Being a long time lurker of these boards, it is apparent that a large number of mmorpg.com posters are just negative for sake of being negative.
The same posters heap derision on any game in development, the developers behind the game and other posters.
Then when the game is released they continue their vitriolic comments about the game, the developers of the game, and posters who appreciate the game.
There is no 'grand prize' for posting the most hatefull comments. People do not think you are a 'smart and savvy' person for being jaded and racking up large post counts purely consisting of derision and negativity.
Under the law of averages, tearing down any game in development probably does give you the chance to pat yourself on the back if the game turns out to be less than expected and/or advertised, but that is no excuse to continue.
Comments
Stop being so negative about posters here.
Suppose that person A thinks that game X will be great and games Y and Z will be awful. Meanwhile, person B thinks that game Y will be great and X and Z will be awful. Person C thinks that Z will be great and X and Y will be awful. Each game has 2/3 of the posters pessimistic about the game, but no poster is negative about everything. Furthermore, it's easy to alter this example to make the 2/3 fraction greater than 1-e for all e > 0.
I get what your saying and I'm also a lurker and have noticed the same things but isn't this also a negative post?
You are 100% correct unfortunately the great thing about being jaded and hateful is they can just make a wise ass remark and ignore the fact that the OP is right.
I understand it can be annoying but the best thing you can do is ignore them.
A lot of people come here when they are disatified with w/e game they are playing. Which makes this quite the basion of negitivity. It wouldn't be MMORPG.com without it tho.

So another post of negativity regarding those who post negatively.
I checked your other 4 posts, and they are pretty good. But this is definitely a negative post, so that means 20% of the time you are negative. Maybe be more positive and lead by example. Except for this little stumble you are doing a pretty good job
I do tend to post more negative things than positive, but I post alot overall, so I do post alot of positive things. Alot of my posts dealing with DAoC, FFXI, Stargate, Fallen Earth, and a couple of other games are 99% of the time positive. I think these games are great and/or have great potential. Games like DF or anything SOE touches I will be negative, if not, at least cautious. Some games deserve negative comments. And even in some cases I have posted some good things about SOE games (very rare but still happens). Like awhile ago I posted that if EQ2 wasn't run by SOE it would be my main game that I would play 15+ hours a day. EQ2 is a really great game, but the company behind it makes me mad. I don't trust SOE, never will. Given them 3 chances (EQ, SWG, EQ2) and each time they've pretty much made me thier B@#!*. I'm cautious when it comes to companies like adventurine. They have no track-record we can base your thoughts on. DF sounds like a great game, if they deliver on everything promised. The problem is almost every game last year promised about ten times as much as was delivered. Alot of people will be negative to games like Darkfall, just from past personal experiences with gaming companies without a record. I'm one of them.
Edit: This is one of the reasons I think that WoW became so popular (not liked, but popular, everyone knows about it). Blizzard has a very long record of making very good games. Although I hate thier expansions with WoW, the game itself is rather solid (just not my thing, not a carebear). If I had to chose between a company with a long record of very good games that promises very little for thier game, or a new company with no record, but promises everything under the sun. I will always choose the proven company. And well Adventurine does have somewhat of a record really. Tasos has been caught in several different things (I wouldn'd say lies, but still). And any game that makes you pay to just TEST the game out before release is a HUGE red flag for me. Stinks of SOE tactics
Tasos has stated that DF fan's have thick skin when it comes to negative posters....I tend to agree, even if i'm one of the negative posters
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
It's hard not to be negative when sitting in a sewer.
Bring us more games like DF and we will be less negative.

You might as well have called this thread; Majority of Internet posters are negative about everything.
The only places I've found that is not true are small communities, make that very small communities, as soon as your site gets to a certain number the more negativity you get. It's like love songs, if you counted how many sad jaded love songs vs happy ones, which one would there be more of?
(,,,)=^__^=(,,,)
When the only alternative to crappy MMOs is a game that nobody has seen, what would you expect?
Only new MMOs worth trying are the ones not even released, and their all made by indie companies.
There are a number of players here who have played a good number of games going back years.
They have seen lots of different rule sets and how those rules worked in practice as opposed to as designed.
I wouldn't say negative to describe these people. I would say realistic.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
definately a lot of negative posts these days, on a number of communities.. ive noticed and contributed.
over the years ive played a lot of different games and when i think about my experiences with mmorpgs, they're largely good memories... BUT, those good memories are several years old now. these past few years have been very bad for mmorpgs and i think most of this community agrees and makes that known....hence the negative posts.
warhammer, lotro, aoc, vanguard, eq2, requiem, tcos, atlantica, runes of magic, hellgate london, etc, etc...
ive tried all those games and if i see one more god damn yellow exclamation or question mark, so help me god. i refuse to kill another 8 zombies for some townie npc prick for a pair of sandals. WoW pulled it off because it was the first of its kind and it was somehwat of a relief from grinds that were ffxi and eq.. but NO ONE else has that luxury FOUR years later.
but the industry is shoving this crap down our throats and i have had it... and i read posts on here from othersl ike me that are bull shit and we are right to be.
go get your own 10 f***ing wolf hides and take those 2 def leggings you knitted with em and shove em up your ass. the occasional fun adventure is completely dimmed down by the 25 other yellow exclamations that sent me on a massive errand run to get coffee and donuts for the whole freakin village of npcs.
make me a game that involves some kind of excitement and adventure and i'll stfu and so will everyone else cause we'll be too busy having fun to post on here that everything sucks.

My experience is that a lot of posters translate 'I dont like this type of MMO' into 'this MMO will be total failure!!' Somehow they cant get it inside their head that someone else might like a different type of game then they do. You only have to check the reasons why some people bash WoW to see what I mean.
Most of the time they use their own MMO preference as some kind of proof for why that other game epically fails or is total crap. That loads of other players really like that game, gets conveniently ignored. Or worse, they are called idiots for liking it.
For me its simple, a game is good if people (not just me) find it entertaining.
Every single game listed on these forums was called a failure by somebody, before, during and well after it got released. Every single one, including the huge and decent financial successes.
Darkfall is about to get released. The followers of this game have been quite vocal against almost any other game listed, the way those games played, their communities, the mental capability of the people they were playing it, skill involved and so on. They are so uterly overhyped, so "out there in outer space", than no matter the state of the Darkfall end product is, they will get disappointed. And when they do, the real shit storm will erupt.
The hate is inevitable I'm afraid. What will follow the release is quite obvious, there is nothing that can compete with the perfect mental game each of us have into our mind. And since the game managed to unite some of the most jaded and hate-filled people on the gender, expect nasty things to happen when the reality of what's technologically feasible hits them on the face.
Hate, derision, negativity? Nah.
I just don't buy into the hype and B.S. that DF is.
I have never seen so much smoke and mirrors before, it truly amazes me.
DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness
This is true, and it is really sad. Up until WoW these forums were mostly for discussing games, how great MMORPG's could be, and a lot of creative discussion took place about the genre. Now it is just swarmed with so many negative trolls that it has garnered a horrible reputation across the MMORPG communities around the web. I remember I was in a guild of 114 people from multiple nations and ALL of them despised these forums. There were actually only 2 of us that posted here.
It is really sad. I love this site, and these forums. I love the writers, the admins, and the people who run it. There is nothing that can be done about the community though. They have become so 'elite' with their trolling that they just push everyone else into not even visiting this site now.
i weigh approx 160 lbs - 170 lbs at any given time, im about 5' 10" tall. thin build .. always have been thin, cause ive always been a very active person. so, that kills that theory that im negative cause im fat. ive never had self esteem issues, ive always been a confident person.
theory two, im negative cause im a troll... well, since i joined this site in nov 2008 .. ive accrued 10 posts after this one? wow big troll lol. thats like 3 posts per month so far or so. the only reason i come to this site is to check out what the latest titles are and see when betas will be starting for various games. i dont even look at the forums unless i see a post on the main page that catches my attention.
so two sound theories on negativity in one day ... lol.
something more realistic perhaps: i still think the negativity is direct result of so many releases that were disappointing. still to date, eq and sb are my personal favorite titles... after that WoW was good for a about 6 months before i quit. WoW released nov 2004 ... so since spring 2005, i have not found a good game to play with all these new titles. and you think im negative because im fat or a troll? lol... i want a good friggen game to play and then i will stfu and go away from these websites lol.
