem is that I wasn't able to rez the archer, the signet can only be used once per instance or party so I guess that means you can only rez one person in the party. (???)
Anyway, I continued to hunt with the warrior and it wasn't long before I died again. While lying on the ground I discovered an interesting feature, you can double-click a party member and look around from their point of view. I then discovered a bug, I was able to make my corpse slide around on the ground. It's too bad noone else was around, it was kind of funny. I couldn't find a way to "port" back to town or even restart the game so I just hit the "x" in the upper right hand corner.
I imagine they'll work on balance issues and possibly add more mobs as the game progresses but I didn't care for the gameplay. I like the idea of instances but they seemed to take it too far. I also like to be able to explore at will and interact with other players more. I think the only time you see everyone else is in the main town or outside of the larger instances. This game really limits where you can explore and I dislike being limited to certain pathways.
Guild Wars is good enough to kill an hour or two here and there but I wouldn't make it my main game. I played WoW during the first stress test and it was much more fun and has a better interface IMO.
I wish I could really get a chance to check it out!
The game does not run very well on my computer. It will run fine in certain spots and I will have a little fun. But then I will hit a spot where it freezes for about 2 mins and then comes back or its just very laggy. I have no idea what Im supposed to be doing because it froze so much I missed the intro.
At times it even gets so bad my computer reboots itself, maybe I will try the game when i get a new PC, but for now...........no good!
i like it but they do need to add some new stuff.more of everything will be better. even a new race.

Which FF Character Are You?
Yeah, too little content, but what did you expect at this point of development, especially since I bet there are a lot more areas, we just had no access to them?
That which is there, is A TON of fun! Damn, I really love this game!

I made a lvl 20 warr/monk, lvl 20 elem/mon, 20 Ranger/necro, and an 18 monk/elem. And theres a few things I think need to be changed fixed or added to this game before I would even consider buying it.
1. Interface is to simplistic. I would like to see a "paper doll" of my character with a listing of his min/max dmg, armor factor, resists etc..
2. Need more skill slots. There is way to many skills to choose from. I suggest at least 2 more(making 10 total). I hate having to leave behind so many skills going into battle.
3. Ranger pets should not give the ranger a death penalty for dying. This is retarded because pets are far to weak to be paying all of your attention healing them.
4. Because of the ability to tke 2 classes, some HEX spells should be fine tuned. I forget the name of one, but it drains 5 energy for every time you attack. This is borked and needs to be removed or fixed.
5. Need a way to block these dumb spammers
6. Need an ability to remove and kick a party member out of a mission(by this I mean boot there butt back to the start city where you get a grp to enter the mission). I don't know how many times we brought along a monk henchman for heal support while some idiot thinks it will be funny to go afk while the monk is "attached" to him.
7. As well as #6, the grp leader should be able to assign a henchman to follow a person in the grp.
8. Hammer line needs a bit more then knockdown styles.
9. Ranger "rituals" need to be looked at. If im going to suffer 5% penalty for every ritual I cast, that ritual should be permanent.
10. ALL skill costs need to be looked at. Its simply unuseful to use a skill that costs 25 energy to fire. It may do alot of damage but your only option then is basic attack which is weak. I should be able to use several skills in a row before i get low on energy.
11. #10 should help balance out the problem of the overpowered warrior monks. I know, I have a lvl 20 W/mo, 20 R/N, and 20 Elem/Mo. The elem and warr monk have all lvl 20 gear and the ranger has lvl 17 gear. And Although I find the warr/mo very boring to play, hes extremely powerful. Only in certain situations do I lose (like where im being beat on by the whole enemy team).
12. An Auction System would make things SO MUCH easier. Searchable by item and price and buy it straight from the auctioneer. Please give us something.
13. Item drops should be slightly increased. I hate doing an entire mission and only getting 1 or 2 drops.
And finally
14. There should be a law where stupid people should not own a computer
I created a few different characters, experimenting with the Primary job, Secondary job combinations. I explored several of the maps, and completed a few missions. I was really hoping for more than the linear style that I came to find in everything. If ever there is something that would resemble a fully realized 3-dimensional version of Diablo II, I'd have to say that I found it in GuildWars.
I'd be hard pressed to call this a MMORPG, at least in it's current form. The maps appear to have so much more freedom than they really have, which I found a bit disappointing. I found drop rates of various materials to be a bit slow, and I ended up having to crawl through some of the "Explorable Area" maps more than once to gather Gold and Crafter materials, and still didn't come up with enough to get my first FULL set of replacement armor so that I wasn't a total clone of every other player out there.
Customization was extremely limited, but I will admit that the character models look superb. I found some Primary job models to have more customization features than others, especially the females. It reminded me a lot of Lineage II, another NCSoft product. Take the Necromancer for example, compared to the Ranger female.
A lot of the weapon drops I was finding were worse or only slightly better than my starting weapon after about the third mission. It was getting very aggravating to me that I wasn't able to step up my damage for melee characters except through new skills. Same with my caster classes, I had a difficult time trying to find a weapon that enhanced anything on my character more than the starter weapon. I normally work on trying to improve my gear from the start, no matter what MMORPG I play, and I think most people usually do.
Aggro ranges were a bit ridiculous as well. I'd see an indicator on my map for a cluster of monsters, but even after waiting for the cluster to disperse, and attempting to pull just one or two targets, the ones out of reach would somehow link with the rest, and the party would wipe. Aggro didn't seem to make much sense in the game, the monsters would run from target to target, and it seemed all the classes could somehow draw the "hate" from a mob without effort or a desire to do so. While I like a game with a fresh take on various matters, there are some conventions I like to see MMORPGs stick to. A tank being able to maintain the hate and keep monsters off the casters is one of them.
All in all, GuildWars just seemed like more of a fun way to pass the time, and was not very compelling, at least in it's current condition, as a real MMORPG. I'd love to see GuildWars down the road, with more depth added, but right now it's just to limited in it's vision for my tastes. I guess this comes from NCSoft's ringing in of the new MMOWarPG ideal, where games are more focused on the PvP aspect. It seems to be a theme in many Korean based MMORPGs, especially with the competitions for money and prizes that seems to have garnered so much attention as of late. NCSoft is also notorious for putting out games with a lot of artistic talent, but very little content. Hopefully, the team behind GuildWars is a lot like City of Heroes, and they continue to add new content instead of resting on their laurels. There are bigger competitors out there that will swallow GuildWars whole if they don't.
It is a good game. I would call it more of a "cute" game because it is very much like Dungeon Siege except for the PvP aspect. It to about 6 hours to get to lvl 20. It lost its fun factor about 2 hours into the game until someone showed me the gladiator arena. This part of the game was a blast and highly addicting, although I still see the game being a short term fun verses a long term primary game. I would almost buy this game strictly for the gladiator arena part as that was a lot of fun and would give me about a month fun factor. Oh well, hopefully they add something to give the game that "warm fuzzy feeling" that MMO's are so popular for. Otherwise, it will be a short lived career for it. My 2 cents!

Didn't enjoy it.
Too much like playing a singleplayer game. Too much instancing, not enough content/mmo-type interpersonel interaction. I really cant see how this game is going to make it with such harsh competition.
Then again I have a friend whos' been mmoing with me since EQ went gold and he loves it.

Dude, this is the intention of the 8-slot limit. Someone in a preview already moaned about it, and seriously, if you change this, you are gonna break any balance which is there so far.
The limit has three functions:
1.) Allow casual players to come _very_ close to power players, because while the latter have more skills, they also can only take 8, so they are only more flexible, not more powerful. And only more flexible BEFORE entering the mission, not there-after. I know this will get many people to turn the game down, because they want to be "l33+" and "pwn", but to hell with them, hate them since DAoC
2.) Make sure than no matter how many time people have invested into a certain character, they cannot leave a certain "bound" of power if they don't speak with their group-member pre-entering, making powerful inter-character comboes.
3.) Allows for a high-level of strategy. While tactics, how you fight, is in near any PvP-game, strategy is mostly exclusive to some RTS'es, nearly every TBS, and some other, rare games. Guild Wars has strategy! Do I want my Mesmer to make every Caster I encounter freak out majorly? Or do I want him to be better against Melee? Maybe some power on more direct damage and DoTs even? What does my Monk part do? Healing? Smiting? What balance between Mesmer and Monk I take? And what does the other Mesmer in my group? Will be work in tandem? Or each for himself, one debuffing and then nuking, one DoTting and then healing?
Seriously, the Skill-system is powerful, unique, and cool in it's current implementation. Fresh air for sure, and takes a while to get used to it. And just to be clear: I freak out every time I have to "choose" too, I would love to take'em all. But seriously, it would hurt the game majorly...

i had a beautiful time playing guild wars this weekend....the pvp was fun, and i will and am going to buy this game; i dunno how the game will be after its first month of release, but atleast i dont have to pay to comeback and check and i think thats cool....i'm already subscribed to like 3games and wow and matrix will be coming out...
i kinda liked and hated the deal with the 8slot of skills, it makes you really think about what you NEED for yur upcoming battle....the skills seem really phat...
yea....i was that guy using EoE=P

Let me guess..you were a warr/monk? lol. Having 2 more slots will not break any more balance. As you say..it will just make them more "flexable". The skill system in this game is in very much need of fixing. I know there is suppose to be a limit. If there wasnt, I would be asking for more quickbars to fit all my skills in. The fact of the matter is, only being able to go in with 8 skills is very "repetative" because there are always 8 skills I used for PvE and 8 for PvP. Those never changed. The fact of the matter is, this doesnt allow for "variety". The only thing this does is restrict PvP to being the same thing over and over. I never changed my skills every time I went into PvP, unless I got newer skills. I dont see how allowing 2 more skill slots wil make it unbalanced. Every same class has access to the same skills, the only difference would be level.
I really enjoyed playing this game. Cute graphics, nice ideas and gameplay. Unfortunatelly I didn't try PvP, cause played about 4 hours due to work. But it's good for me so far. Would be another opportunity if WoW won't make me fun.
As it was noticed before - would be good to have some "doll" with armor slots and dmgs etc. And I haven't seen any pointers on map pointing to party member when you choose one (of course not critical, but would be nice).

I played a Mesmer/Monk mainly, which of all the combinations I tried (Me/Mo, Mo/Me, Me/E, Mo/N, Mo/E, Me/W), was the one where I had the hardest time fitting everything into 8 slots. Still, I think 8 is enough. For some of the longer PvE-missions, I can see your point. Maybe splitting them into two would help, or at least making a "stop-point" half through the mission, where you can change your skills once.
And I had nearly never an attempt with an ideal skill-set. Maybe that I was alone with that, but I did speak with my group before, duking out who takes which skills, who focuses on what, who takes which job.
It makes for new skills every fight, and then comes the uncertainity - is the enemy more caster-based? Do the Casters even have their offense-skills? Or just the support stuff? Do I take Cry of Frustation to stop them? Or Chaos Storm to help in static situations?
I never experiences what you describe as a "static" skillset. Of course, I tinker, mix, and re-match all the time, adapting, group-adapting, experimenting, improving...

i liked ths game a lot. for some reason i like being in a guild. and the comments on "its not a real mmorpg". arenanet is not trying to make a standard run in the mill mmorpg. they want to be different.
the 8-slots does serve a purpose because you have to anticipate for the situation.
this game is going to be great i hope u all play it.

gayness.. That's the best word to describe this game. The graphics are very good but, the magic classes look pretty gay. Races? you get human, faces? you get to choose from about 5...
Thumbs down...

i love it , there is only one thing i hate , the solo missions , you can cut that out ... thats crap ...
if you have to meet people to play , makes it much more adictive and makes it more hard to raise level , no combat for solo players minimum 2 i would say and no bots for missions ... no bots for anything , the vilagers are ok , but defenatly no bots for teams ... go humans only , is what makes a good mmorpg , human interaction IMO
another thing , small space for so many people , i dont like the district thing ... all people should be able to meet in same world . or have diferent visual aspect all those places .. not just a number in the name.

I'll throw in my two cents here.
I've played both events. The first event I was very disappointed with the game play and the interface. I loved the graphics though.
When the second event roled around I gave it another shot and was very pleasantly suprised. The interface seemed easier to function in and the content was better.
I'm pretty sure this is a keeper. Must be since I will be pre-ordering tomorrow.
My only hope is that more of the world is opened up for exploration, as it seems a tad linear with areas I can see but not access. I also hope this game remains playable to those of us that like to solo and explore, instead of caving in to the power gamers who have ruined every MMORPG I've played to date, with the exception of CoH which is still playable for us solo players with a real life who have limited play time.
Perfect! I agree with you there. This game was a lot of fun and it felt well paced for non-grinder gamers. I personally was just having fun with it. I also enjoyed having npc party members to help out my friend and I. We didn't have to worry about joining up with someone who didn't fit our play style and we were able to use TeamSpeak to chat while we played... making all decisions without someone we don't know jumping in. I'm telling you, it was a great experience!
Screenshots and videos are necessary for first impressions, but what you can't see in them are the things that matter the most.
so...
Because of this you don't like the game?
Sorry but you are pathetic...

haha yea he's pathetic ^_^..... well neways this game is a awesome game, i hope on getting the retail version ^_^. im just glad that this game doesnt have p2p in it, because i play on and off most of the times ^_^.
i can see your point in solo playing , i was mad just becose i wanted to meet people and started a mission without knowing that it was possible to play with bots ... so i was trying to chat with the bots .. and all ...
but yeah i can agree with solo playing , i can always not use it ...
