What bothers me most.

crysentcrysent Member UncommonPosts: 841

What bothers me most about the hole darkfall situation is not that it hasn't released, or that it hasn't even had any kind of open beta.  While those are certainly alarming I still believe the game is real and will eventually release.

What really bothers me is the way in which Tasos and his team have treated the community waiting for there game.  I will try Darkfall out if it releases next month, or in six months as most of you probably will.  But I am very very worried about the customer service.  Those who played AoC on release know that crappy customer service can ruin a game.  Darkfall may be the greatest game ever if they deliver but I still think they will probably have downright crap for customer service.  He has shown little interest in having ANYTHING to do with his community so far so why will he suddenly care after the release?

The way Tasos has carried himself throughout this hole ordeal has shown that he cares very very little for the community or possible customers to his game.  I dont care if him and his team are just working Real hard on the game and that they want to deliver the most polished product they can at release, they should still give out more information and update us a little more often, espcially on days like today where something was promised.  It certainly coulden't hurt to throw us a little something to keep us occupied.

i agree with you on that they have definitely treated the community like garbage.. they know how badly people want to play the game and they just keep silent when they know they can say something to calm down the masses a bit.. hopefully its not a sign of things to come in terms of how they deal with/listen to the community

It's obvious he's trying to not hype the game, as he's stated before the game is too hyped for them to handle right now anyway.

If they were to release awesome videos and screen shots, what do you think would happen? They'll be more open, I predict, when they have the financial backing to support the masses.

They do have the financial backing to handle 200k users. They stated they recieved a grant of like 22 million just last year. That's more than enough to put aside some for some servers which wouldn't even put a dent in that. The real problem is their ineptitude with how to handle the situation. I'm guessing they have 30 devs on staff and not one of them has any kind of experience with anything beside programming. They really should hire some people with common sense. I can take a guess that they are all computer nerds sitting around with no clue what real life really is.

that's the dumbest fucken shit i ever heard. LOL

If that's the case than maybe those morons should only invite certain people to buy it.

Too bad Tasos has said this himself moron, they denied funding from multiple publishers because they all wanted to change the basic mechanics of "their" game. Sorry they don't have mounds of money like "other" MMOs developers

Good point. Their servers can't handle 3500 people on at the same time, you expect them to be able to handle hundreds of thousands of players?

And these hacks are trying to develop an MMO?

You didn't hear the latest news? He is personaly going to invite 1000 people to play the game, but they have to preorder it. On top of that every month after the game is released they will send out 100 more invites to people they deem worthy. Eventually capping their game at 2000 users.

im not looking for videos or screenshots, im looking for what their current progress is a more than a week before the thing is due to release.. there was supposed to be open beta today, nothing has been said.. the game got delayed 2-3 days before release.. thats ridiculous and should never happen.. im willing to gaurantee they know exactly what they are doing time line wise way ahead of time, but are just waiting till the last minute to give any information

I think when game is launched and they have time to look at how they continuing further they prolly if launch is succes and that is 50k or more players(it was always intended for nich market)they prolly hire someone to customer service.

But if game is verygood with little bug crashes and complete they have winner even when customer service sucks:)

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

I think people forget that making these games, at the end of the day, is a business. They may say things like they don't want to hype the game up or sell it to masses, but the truth is the opposite. The more people that know of the game, the more people that buy it, the better for them and their company.

Speaking of pre-orders. Where exactly do you do this. They say they are going to take pre-orders but don't set it up at there main web site.

Perhaps it would have been best if they would have just gotten a Publisher to do PR, CS and everyting else.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

You have to wire the money to Tasos via Western Union. Then you'll get a DVDR in the mail with the game. Please allow 4-6 years for delivery.

They require that the game make money and they take a huge risk since its their dollar that will be soaked up with advertisements, billing, administration, etc.... Publishers are not going to simply say "Whoa, this game is cool - let's do it!". They will want a lot of charts and predictions, potential subscriber numbers, income projections, etc....
So I think they are having issues with publishers more than they let on - I guess a better way to put is the negotiations and deal-making isn't going well. I think one of two things is happening:

    1. The game does not live up to its promises. The publishers of course have seen it and tested it and very familiar with it. They also know that recent games, that have launched broken and with many features missing, have tanked and have become more of a financial liability than a revenue stream. The publishers Aventurine is courting and are worried for this reason.
    2. The game is living up to expectations but the publishers are worried that it will not have enough of a subscriber base to pay for itself. For example, look at what SOE has done to Vanguard. They made it a very playable game but they changed a lot of things from when it originally was to launch. Ever wonder why the map sucks in the game? It is because originally it wasn't going to have a map because Sigil wanted a very difficult "old-school" game. I think when SOE took over, they knew this would not sell in today's market so they made it more main stream.
I think something similar is going on with Darkfall. I think Aventurine wants an old-school, PVP game that will appeal to hardcore games but the publishers are saying "Wait a minute - how many people do you think will actually continue to subscribe to this game? Sure we like your idea and it sounds great on paper but we think it will drive players away". Right or wrong isn't up for debate here because the company is doing what it thinks is best because its goal is to make money and maximize the profits of its shareholders (the goal of ANY for-profit business).
Neither situation looks good for Darkfall as we know it but I believe a lot of this publisher related issues we are hearing about are related to something like this.

    I'll go with option 3.

    3. Most of the publishers have intelligent people with experience in the field working for them. As such, these people saw through the bullcrap that Tasos was spewing when he was pitching his game to them and obviously did not fall for it.

    heartless,

At least make it clear you're joking because lies like this is what spreads stupid rumors.

Honestly, I don't think that there is anything that can be said or done by anyone outside of Aventurine that will hurt this game and the integrity (lol) of the company making it even more.

Besides, who's to say that it's a lie? No one outside of Aventurine and the publishers they pitched know the real reasons. The scenario I outlined may have happened.

Maybe you should do your research, as Tasos stated (unless he blatantly lied at the Athens press conference) that numerous publishers stated they would fund for a world wide release, but they all had stipulations that would change core game mechanics, and thus Aventurine decided not to take the money being thrown at them and continue to develop the game the way they wanted.

Keep trying though troll, it's making my day go by faster.

You'll have to excuse me for not taking anything Tasos says at face value. Especially after recent developments.

Your scepticism is understandable, but my lack of scepticism should be understandable as well, considering we're both entitled to our own opinions. Until I am shown otherwise, and until the beta leaks are shown to be false, I will continue to hold my opinion of Darkfall and you can continue to hold yours.
