Hey, we need some new types of mmorpgs, so here's an idea for you all : a boat-racing mmorpg, with fully customizable boat shape, power, etc. Feel free to post other ideas or continuations of ideas!

Oh dear god.

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
how's about a MMO with Turn-based Combat, like FF?
oh wait.......
A MMO where everyone starts off as a God and your goal is to lose all your powers to become mortal.
Ooooh, let me guess, only way to lose someone is cutting thier head of with a sword... You know, this idea do seem familiar.
No, I want a historical game, maybe about the crusades or some other intresting time after the fall of Rome. No magic whatsoever. Or the US civil war, or the Vietnam war... Anything that never been done before. Something that is neither fantasy or SF.
I'd play a Cthulu game too.
How about a game, where the developers set realistic goals, and do things one step at a time and make sure everythings works well and is fun instead of having a ton of things that arent that well designed. <run on sentence
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

That didnt come out correctly. I meant to say `lose all your powers`. lol.
May be a bike race instead of boat race, you buy a bike and race people around you, win the reward and upgrade the bike. something like that maybe intersting

An mmo set in a huge city with an steam punk/fantasy team. That would be great.

An mmorpg where you play a frog, and you jump over logs, or run between traffic. You can call it frogger.
You could use little kids, instead.
And call it Social Darwinism.
I think they have one ... it's called Neocron.
*Thinks about it... and.. faints*
Now that idea would be just plain silly! What are you thinking...MMOs about fun....sheesh...some peoples ideas are just plain crazy!
We don't need better ideas, we just need better development and standards.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
NO! NEW IDEAS ARE EVERYTHING! We must not be bored by the same stuff everywhere, just bored by different stuff in the same place...uhh, wait, what?
What we really need is innovation within the genres we already have.
I don't think a boat racing MMO would be very popular. It lacks the RPG element and the Massive element.
Multiplayer Online is all you have left. Sci-Fi and Fantasy are the two genres that really go well with MMORPG. We need innovation within those fields the most.

LOL ...
When would people discover that NEW != better. Execution is a lot more important than throwing out half-baked *new* ideas.
You put too idiots in the room for 3 hours and you can generate a longer list of new ideas that would tank for the rest of your life.

What if it was a well-executed boat racing MMORPG? What if, due to its limited scope, said boat-racing MMORPG didn't cost much to develop and still made tons of money (percentage-wise) off of 10,000 subscribers? Would it still be a terrible idea then?
How about an MMO that took place inside a prison. You start off by customizing your character and your starting stats and skills are based off what you choose to be put into prison for. Your goal is to work your way up the social ladder with unique classes such as "somebodies bitch", "crackhead" and "jailhouse preacher".
lol, that could be fun
A new sci fi mmo more encompassing than any before, including intergalactic warfare with massive fleets of battleships, dreadnaughts and the like, hackable bases on planets you land and fight for control of for real benefits to your empire such as resource production or the ability to build certain land vehicles, infantry weapons, or starships. Open galaxy PVP. A massive galaxy to explore and conquer!
I would actually play that.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.
-- Herman Melville
The Boat Race thing might be good for a room-based racing game. Something like Hydro Thunder Online or something of the like. It's just not quite a massively multiplayer sort of thing.
I can recall mention, once, of an MMORPG in which players are put into the role of one of many wild animals on an island continent. Their role is to play as their animal, which could be recent animals or perhaps sorts of dinosaurs. You would play for a while, living your life, eating, socializing with other animals, and so-forth, until you eventually die. Then, after you die, you are put into another role.
Another idea is a game set in a universe that runs on Rule of Cool. Being able to build yourself a robot pirate armed with a rocket launcher that fires sharks would be all sorts of amazing. Using it to drop a giant boss which is a sentient moon would also qualify.

Playing: Nothing
Played: Champions Online, CoX, STO, PSO, WoW, lots of free-to-play crap
Looking Forward To: DC Universe Online, Blade and Soul
Time travel MMO, you can travel between eras at certain waypoints in the world, you could fight in medieval times one day, sail the seas as a pirate the next, explore the frontier of the old west after that, make a name for yourself in the current era, then explore the frontiers of space and whatnot in the future, depends how your in the mood to play. Be cool if it was all one server too, sandbox type game.
Yes, keep posting, since all of your ideas are good in their own way. Perhaps we need just one big racing mmo with different types of racing, i.e., boats, bikes, jets, etc. Yeah, that could really work.
