They came back up for about an hour. The entire first 5 pages of threads were spammed with bitching, whining, and complaining. Almsot every thread was locked, then they went back down again.

The forums were apparently hit with a Denial of Service and their ISP is trying to track it down (from what I've read elsewhere) but then, yet again, we are left to speculate

can't remember exactly what they were using this as an excuse for but even the fanbois found it doubtful at the time
of course the denial of service isn't official but what is since there seems to be zero communication - - - about anything
Seriously.... if they just said outright that they weren't going to be able to make the date they said they were that would be a whole hell of alot better than leaving everyone to guess. People expect it to be delayed, but what people don't expect is no word on missing a publicly stated date.

First wave of Invites - Thursday January 22 2009

This is an update about what is happening today:
We have sent out the first wave of invites to clans and individual testers. We will send more waves of invites within a few hours. Invited players will be able to download the Darkfall installer.
We are applying the latest patch, and players will be able to start patching soon, and entering the game.
We are spacing out the invites in order to facilitate the download of the client and patching. We will continue sending out more invites every day until we reach our capacity.
Since this first phase has to do with stress testing the servers, and doing final testing on features, we are not lifting the NDA until this testing is concluded.
We apologize for the problems with the forums and the website today, we have been experiencing denial of service attacks, and we are working to resolve them.
Exact same excuse used by NPCube and Farcelan for why DnL was not online on the day that it was promised.
Of course it turned out to be a total fabrication as this will be proven to be also.
Just be honest and admit you are incompotent and can't handle what you have promised. You're going to get crapped on either way, might as will tell the truth before the facts leak out like they always do.
If it was a DOS then I couldn't be tracerouting their servers with a 120ms ping. Sorry gotta throw the BS flag on this one.
EDIT: It just hit me, they would have to be using the same servers for the game download and play as they are using for their webpage if a DOS was knocking both offline. Talk about an amatuerish operation
