World of Warcraft: Closed Beta Ending

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

The official World of Warcraft site has posted that they are going to be closing down the beta servers tomorrow (Oct 29, 2004) at 3PM PDT.  Here is the official word from them:

The closed beta test is coming to an end. This Friday, October 29, at 3:00 PM PDT, the closed beta servers will go offline as we prepare to run another stress test. All active closed-beta accounts will remain active, and closed-beta testers will be receiving an email with instructions on what to do to continue playing in the stress test.

We will post more information about the stress test in the days ahead, so please stay tuned to WorldofWarcraft.com.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank the closed beta testers for their months of dedicated testing and hard work. Thanks to all of your suggestions and bug reports, World of Warcraft is closer than ever to being ready for launch!

In unrelated news, we will be bringing the beta servers down today at 6:30 PM PDT for maintenance. We estimate that the maintenance will last for one hour, and when the maintenance is complete, we?ll bring the servers back online. Please keep in mind that this is an estimate; should anything unexpected arise, we?ll post further notice in the Server Status forum. Thanks for your patience.

So, a second Stress Test for just closed beta testers? Sounds like a new fancy name for the closed beta. My guess is it's a way to delay OB, but still sound like they are advancing the games progress.

I hope I'm wrong, but it all sounds a bit shady to me.

Yay!! I can say i'm very excited to hear this. I played the stress test and loved every minute of it. I think it is crucial for Blizzard to at least get the open beta started before EQ2 comes out. I know there are tons of people teetering on the edge of EQ2 or WoW and getting the open beta started ASAP would definitely help out WoW. I haven't played EQ2, but from what i've heard it isn't ready for release and that it's being rushed. I guess we'll all find out soon who the victor shall be.... ::::20::

I think they're starting another closed strest test.

    Soon(!) open beta..

Whatever they're doing, they'd best do it quickly....I stopped in to EBGames yesterday, and they have a release date of November 16 for WoW. Not a lot of time for them to hold any kind of beta, open or otherwise anymore.

the release dates on ebworld are always unofficial unless the company announces it.WoW is only RUMORED to be released on that day.

Neither EQ2 nor WoW are ready for release. I have been in the World of Warcraft Alpha and Beta test for the past 11 months, and the game has come a long way, but it is nowhere near "complete"! Blizzard has promised many great things such as PvP Battlegrounds, PvP Honor, summonable Infernals for Warlocks and new abilities for Paladins (who have hardly gotten any new spells since the first Beta push), and massive Raid scale quests. In addition, some very basic things are incomplete - out of the 8 races in the game, the only one with racial abilities is Undead. (which is almost more disadvantage than advantage - Priests and Paladins have many anti-Undead spells)

While the Alpha and Beta have been going on for a very long time, this is only Blizzard tradition; its not much longer than the Warcraft 3 : The Frozen Throne beta test. I'd been hoping that unlike other MMORPG makers, Blizzard would release a game where all of the major features have been thoroughly tested. Unfortunately, it appears that Vivendi is pushing Blizzard to release the game before it's really done.

BeeNetter - level 41 Troll Rogue
PiousFlea - level 22 Undead Priest
Seek, Behold, and Reveal the Truth.

I'm so tired of waiting! Does anyone have confirmation that the stress test will be closed? If I can at least get into another stress test, it'll help with my craving for open beta. ;)

Dont you get it?!?! WE can also play image its a ST for all the CB players AND every other downloader. its just to make it esay for the CB players/

From what I have been able to gather from other people in the Closed Beta this upcoming "Stress Test" is going to be the open you all have been waiting for.

Just that all the CB players will still have there characters, which is good becuase according to blizz when the servers do come back up there will be a patch. And since all the CB spread the range of character levels it will allow for some good testing.

My only complaint right now is that the forums are down over at worldofwarcraft.com, cutting off any way of getting more good enough until Monday.

Well, i have played WoW, EQ2, GW's, and alot of other mmorpg's that are coming out. and so far WoW still has my vote. Im a lover of pvp. the other games just dont compare to what i might find in the future of WoW. granted i'd like to play. but if playing now means i'd be playing an unfinished game, i think i'd rather wait. ;).

I think it's probably going to be like the first ST.  They'll probably let in the CBers and the fileplanet subscribers first.  I really hope that they're not going to give the CBers any more handouts than they already got.  My pet peeve is blizzard's love affair with the stupid CB testers... I hate em all.

aww the hate, I can feel it from here.

Not sure how this is going to work, its still "closed stress test" my understanding was that it would be invite only.

The characters are on servers named Beta, Beta 2, and PvP. If you have participated in the earlier stress test you kown those servers didn't exist. So that means distributing the active characters to new servers? Honestly I' can't say how this will go.

The closing of the beta test was definintely short notice to the community.

As for open beta, I'm bettting on 3-5 days total and thats it. And officially this stress test is NOT open beta. (got that from a blizz employee)

as for the mentioned missing talents for hunters/pallys they go in today, along with most of the stuff that is missing, however most high level raid type content is being officially withheld from the game and won't be released until release.

The "Hero" classes are like that also. Gotta save stuff for release to keep beta testers interest :D

Only 3-5 days for OB? What makes you think that? I'm curious because it seems (to me at least) that most MMORPGs are holding longer open betas than that these days. Both Lineage II and CoH were about a month each!

It appears that both the publishers behind EQ2 and WoW are pushing their release dates. However it seems that the progress is going insanely fast in EQ2 now with huge lists of fixes etc and great dev response. I'm very very happy with the devs so that's handling EQ2.

Main reason I'm not going WoW though is probably due to the "B-net kiddies" :/ Never have I heard so many nasty things about peoples "mama's" than I have lpaying Blizzard games.

    Cheers :)
