That's the last slap in the face from blizzard I'm gonna take, terrible and somewhat false advertising followed up by a money grab. Think I'm gonna stay with a company who doesn't try stealing your wallet every time you turn around, long live Dark Age of Camelot, or EQ 2 at least they told people there wasn't gonna be an open beta instead of advertising one then making people sign up for fileplant in order to make money off of it. Better Buisness is gonna have a field day with this one.

I dont have fileplanet. But I have no problem with wow giving fileplanet users a closed beta. If you think about it they probably would have opened the open beta at the same time as they are doing now anyways. They wonted to give a week open beta and its two weeks out from when it would be ready. Why not get some extra moola from fileplanet to do something that cost them nothing but a good stress test. If this means that they will be more successful as a company and put WoW in the black more its a good thing not a bad one. Think about it if WoW is good money then there would be a sequel. Plus if you dont pay for fileplanet your not the one giving up the money in the first place.
Now with that said. Im pissed that they will let them keep there accounts when open beta starts.

Let me just say AGAIN that it is NOT Blizzard who benefits from this. It's Fileplanet. It was Fileplanet's idea! They're the ones who want to get some money out of this.
I wish people would stop griping about Blizzard in all this. They weren't advertising anything falsely and they haven't done anything wrong to their "customers". They're not trying to steal your wallet either.
All you people just get so excited about a game that you can't think straight. I've been really anxious for this game, but at least I can still look at things realistically.

not even close. sure fileplanet is making money, but its pretty obvious(from WoW's own admission) that blizzard is making a killing here as well.

It's funny how your mind is reversed. Blizzard knows how to run a business, they know how to make easy money (Business : Something intended to make money). Y'know like I've stated in a previous post in this thread, you would have been in Bliz's seat.... would you have missed such a good occasion to make money? NO! Why would you have missed that occasion, there is NO reasons. oh BTW, you think SOE isn't trying to steal you money? Hey man guess what, welcome to 21st century, ALL companies in the world wants your money.
Not to mention unlike other games you've stated, Blizzard can LISTEN to their own community.
I just dont' see how the Fileplanet thing is such a great moneymaking thing for Blizzard. If they get anything from the paid subscriptions generated by this deal, it's going to be a pathetic amount. Given the time that this game has been in development, Blizzard is really needing it right about now.
All you people that are whining about this have to realize one thing. Blizzard probably can't handle the bandwidth to provide downloads for everyone wanting to get into the open beta and run the game. In order to bypass this, they use another company to handle their downloads (I.E. Fileplanet). I'm very sure that fileplanets operational costs are not completely covered by the ads that are provided on this sitem, therefore they need additional income to keep in business. This download is the exact thing to keep them going. If you want in the OB earlier pay the $5 for a fileplanet subscription. Otherwise wait. And for all those people saying Blizzard is as bad as SOE, let me know when SOE FREE OB is occuring.
do you really think blizzard is just throwing fileplanet a a few $100k out of the goodness of their heart? to take a page from your book, look at it 'realisticly'. fileplanet is getting paid but not the majority of the money.
anyway..i dont think its wrong, supply and demand. noone is forcing anyone to buy the subscription.

Exactly. Hence, it's Fileplanet working to make money off of this, not necessarily Blizzard. If Blizzard is making some money off of it (probably not much) who can blame them? They're probably operating on next to nothing at the moment anyway. They desperately need to get this game out to regenerate some income.
I generally don't see the point in paying for a Fileplanet subscription just to play for a few days when Blizzard said in the FAQ that open beta is starting immediately afterwards and that the ST is probably only lasting 5-7 days.
heh ... for those of you who are subscribed to fileplanet, are you still downloading the beta client through bittorent ? ... or are you getting it direcly through fileplanet.... bittorent is slow as hell for me right now .... 20kb per sec...
I can wait five to seven more days. What's another week instead of money. All you guys have fun in the Stress Test, and I will see you all in the real Open Beta instead of getting conned into something that is supposed to be free.
But all you guys have fun wasting your $7.50 on a game I will be playing in a week for free. HAH! What a waste of time and money.
i think most people can wait an extra week to play.
i would guess its just people who dont want others getting a week head start that mostly is paying(or trying, they say fp is all f'd up)
but regardless dont underestimate the ammount of money being made on this. its going to be a huge sum, a helluva lot more than anyone would pay a site to just host thier files.
and if they ever get thier website working right, ill quote you blizzards comments about this covering costs

I don't know why you guys fight. You know you're gonna cough up the dough anyway. And pretty much everyone has made up their mind that it's release will be delayed.
Besides, EQ2 is just soooooooo horrible. What other option is there? $15 aint that much anyway. So you don't get Dominoes next time you feel like it.

I see it in the FAQ. But it does say that they're just trying to cover costs of hosting and finally shove this game out the door. People are whining that Blizzard is trying to snatch their wallets. I hardly think they're trying to rip people off here.

To answer your question, we download it directly from fileplanet... which is worth the 5 bucks per month if you ask me.
The deal most likely was that Fileplanet would host their client in exchange for this week of subscriber-exclusive-ness. During the last stress test FilePlanet hosted it in exchange for 50,000 subscriber-only keys and since the ST was limited as to the number of participants last time... this was a good deal, because the 100k for non-FP-subscribers would run out and it was a good promotion for FilePlanet. But now, the OB has no limit on numbers... so how can fileplanet benefit from the deal? They get the week of exclusive-ness while blizzard continues Open Beta preparations.
Blizzard NEEDS Fileplanet to help them distribute this 2.5 gig client. Either that or everyone would have to use that horrid blizzard bit-torrent downloader and wait 2 days for their download to finish. This would likely drive off alot of customers who dont understand that this is for the beta only and Blizzard WILL offer other means of downloading patches come release.
Blizzard gets to use Fileplanet's distribution capabilities in exchange for a week of exclusiveness that helps bolster FilePlanet's subscriber base. Its business, and it makes complete sense.

I still say that this is a bunch of crap. Sure I can wait another week. I got my hopes up with the open beta sign-ups coming soon thing... but then I realize it was all a publicity stunt. I also realize that Blizzard is a business and Fileplanet is in it for the money.
I can almost guarantee Blizzard is getting something out of this. If you think that the privelege of being the ONLY pay site around to host what is arguably the most anticipated MMO launch ever, then you're crazy. (I'm using that figuratively, I don't really think you are crazy moukin). The way it looks to me is Blizzard and Fileplanet wanted a quick buck.
However, they had to know this would make their fanbase pretty mad. And personally I think it's a pretty cheap tactic. I'm sure FP will get a ton of subscriptions for this, more power too 'em. But, it still seems like a cheap shot to me.

sorry but this is wrong, Blizzard use the "Blizzard downloader" (Bittorent) witch doesn't take any bandwitch from Blizzard, it's peer to peer torent, witch means people share bandwitch between them.
Btw I am not whining about having beta sooner, like I kept posting this evening, I belive this was a wize idea Blizzard had.
The kiddies are just pissed cause they asked their mom if they could use her credit card to charge $14.95 on it, and they were told no.
Fileplanet is a good site, saved me a lot of headache looking for patches and such, well worth the $4.95/month I pay them for 2+Mbps download rates.
