    Thats because you have issues...
    I have a dozen people DL'ing it right now.. The SPeed is very Sparatic and will be for hours while ppl start connecting.

    But if your behind a firewall thats your problem.. its a Torrett file.

    And -- is there a way to control the settings on this mutant torrent client that blizzard created? It is being a total whore and sucking all my upstream. Is it possible to open the torrent with another client?

    So if I download this, will I be able to play the game, or does it need a closed beta username/password? I'd hate to spend all that time downloading for nothing. But thinking about it, why would it be open beta if only the closed beta people could get in? Hmm.

    Anyone know?

    It uses a pseudo BitTorrent client, which means you will be using your ENTIRE connection when you download...

     

    There is no way to change your MAX upload, or download. (well, not in the program anyway). So... that means you are uploading while downloading, which means ur connection is pretty much used up. Browsing the net will be slow as hell even on a broadband.

    If you disconnect, it SHOULD pickup where left off. It is, after all, BitTorrent style and should cache(store) what you've got...

    Things to be aware of:

    1) Your IP is viewable to anyone you are uploading/downloading to/from. Doesnt mean much since in a few hours this file will be on their page probably...

    2) This thing caps ur upload in seconds... and since not many of us are downloading, you download slower than upload... And it will be like this until much later in the day I imagine.

    3) The link above was to a small program(460kb) that connects you to the actual file... ie: its a client that connects you to their server.

    4) I wouldnt be suprised at all if this thing gets knocked off the net and they change its location so we all cant download without getting a new client download.

    5) I need to post more.....

    Yep, just saw something mentioned in the FAQ about there no longer being a connection speed option in the Blizzard downloader because 'Upload speed is optimized automatically'. I guess that means it eats so much of my upload that I can't even make new download connections *laugh* I'm sure it will even out at some point though.

    As for the person who indicated that the blues said this wasn't the real client download, if you are referring to this:

    then that was a comment made on the 29th, about a DIFFERENT file. Lemme know if you have other information.

    GUYS!!!! THis is not the OB client...Blizzard WILL have OB sign ups before OB starts....People like myself who where in CB will have a chance to DL first, but this is not even the client for us to DL...

    LOL cause it's just the installer....it links to the WRONG client...i'm sure they'll get it up soon though.

    I don't know about this installer.  However, it seems real, considering the site it is coming from.  It's not like it's on somebody's homebrew WoW fan page.

    In addition, you are wrong about the CB getting to DL first, at least according to the top news item on the WoW homepage.  Here's a snippet of the item.   "While our initial plan was to offer the stress test client for download to closed beta testers ahead of time, this is no longer possible due to the extensive maintenance being performed on our servers."

    I think this is good.  No reason for CB folks to get a chance to be in OB early.

    Someone who is in CB just go follow the link and tell us if it is the same one as at the beginning of this thread.
