Is this game even released yet? I saw on their webpage there's a link to download the client, but at 3gigs I don't just want a beta version. Is it the full game?
Having Acclaim attached to this does not give me much faith in the product...
It's released, but american fanbois refuse to accept that, cuz it's not released in their area....
and for the topic... TCoS could have been great, but when I can't play with my friends.... Well, then a game starts lacking what makes me want to stay and play.
There are a couple hundred different mmos "released" right now in Japan, China, and other places that most people here know nothing about. Do you see them all listed here? No? Maybe it's because they have not been released in this market. So for all intents and purposes in regards to the NA market, the game is not released.
How did you know that about Scandinavia? Im from there and im playing. Weird!
!
And when you subscribe and leave the starter area... then it will become even worse. As the handful of people that are currently subscribed are scattered all over the place that you are completely on your own from there on.
The game can still survive if Acclaim manages to get this beta off the ground within the next few days and get the game actually released within a few weeks.
If it was F2P game with item mall - maybe, but for P2P market it lacks... something. It just does not get you addicted enough I suppose, and once you are gone from P2P game, you usually are gone for good, when with F2P game you still poke it now and then when you get bored.

What it lacks is a strong community. While I can agree that it does seem to be missing a little something, I think that whatever it may be is cancelled out by the fun of the game when you have a group. I started it with a few friends and when we got together to quest or grind PEP it was a lot of fun. Also the game has only just been released. They have another significant update scheduled for the end of the month and have already touched on the topic of adding the arena system and mounts throughout the course of the year. I think it will have a few rough months ahead of it when it does launch in NA but if they can get through that they can still make it work and build a strong player base. When it launches in NA and the servers hopefully become populated to the point where you're not alone all the time the game will get a different rep all together. I haven't played it in a few weeks because an mmo shouldn't be single player and I got bored of doing things alone. The game, however, is fun even if you are alone, allbeit a little annoying at times. For me, though, a major part of these games for me is the community. People that enjoy playing by themselves would love this game on the EU servers. Anyway, I haven't given up hope on this game just yet. If it should fail though, there's always Darkfall(assuming it's not a scam lol) and Mortal Online to fall back on when they're released.

I think most MMOG's reach their best point after a year or two. If nothing else, TCoS should be considered as a game worth checking out after they get a few more features in.
A person who hops from new MMOG to new MMOG will probably never see a feature rich or bug free game. As anxious as we are for new experiences, it really is in our best interest to wait. The delayed NA release was probably the best thing that has happened to TCoS.
There are a lot of MMOG's that are just now starting to hit their peak gameplay experience and I am glad that I put off playing some of them. CoX is starting to show its age, but still competes nicely as a group oriented game. LoTRO and Eve are just now reaching their best days. D&D Online was a huge surprise to me. Despite its recent demise, TR was just starting to reach the point of being a great game. A lot of people seem to be rediscovering Vanguard as well. Even AoC has its launch woes behind it and is one helluva game right now.
Right now the sheep are literally flocking around Darkfall. We KNOW that it will have some serious rough edges at release. Give it a few months after release and I bet it will be another great game.
Seems they didn't market this game good. I never was interested to buy this one. But some time ago I really was surprised the boxes were in the store (Belgian shop, Free Record Store, if people are interested).
"didn't even knew it got released" I told my girlfriend so double checked it to see if it wasn't a pre-order or a fault or so (they had Jump to light speed and Tabula Rasa still for sale aswell ).
Now I don't follow everything in the MMO world but I'm really baffled that a release like this game can go unnoticed.
The loot in the game comes in the form of resources. A lot of broken items are dropped and you can get a recipe to reforge them from the blacksmith by trading the broken item and a small amount of money. When they implement the Auction House system in the coming weeks/months the resource system will really take off and the game will gain a little bit of that fun while searching for items. Even if they are only aesthetic the items are still fun to collect to customize the look of your character. There are also sigils to be collected. Let's not forget the promise of shard conquest too, that they stated would take place during major updates where they introduce new shards and the player guilds contest with the npc race on the shard for control of it. That sounds like it will add a lot of depth to the game. The game is still new; don't be so quick to write it off. Within a year or so, I would think, assuming it lasts that long, the game will be one of the best out there. It has some rough spots, as do all games at release, but the team that develops it is devoted whole-heartedly to improving the game and creating the most enjoyable player experience they can.

The game isn't played much because it's not that good. Stop hunting for more complex answers. Being released to 2.5% of the world population isn't complex, its a simple fact. LOL There's no loot. BIG drawback, sorry. There's nothing more fun than the anticipation of any random mob in the world dropping a nice item you can use. Ever played CoX? I would guess not since you're saying this. Sigils = Loot The difference being that its not in the form of weapons and armor. There are plenty of ability, deck, PeP, and visual upgrades to keep a player feeling like they are progressing. The PvP is ad-hoc and meaningless. There's no stroy-driven reason to fight, and last I played there were no rewards tor doing so, either. Not everyone plays MMOG's for PvP. Also, WoW shipped with less PvP than TCoS. All they had was "/pvp". There is a great foundation for meaningful PvP in TCoS. The various houses can have some great story driven reasons to fight other players.
You may not like the game and that is fine, but don't be so simple minded to assume that the game won't be enjoyed by a great many people.

Game was marketed ( as limited marketing as it was ) and designed around, PvP. So your argument makes no sense at all. Why wouldn't the people play TCoS expecting PvP?

Whether or not you are expecting PvP is irrelavent. The game is what it is. A lack of solid PvP won't be a factor for many people. Its silly and narrow minded to call the game 'bad' simply because it doesn't have your favorite feature. As a fan of PvE I didn't care much for Warhammer, but I totaly understand why its a great PvP game.
I've only been following the game for a few months now, but it seems clear to me that its primarily a PvE game. Do you mind showing me this marketting?
I am downloading the client now, but doesn't surprise me at all that has few players.
Just found the game has been released because I told myself: "Let's check how long until TCoS sets a release date". Sure, I don't use to hang on TCoS but somehow I always find when a new mmorpg releases without looking for it. Even here it is under Future releases category on main page!
Well, reading meanwhile the avaliability threads, not sure if I will be able to make an account from Spain (Haven't seen the box on the principal game stores that use to have almost all mmorpgs).

The game has not been released in Spain. So, you wont find any boxes in the stores, apart from the fact that Acclaim is not planning on distributing boxes.

RIP TCOS
What countries can you actually play this in?
UK is in the EU but not considered so by the publishers?
This whole IP blocking thing reeks of "we cant handle many players" to me.
I find it all very odd, surreal in fact.
Small firms can't do MMORPG's this and Darkfall prove that point.
Online gaming is awful at the moment, pitiful boring easy mode crap.
Still isn't EQ 1 and DAOC going to do classic servers?
TCOS isn't played much because not many can play!!! nuff said Gnite
