Hey,
I'm looking for a PVE game to entertain me as Darkfall will satisfy my PvP needs when it comes out.
I understand that DDO is quite an old game now and was hoping for some advice as to whether a UK player should roll on the EU servers or if the US servers are populated enough at odd hours for me to go there?
I know that DDO hasn't got a huge playerbase and as I'd be coming into the game very late I'm concerned about the population of the EU servers.
Thanks!

Best bet is to download the trial and check out the server's yourself, but still a good idea to ask here as well, I live in austraila so don't have much intel on euro servers, but when i started, I ended up having to change servers, when I found out that there was an all Aussie guild, you should ask about finding a UK guild on ether server's, (US/EURO) best bet there would be to check with Turbines DDO forums, anyway nice choice in game to play, good luck and hav fun.
Thanks for the advice!
I've already downloaded the US Trial and its installed on my machine waiting for me to get home from work and try it.
Think I'll just guage how many people are around, and figure out if I'm comfortable with it before bothering with the EU trial.
Sadly the EU Forums don't seem to be open to the public/guests like the US ones do.

EU Servers (only 2) have healthy populations.
You can create a Codemasters account and join us on the DDO EU forums without having to have a subscription.

Hey Synika, I too was waiting for Darkfall or TCoS or anything new to come out. I tried the LotRO trial and felt very 'meh' since everything I did in the game was either boring or used rehashed WoW mechanics.
One day I was looking over the translated abilities from Aion. I noticed that the Assassin class didn't even have a lockpick ability and that stealth was a 30 second buff. I was sorely dissapointed and it got me thinking about the old days when a sneak class had not only stealth, but disarm for traps, search for secret doors, and lockpick for locked doors and chests. Where did RPG's take this turn for dumbed down systems where everyone is either DPS, Tank, or Heal? When did dungeons lose their puzzles, traps, secrets, and locks? When did MOB's lose their hearing?
Its all in DDO. Its honestly the only MMO I have found that isn't dumbed down too much. So far the greatest weaknesses I have found in DDO is that you're almost forced to group and that it won't be as replayable as many games since there is only one set of content available.
I agree to a certain degree since it's more relative to the character you've made and the type of player you are. Soloing is very accesible prior to level 8 and there are some players who've expressed they have solo'd the content up to level 16 although I would assume it took them a very very long time. Repeating the content is part of the design and with most of the dungeons and areas being do damned cool and fun to play through I find it extremely hard to not want to repeat the content. Don't get me wrong, there are a few mechanics that are based on repetition (ie, Shroud) although you do not have to focus on them to enjoy the game. My guild has many capped characters and players who still have quests they've never experianced.
I solo a lot of the higher level content and have done so with teh lower level stuff as well. The content I find the most difficult to solo are in the ranges of 8-14 although this is due to the characters I create and how I like to play them. Even then, I prefer a pick up group (pug) over soloing the content any day or time of the week.
Hi there Synika, I play on the EU servers and they are busier than they have been for a long time. There will be no problem whatsoever getting groups on either server!!
You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.
You may be surprised by how replayable it is. The characters are playable in so many ways due to enhancements and feats and the build choices that you can create pretty unique characters unlike almost any MMO out there.
Lets take TR and look at the limited skills and the extremely limited choices in a build. To me since even the so called "support" classes in TR were so good in combat it made the replay factor low since the classes all kind of played alike. Three main stats and small skill pools lead to almost all characters in the class being vry much alike.
DDO you can play a fighter and I can play a fighter and we can choose so many different things starting from your beginning stats and going forward that we may end up with two fighters so completely different that it not for the title of fighter you would not know they were the same class.
It is the builds and the choices that brought me back after almost two years away. There is simply no other game that lets me make such deep choices in my builds and allows me to create a character rarely if ever seen and still make him effective and fun to play.
DDO has the best stealth stuff in the MMO genre. I have a Wizard/Rogue and you can do some pretty cool stuff.
The problem I have with DDO, even though I am still subbed, is that I actually really like to solo a lot of the stuff, but its just prohibitively slow/expensive/unrewarding. I also group up and what not, but that is simply nto the same experience. No one wants to wait around for you to do cool stealth tricks.
Anyway anyone who has a more than 100 posts on this forum who hasn't tried DDO is cheating themselves and is frankly just going to be ill informed about the genre. That doesn't mean they should resub after they try it .

I would agree with this, both about TR being limited in its RPG aspects and in the replayability of DDO because of its build and playstyle differences.
Also the gameplay is more frenetic so replay is less boring than a game like WoW or LOTRO.
However it can be tiresome after a while, especially in regards to grinding favor. And the Dead levels of 7-10 are a problem.
