It was a "What If" scenario invented by a poster here. There are no such known plans.

I seriously doubt aventurine will sell it to SOE, nor i doubt it has even been brought up.

SOE is the devil according to some. But they do undertake games that has been on the verge to extinct and make them "work" in their own way. So it it's a huge failure i guess it would end up a little like vanguard.

SOE buying Darkfall would be great for both of them.

It would give Darkfall some deep pockets and promotion to get the game published.

It would give SOE some good press by helping the underdog.

That's not going to happen. SoE has already gone down the path of buying a game before seeing it. I think they learned their lesson.

I agree that it wont happen... but for a different reason. SOE is looking to push PS3 and PSN, and this game was not developed for that.

For Darkfall and Aventurine it would be the second coming of Christ. While SOE may have their shortcomings, they showed commitment and ability to turn pieces of utter junk into semi decent MMOs and keep several niche games alive through their station pass portfolio.

Vanguard or PotBS would have surely died a long time ago if it wasn't for SOE, EQ2 went from a decent game into the best PvE centered MMO on the market, etc.

This would be the chance for Darkfall if it indeed is in the state everything points to. If SOE would buy another one of "those" games is another story though.

Official staff has denied any rumor that company  will get bought or any plans for that...but who knows..

Particullary $OE would be the end of any good game..

$OE has a long history in destroy any game that isn't developed by $OE..tho i heard they ruined even Everquest ..

...and for me a reason to leave this alone here and find me another not $OE infested place ..

If SOE buy Darkfall I preorder and subscribe at launch eyes closed.

Of course SOE would Trammelize the game after a year or two and ruin it, BUT I'm also sure SOE wouldn't buy a crappy unplayable DnL2 and would have correct Customer Support, Billing service, patching, etc...

Anyway, I'd prefer NCSoft, to have more chinese farmers to loot. :)

If SOE bought darkfall ; I'd have to buy a bigger bucket of popcorn !

It really depends on how " finished " Darkfall really is.   I would say if DF is missing most of the features that are claimed then it will probably be a good thing.

You never know. SOE could step in to help them with expansion in the west.

I doubt it... but it does make for interesting (if not entertaining) hypothetical fodder.

I predict if it happened, any combination of these things would happen soon after the purchase:

    1) Do a complete combat system revamp (they seem to love doing this), even though it's not needed or requested.

    2) Make the game "more accessible" (aka make it more like WoW), even though it's not needed or requested

    3) Insist "But the players wanted it!" when complaints arise about the unwanted changes in 1 or 2.

    4) Respond to complaints about the unwanted changes by doing another unwanted Combat Revamp

    5) When players complain about this second unwanted revamp, again act surprised and insist  it's what the players wanted.

    6) Add some variation of an item shop and/or Station Exchange

    7) Ultimately decide that the reduced player-base (due to items 1 and 2) does not warrant active development; set the oven on "warm-enough-to-keep-it-running" and then all but forget the game exists.

At least some combination of that would be my guess. Of course, I'm being facetious... but only partially. They do seem to love doing combat revamps.

LOL if that happened I'd kiss Darkfall good bye forever!!

No, SOE isn't going to buy Darkfall. That's a rumor.

If anything, SOE's got much bigger things to deal with right now, like the fact that Sony as a whole posted a $1.1 billion loss as a company, and they're considering massive layoffs and corporate restructuring. Buying Darkfall wouldn't even be on the radar.

No, SoE is not buying Darkfall.  It would completely go against the core philosophy of what Aventurine is trying to achieve with Darkfall.  The people who enjoy bashing the game will say "lol they've lied about everything else", but I have yet to see them go against the fact that they want to make Darkfall the way they want to and not how some company wants thwm to.

Not only that, but it would go against the reasons why SOE has bought other games in the past.

For example, SOE didn't buy The Matrix Online because they wanted to. They bought it just so they could pick up the rights to the DC Universe MMO. Vanguard was bought because it was Brad McQuaid's baby, and he'd struck gold for SOE once before with EverQuest.

They don't have a compelling reason to buy Darkfall, especially since right now, Sony's facing huge losses and is looking to retool their company from the ground up. Buying a small niche MMO right now would make no sense for them.

Not saying EQ2 is a bad game but this is the first time I've ever heard anyone say EQ 2 was the best pve game on the market.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I almost hate myself for agreeing here because as I've said in the past this is starting to smell too much like Funcom, I don't see how you make announcements about your release date without anyone seeing much of the game at all and even worse the few leaks have said most of the game is not working/not in yet. Note to industry if verything you plan to have at launch is not working please do not announce release dates.
