They're doing a closed stress test AGAIN for WoW :/ This time, there's no lottery for spots. IF you subscribe, you have a spot in the stress test AND open beta :( And Fileplanet will also be doing the open beta keys as well. Those crooked bastards suck :( What happened to the good old days when Blizzard handled all beta applications themselves?

SOE makes decent games that appeal to nerds. Their customer service is run by jocks who bully nerds. Wonder why SOE sucks so bad...

Well, there goes my subscription to WoW. Unless I get a free month with my game purchase, I will not subscribe to WoW.

I wanted to test WoW before making my final decision between WoW or Ryzom...

But now, seeing the way they are trying to make you pay (you've got to pay Fileplanet to get the stress test) to participate in open beta test... I know there suppose to be a open beta after the stress test 2 but we definatly wont have the time to really test and see what it has to offer. I wont be playing WoW.  Blizzard are now on my black list of huge cie that dont give a ... about their customer/future customers.

They care about their customers, I can say that. The issue here is they are getting paid from FP I'm sure, and VU pressured blizzard to use this route. I'd bet my house on it. VU is all about making money, and not about making good games.

I payed 1 month fee just to enter a closed beta game! There is no big money involved that you pay! And besides, you dont need to stand in lines anymore! Just dont buy that pack of cigarettes or that cool looking magazine with a cd included!

  • boutchboutch Member Posts: 37

Money is not the problem. The problem is i wont pay for a game that is asking to pay to test the game for them. Its just plain abuse of the hype around WoW. They know people are going to pay, why make it free ?

Acting that way shows why Blizzard have done an MMORPG and why they have done everything possible to raise the hype, money.

Subscribe now for an opportunity to join the World of Warcraft® Final Stress Test and play the game one week before the public!
In the Final Stress Test, you’ll have one week before the Open Beta Test starts to play the game, create characters and go on the most amazing adventures! And the best part is that your characters from the Final Stress Test will be transferred over to the Open Beta Test!

This is what fileplanet exactly says. You guys are getting the wrong idea about this whole thing. Once the stress test is over, anyone will be able to play in the open beta...or at least whatever the 'public' means. The only reason to get a subscription for fileplanet would be to be able to play WoW beta a week earlier than everyone else who is not already playing it.

The good ole days are over, since this is an MMO and you have even the uber companies like SOE doing this as well. I guess companies are tired of kiddies using beta as the ideal approach to play the game before buying it, instead of actually testing the game and reporting bugs as intended.

Ya. Just now they make the kiddies pay.

This beta crap is getting out of hand.  What would Blizzard do if nobody signed up for beta???  Would they actually pay people to test their product like they should do??

I for one will never test a game for a company without proper compensation.  I realize that you get to play the game before anyone else, but at the end you have nothing to show for it.  When the game is released anyone starts out the same.

But I am kinda old so I'm sure most do not agree with me.

i think wow FP stress test is what triggered me "winning a mmorpg.com contest" for EQ2

either way i win EQ2 beta and when that ends WOW open beta

ummmm im wondering if theres some kinda national beta list thingy, i was even invited to beta test tickle marriage (wtf lol)

i wont pay unless i get to play first (waaaay too many crappy products out there to waste my hard earned money)

Blizzard has said even open beta won't be a true open beta. They said they will only accept all the applicants they need, then they will remove the account creation page and not allow anyone else in.

I think Blizzard needs to look up the words "open beta" again...

Well I for one can vouch for WoW being worth playing. this stress test just allows people that already pay for fileplanet for the downloads and exclusive beta tests etc to play a little earlier. I subscribed and have been in 3 betas in 2 months that I wouldn't have been in, and what this has done for me is,  I prepaid for WoW CE edition becuase its that good after just the 2 week stress test , I know I will probably never play Matrox online because it is truly crap and I don't see how they could improve the gameplay and look feel of the game without starting from scratch, and I got to play some really fun tribes for a couple months before its release. I understand people being upset about paying to test, but if any of you played EQ, AO, DAOC or AC or just about any other  mmorpg you were playing unfinished games that should have been in beta a lot longer if you played any of them at release. Not a fan boy but I know this is the future of games and its not going to change, bandwidth and severs cost money. its that simple.I'm d/ling my copy now hope to see some of you in there!

Fileplanet is the big dog on the block atm....all the big name games are probably going to go thru fileplanet and the free beta signs up r pretty much in the pass from the original publisher. Acouple r still out there not many.  Fileplanet is even taking over the patch service.

Well... Blizzard sold out to Vivendi Universal Games quite some time ago so i guess they're not the ones to decide stuff like this anymore.

Where did you read that? They have said that OB will be open for the public and will start right after the stress test. You'll get your chance to play whether your a FP sub or not.

I knew that another post like this would go up because people can't resist the idea of complaining at a good thing. If it weren't for FP no one but the previous closed beta testers would be getting into the stress test so quit your whining and grow up.

No matter how much these big game companies say they are doing it for the game and the love of the genre or whatever, there are still the big wigs that control the flow of cash and make the real decisions on what happens. From a business stand point, you can't really blame them. I'd also bet a huge reason FilePlanet has been such a pillar in the beta testing community lately is because of it's BANDWIDTH and HUGE customer base. If you had a 2 gig game that you need to distribute to 100k+ testers (where 75% wont even submit a bug), having somebody else foot the initial bandwidth bill, maybe compensate you for bringing in a new flow of customers to them, sounds like a really decent idea I imagine.

"Can I sign up for the stress test if I am not a FilePlanet subscriber?
The final stress test is only available to FilePlanet subscribers. However, the open beta phase will begin shortly after the final stress test ends, and is available to anyone with an Internet connection."

That's a quote from the Stress Test FAQ: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=496215&p=1&tmp=1#post496215

There was no need to submit bugs since it was only a stresstest.
