ok, we're making Elder Scrolls V now. What do you want in it.

What would you like to see most in this game (specifically)? Obviously we want a better story, graphics, and combat system. But, for example. how would you want the combat? How would you want the world? Items, spells, and skills? Miscellaneous details.

I'll start by saying, I would like a humongous world with no map traveling - eventually you can use teleport. I would like the npcs to be less boring. Enemies don't level up when you level up. I would like the game to place you in an wimpy enemy section at the beginning of the game, so that you have to work your way to harder enemy areas. There should be long plains as well as deep forests. Less mountains and giant hills all over the place. Controls should make casting spells easier so that you don't have to open the menu so much. Speed spell would be awesome, so that you can travel quicker. I would like to see hordes of small enemies that you can blast sky high with a fireball. Many enemies should die quicker. More blood and carcasses... Less long winded conversations. If you talk to someone and they have nothing important to say then the conversation screen shouldn't even pop up... or some variation of this idea. How about incentive to purchase weapons and armor as well. And better physics, and more interactive things.

Maybe a hotbar for spells and such ? and pretty much what you said.  Also, more variety in melee attacks, like if you click once it does a downward diaganal slash (left>right), but if you click again right after the swing it should do something like: a horizontal slash (right>left), ofcoarse it should stop somewhere like maybe after 3or4 different swings ? and some weapons should have there own "styles", and maybe you could like learn "styles"  or add swings to your style, maybe add swings only you wont, or maybe a 1 swing combo, imagine a Spear/Pike: *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* , and then your enemy, like, deflates from all the holes  in his body, leaking blood, mwuahahahahahah

Lol, sorry about that run-on sentence, just got carried away I guess.

Edit: Oh and online PVP. RP etc , ofcoarse, just make it more of an MMO from the start, instead of a Multiplayer option or something of that sort

NO COMPASS,  no fast travel, better quests, better story, mounted combat (it was supposed to be in Oblivion), LITTLE TO NO LEVEL SCALING/LOOT SCALING (hey all of a sudden all those bandits have the best armor in the game, and they're just as hard now as they were 10 levels ago!), and a non generic fantasy setting. Hmmm.. basically just make Morrowind again with a better engine.

I would like them to keep the bounty system in place, but other players will be able to apprehend you and collect the bounty. They should have it where low bounty characters should only be arrested, and high bounty characters are allowed to be killed out right.

In addition, if you commit a crime against another player a default bounty will be placed on your head for a certain amount depending on the crime. However, the victim will be allowed to put his own money into the bounty and up the amount however much he wants. This way if a player has a lot of wealth it makes them a larger target for theft, but if you mess with them the risk is a lot greater. So greater Reward, but it comes with greater Risk as well.

Of course a system like this would need to have some sort of death penalty to stop exploiting, because what is to stop a friend from stealing from a wealthy player who puts a bounty on him for 1 million. Then comes along his guild mate who kills him just to collect the bounty and split it with his friend. Perhaps a system where a percentage of your equipment is confiscated depending on the severity of your crime. Also assets from your bank or home could be seized if it is an especially large crime.

I dunno these are just some thoughts I had which could fit into the Elder Scrolls system. I have a lot more, but maybe I'll share some later.

3rd Person gameplay. I personally hate the lack of periphrial vision in fps games, the camera should be fixed relatively close to your character though to ensure a sense of realism. Better melee as mentioned above. Online arena fighting would be cool, balanced by arena only equipment of course. Maybe a different time setting, I am becoming increasingly bored by fantasy low or high. Guns would be nice, more realistic stealth aspects such as disguise and infiltration. More realistic assassination abilities(See Jason Bourne, Michael Weston). Less magic and more enhanced human abilities like telekenisis and psychic type abilities. Really, something new and less repetitive.

Why does this OP come off like hes part of a development team making a new ES. I do not get that and question it because his post comes off like that, but clearly we all know it is not a game dev because they would never open up a discussion here with a regular account and ask here before an official forums, btw which does not exist yet until they do start this.

True, the topic does make him come off like that, but he could be stating it as a hypothetical.

Although his actual post does not sound like a dev what so ever. He is just asking us what we would like to see, and he also states his opinion on what he'd like to see.

I took it as a hypothetical situation in order to begin in-depth discussion.

Don't expect to see guns, or anything extremely new in the Elderscrolls, most of the fans don't want that. Then again, most of the fans were screwed over with Oblivion catering to the console kiddies.

  • Tyres100Tyres100 Member Posts: 704

Yeah I kinda figured it was more hypothetical but I do not like hypothetical statements. It would be far more interesting if it was stated like a question to us rather then a hypothetical. I am picky I know.

We all know Elder Scrolls V is coming, what would we like to see in it.

I know, I dont really expect that stuff to be in an ES game, but maybe they could make a flexible enough of an engine to create other games with. As for the hardcore fan base, a lot of them gave in to the hardware demands and got 360's to play Oblivion on. How long are they going to enjoy the fantasy theme and time setting though?

Everything you mentioned, but there are three things from Daggerfall I would like to see returned.  One having the skill to climb walls, two being able to break into shops and houses and the third one is that if you upset the assassins guild they sent someone to kill you.

Now that would be awesome especially the Assassin's Guild bit. It would be even cooler if the Assassin's that are sent are players in the Assassin's Guild. Depending what threat level you are, they will send out higher ranking Assassin's.

I agree with kok_lily! I´d like to have a peaceful and more friendly behavior among the payers (does´nt mean no fighting). If it will be a mulitplayer game, I´d wish for moderated chats. It´s possible in many chatrooms to moderate them, why not in an MMO?

I also would like to be able to reach something in the game, without fighting. It should be possible to get a job and this job should not be just to reapair your sword. I´d like to become a famous tailor, good farmer or whatever, without having to fight to level up. And I want to be able to buy a nice house with the money and a horse.

The horses in Oblivion IV are a little bit boring. I´d also like to see better horses. More naturally looking and more different colours. There is a modder, who made better horses for Oblivion IV. I forgot his name, but the mod is on the IGN vault. I´d like to see this horses in the game.

Also more clothes would be nice. I mean clothes, not armour.

And yes, I am female and really would like to see a game with less fighting, really good horses and more clothes :D.

Yeah, it was a hypothetical question and I was assuming it wouldnt be online.

I would like it to remain 1st person... but if you go in melee attack it becomes 3rd person and the controls are like god of war or something like that...

third person for cut scenes and conversations or certain things like that as well.

uhhh, one last thing, Elder Scrolls V should have climbing like that one guy said and a fly spell would be cool too. And better/quicker controls.  Think about how Half-Life 2, and how it was so easy to always use the telepathic/throw powers, that made it much better than any telepathic powers in Mass Effect or BioShock etc.. Also, you shouldn't be wanted for murder if no one sees you do it

great job!! first, every charactor should has its advantage skill of its own. second, pvp setting should be fair. it means all players could choose it works or not..

I would like to see a move away from action bars to mouse movement symbols. An example woulld be making a perfect circle for a protection spell or as a defensive move. The more accurate the symbol the greater the strength of said move.

That way it is pure skill not items or levels that make or break  you in combat.  Skill level or adventure level would make the symbols easier to draw to get the maximum effect.

I also would like to actually try to put an item together with individual pieces rather than a button and bam the item is made.  An example would actually sew hides together for hide armor guiding the sewing needle through the hides. Also I would like to see all the compenents of an item count to its durablity. Like I have some dragon scale hide but I put some cheap buck hide stitching the result being the drtagon scale takes alot of damage but your buckhide stitching is falling apart.

Too many games are taking the easy way out of designing games the ideas are out there only if they would listen.

    - a far less dominant main story line! What made people come back again and again are the sandbox gameplay and player mods, not the main plot. I don't need to be the 'saviour of the world'. (Heck, I never even finished it in Oblivion while I played it for hours and hours and hours and in Morrowind I only finished it once)

    - being able to be a member of all factions of the game, including 'evil' ones like vampires, marauders, etc.; make them all have their vendors / leaders / potential questgivers and make is so that you lose reputation for faction A if you work for their prime competitor B

    - bigger, more diverse land mass with more islands and coasts

    - climbing

    - fixed mob levels but much more tougher ones to keep the game a challenge up to higher levels

    - more factions

    - an in some regards easier to use construction set

thank you - this is exactly what i was hoping for in Oblivion - but was obviously greatly disappointed

don't plan on following development or to buy the game since like Obliviion the new game will be squarely aimed at the same ADD crowd (360)

Oh god no! Sorry, good idea but I've already played a game like that and it was the ultimate pain in the neck. It was a fantasy game that came out a few years back. Can't remember the name but it mostly took place underground. Good in theory but it just didn't work in the long run.

Quite franky they could make it a bit of a mitxture between Morrowind and Oblivion. I like the action of Oblivion  but that fact that you didn't have a red arrow pointing out quest areas in morrowind.

Also, if they were a bit smarter about the level scaling of monsters and guards then that would also be better.

Keep fast travel. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it - other people however, may want to. Taking out an optional feature seems to me to be folly.
