My Start of AoC Review.

My HoX is in level 35 in Wild Lands of Zelata. So fare I have had a very smooth ride. Content is good and I like that we get that close up of the characters when you take the Quests. It's a bit different from other Games and I like it. My PC in spite of just having 2 GB memory and a GeForce 8600 can cruise this game on high. Graphics, world design and Music score is unmatched in any other game I have seen.

PvP is a bit different and surprising. You might actually get jumped anywhere in this game. Unfortunately also when you take the quest. Luckily there is an unwritten rule about that not being acceptable. I have actually already been part of a hunting party looking for one very annoying guy. We got him in at the end of the night . But the PvP is ok in general if you have the possibility to call for help when people are getting too annoying. I also think it has a good deal to do about skill. Many of the Veterans have low level alts, and their toons are really specced in the best possible ways. Of course I will loose a lot. I hope I can pick up on this quickly though. So in other words the PvP is brutal, but I kind of love it already.

The combat system is spectacular. It is just so fun that I actually enjoy farming. Farming is normally very boring, but combat is so damn fun in AoC that I can never get bored of splitting skulls of whatever that comes my way. This is really well made. I think they adjusted combat some time back to even make it faster. Whatever was done, it works perfect for me.

Itemization is to me good enough. I got 2 really good blue drop right after Tortage. I also spent some money on the trader. Made a good deal of cash farming some Leather, so I could afford that. I think itemization is doing well. I have not had any receipt drop yet, but I think that is for higher levels.

Overall I am surprised that I have not seen more bugs or glitches of various kinds as everybody keep bitching about. Game looks finished up to level 35. Took me probably like 70 game hours to get to lvl 35. Plan to be 80 by mid March if possible.

Funcom spent most time fixing the early levels even tho they worked pretty good in the start, at lvl 50+ it starts to get a bit slower but now with the new content i guess it should be pretty much straight through until the higher levels 65+, as i dont play conan anymore i cant confirm this.

    hello there,

It finally let's me reply. So you have a weak Nvidia 8600 and you can play this game on High? That's crazy, I have an ATI HD 3870 and I can barely play WoW on MAX settings, the frame rates are dissapointing.

But I'm coming back to Age of Conan today right after this patch update in about 30 mins and I'll be level 80 in early march or late february, depends on how much time I get to play.

11 days straight can get you to level 80.

Yes my 8600 is doing a fantastic job. Have like 20-30 FPS in the worst possible districts. I have high setting, by pressing that "high" button. I am not running max resolution though. But I am up there.

Really? Your pathetic and laughable system then should really be sent to a paranormal institute for investigation in to what supernatural power is propelling it's performance to such astounding levels of FPS. HardOCP recently tested an XfX 260 Black model, and for those of you unfamiliar with this card it is basically a stock 260 OC'd a bit. This fantastic card can nearly compete with the highest-end cards and performs well in every new game there is.

    http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTU5NSw4LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

As you can see, this card, which is at least 8-10 times more powerful than that ghetto 8600 of yours, was barely able to pull 40 FPS, and dropped to a screen-stuttering 11 FPS at it's minimum. Now keep in mind that this was on a very powerful platform, consisting of a ASUS Blitz Formula mobo with a Core 2 Extreme overclocked to 3.66 Ghz. Also the "benchmark" that HOCP uses does not go through the most demanding areas of the game, but is rather an easliy duplicated circuit for testing purposes. So for an 8600 to pull those kind of frame-rates in that ghetto system of yours is really quite a feat, worthy of a Discovery Channel documentary to say the least.

Yet another FC dev spreading lies and misinformation on this board, IMO. Quite pathetic.

this will be 100 percent speculation, but your 3870 is probably raping your motherboard so hard that its hindering your performance to play,  that or  ATI and AOC in some ways do not get along, so there is more than one problem that may cause your game to run slow and clunky.

a 8600 can play to close to high settings, but not max settings i believe

( counting shadows, shader 3.0 etc etc....and my god dont get started about anti alias X4 and up)

the real beastily test is when you trying to play the game on max settings in a siege.......lol

try to do that, cpus will fall to their knees in pain..

Before you jump down his throat there little hater, you have no idea what resolution he is playing at do you - or all the hardware he has apart from the card.

On an average system with that card he could get 80+ FPS on a medium setting with some high stuff enabled on shader model 2.

Those tests were at 1900x1200 with everything turn on full. Including most likely 16xQ, you know the advance transparency no other mmorpg has.

Secondly he makes no mention of have it set to 4xAA 16xAF which are optional after clicking high settings.

Yet another non player out to ridicule players of the game - obvious the game has you interested, nice to see :)

Cracks me up why people like you hang around.

It's so funny to see people so quick to call someone a FC Dev if they enjoy the game and are getting decent performance.  I've been playing the game with an even more pathetic athlon 3800, 2 gigs of ram, and a 7800gt and get fps in the 20s with the default high settings so it's entirely possible that he's getting more than playable fps with his setup.  It is possible that they've optimized the engine since the time that you played, if you ever did.  It's also possible that people are enjoying this game.  I am.

LOL! Sure you are. I really believe you. Again, you and your buddy the OP should send these cards to someone for some serious paranormal investigation. You should also educate yourself a bit before you embarrass yourself with these kinds of statements.

Also "fps in the 20s" is hardly considered acceptable framerates. At that FPS screen tearing and stuttering will be blatantly visible. Anything under 60 I consider to be subpar, and while you claim to be pulling 20-ish FPS, that hardly takes into account your minimums, which is by far the most important factor and the most ignored by people such as yourself boasting X FPS on Y outdated card. Given your set-up, even if you were by some miracle able to pull a consistant 24 FPS average, your minimum FPS would be below 5 FPS. Unplayable.

The only resolution that could maybe peform at the levels you boast on that pathetic card, which was an average card at best when brand new 3+ years ago, is 600x480. So if you are a big enough moron to play this game at such a low resolution just to come here and brag about framerates, then good for you. Even at 800x600 the 8600 would struggle to handle those settings.

1900x1200 is hardly considered a high resolution these days, and is in fact the minimum that most advanced users run. The point is, is that even on a very high end overclocked system, with one of the best GPU's on the market, HOCP was able to only pull 40FPS. Personally, I never run a game with settings that can reach 40 FPS and consider 60 FPS to be the absolute minimum. And yes, I can see the difference. So some chump claims he can pull decent framerates on an obsolete system with a GPU that was meager when it was new, and yet you still blindly defend him and toot your FC horn.

Unplayable.

Keep hating.  Did I say I was playing with the high settings? no.  I related my fps with the high settings to show that the other FC Dev could be playing with high settings as his setup is better than mine.  I agree that fps in the 20s is not acceptable and play with the medium settings and get an average fps in the 40s.
