Installed Lotro Again...

DeaconXDeaconX Member UncommonPosts: 3,062

So, after a huge hiatus I've decided to log back into LOTRO due to being incredibly bored and the fact that I have a lifetime sub I might as well use... damn it's a massive install/download hehe

I was even half tempted to buy Mines of Moria digitally right now, if only for the LEGENDARY WEAPON stuff...

I have a level 50 captain on Landroval but I hate halberds and I wouldn't mind getting a legendary two handed sword... but I haven't purchased MoM yet and may not depending on how everything goes.

I'm thinking of trying out the CHAMPION.  You guys think it'd be a waste of time and I should just stick with my captain?  I'm probably going to use two handed swords for Champion if I do make one...

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Mines of Moria is an excellent expansion to a good game. I would go ahead and get it if you find you like the game, still.

Thanks - in all honesty, I'll probably be going back to landroval mostly for the RP community :)

I havent seen a lv60 champion use 2 hander on my server for ages, I recon it was only me. I have been looted many lv60 or lv59 2nd age stuffs but never got anything for champion. Have seen once in AH about a 2 hander sword lv55 2.6 speed cost 6g BO, it is not so insterting just to level it up to desconstruct into relics. Otherwise, only junks for champions.

Currently, leveling 2x 2 Handers 3.2 speed, it is too slow especially there are many mobs or connection lag makes 3.2 speed like 6.4 speed. It's even a rare drop for a good 2 hander 2.8 speed. I dont know how long I am going to use this one. If the game does not increase the drop then I guess I may use the same weapon for least  3-5 months.

May as well to stop 2 months and reactivate my account later.

Champions rarely use 2 handed weapons so my advice is to stick with the captain. Captains got a huge boost in MoM and have become alot more fun to play and usefull with really good DPS. 2 handen sword is a pretty good option and you can choose whatever legendary weapon type you want.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Awesome - thank you kindly :) I think I will stick with my captain and maybe level my 34 Elf Hunter up see what that's like at high levels... A friend of mine won me over - she convinced me to get MoM so... I'm really hoping I'll enjoy the game thoroughly.

Do you get to choose how your legendary weapon LOOKS as well?  Are they crafted, is it a quest line or does everyone get it like some gift from the dwarves? Sorry for the noobish questions - the 'Legendary Weapon' was a huge selling point to me...

Gag, stick with the captain, as already said they are much better now, and I've had many play the role of Main Tank for all the instance bosses on normal and hard mode.  There are a billion hunters already...why add another to the pool, cause if ya want to be useful in the instance grinding a good captain is more valuable than 2000 hunters...hehe

    No you don't get to choose what the weapon looks like, they're all very plain looking it seems to me just like everything else you've come upon before from 1-50.  You'll start with one a few hours after getting to the gates of Moria...then once inside Moria they'll start dropping like candy falling from a pinata.  The major difference in them are the basic stats they start with once identified and then new ones can be added every 10 lvls. {You'll understand once you see how it works in-game...}

You can rename them and add you're own additional damage types to them like +dmg to orcs, or +light dmg etc.  Once you get inside Moria and find the Forger and Relic NPCs, you'll see how it all works...its a really neat system.

That kind of makes me sad.. sounds like you replace the weapons for 'better ones' just as much as before 'Legendary Items' were introduced and the upgrade system is a lot like the rune system for weapons in Guild Wars... and you don't get to choose what your weapon looks like?

Just saying if I were the devs, I would've let people choose from a whole array of what the weapon looks like and that would be your weapon from then on... your 'NARSIL', if you will - and it only gets stronger from there... ah well, hopefully it won't actually be as disappointing as it sounds

i personally enjoy the legendary weapon system. there are different levels for them as well. i think 53, 55, 57 and 59 are the levels. once you get inside moria, the mobs will drop rusted dwarf tools and khazad tablets which you will use to buy the weapons. ive enjoyed it so far, hope you do to.

I'm thinking of coming back to LoTRO as well after a long break. This is the second thread where I have seen somebody say that Captains got a huge boost in MoM. Since my main was a Captain I'm interested what kind of buffs did they got?

apparently the guy who was in charge of the systme realized that it just wasn't working well and essentially was just not fun.

So he went back to the drawing board and came up with this systme. There was an article on this site about it.

I'll have to differ on whether the weapons look good. I saw a Second Age Two Handed Sword that looked amazing. Even my 3rd age sword looks ok though it doesn't really inspire.

What happens with the weapons is that you will get a lot of them. You then identify them and what attributes they have. You can then either level them or deconstruct them. You can level them higher and then deconstruct them as well.

What then happens is that you get runes, gems, etc from them. You can then combine these for more powerful runes, gems that you can then add to your weapon or item.

So it's not as rare as one would hope in a role play sense but you can customize your weapon within the rules of the system. I actually got a very cool looking 3rd age sword for guardian yesterday but it didn't have the attributes that I wanted so I deconstructed it.
