sb.exe error...
LOL
I'm willing to bet there are alot more issues with this game then only server load concerns. They've been working years on it.....2 months vs. 1 month won't matter much at this stage.
oh god all the bugs killed me

right but i just said that becuase it would take the ants out of the pants of people know what i mean
i dont thinkt hey should have announced any release date
I'm not aware of the Shadowbane history, but as a previous poster stated, I think server loads are the least of their problems. From what I've seen of the Beta leaks there are all sorts of issues that are still outstanding. I truly believe that if this game releases on the 25th Feb we will be getting half a game.
Well, SB had several issues that drove me away, one of them being the poor server performance that you pointed out.
The other one was the poor city building mechanic (IMO) where an enemy clan could attack you during off peak hours when there were no defenders and destroy every thing in the town except the 7 or so buildings protected by the tree or whatever it was.
My clan had a nice city, were not at war with anyone and one morning during the work week I Iogged in to find it almost completely destroyed by a 3:30 AM EST raid by a huge zerg guild that ultimately took over the entire server, destroying all opponents in their path.
It was a lot of hard work gone down the drain, and it wasn't even worth fighting for the paltry amount of buildings left standing. Clan disbanded, and I decided it wasn't worth it, and went back to DAOC for another 2 years. Other people seemed to have felt the same way.
I'm hoping that DF's hardcore PVP mechanics don't result in the same sort of frustration, where progress is hard to make, especially when the big guilds start trying to dominate the landscape. In those situations, you are either a member of one of the big ones, or you are left out in the cold.

Well, actually not true.
Any gameplay tweaks can be introduced through patches. Server coding however is the hardest part of the project. So if you have poor programming that causes servers to not support the intended load you are ina lot of trouble because you are going to have to rewrite most of the engine.
severs was just one issue it still hade many ingame things that was bad
I remember very well. I also know that over several years until present the developers of SB have not been able to resolve many of these issue.
Here is the assumption many are making, Aventurine has the expertise to resolve these issues. That is not an accurate assesment based on the history. More time after a given point usually does not equate to a better game. DF had been built on in house tools and engines, chances are these have set limitations.
I would say Aventurine has probably hit the limitation on their abilities. No amount of time (even years more) will likely improve the state of the game. To suggest some how extra time will significantly improve anything is naive.

They changed that a long time ago. You can only attack a city during certain hours now.
The major issue was the Asian guilds. Part of your specific problem was guild structure however. Most major guilds have 2 - 3 cities set up under subguilds. This allows for all of the training and vendor building to be protected along with multiple locations so less damage can occur during a short period of time.
I agree with your general concerns however. Hopefully since DF will be a PtP game the Asian population will be reduced. If they are not expect whole servers to get dominated within a year or so. I have nothing against Asian players, they just have a different mentality when it comes to MMOs. They will swarm and dominate like nothing I have every seen before. If you don't believe me, just ask some veteran players out there.

I will add that server and client stability was one of the breaking points for AoC (The other was lack of end game content). I expect a lot of MMO devs have learned AoC's mistake in this regard

As I remember what I've read (not played SB myself), the game survived a bad release and fixed its servers but then continued to have huge problems due to the number of critic exploits the small team running it was unable to fix in correct delays.
Especially they had critical difficulties with massive gold duping and many PvP exploits allowing to be untargetable.
I think, even if the game survives release, aventurine may experience the same difficulties.
Complete lack of game'sPvE and PvP content...what a fiasco and even on mid-level stuff. No surprise that people left in droves, that they had to combine multiple servers to have any resemblence of population and that a lead designer quit.
Kyleran...
I was in that guild also and remember that well. I quit the game very shortly thereafter. It was extremely frustrating. I logged in and the town was wiped out and the guild was basically destroyed.
Shadowbane had some good concepts, but as a functioning game it was awful. The world was bland and devoid of life. You could literally run from one end to the other and not encounter ONE mob or anything but a handful of trees. The character classes were well conceived but the game was meh.
I played from day one and the rubberbanding and lag, together with the sb.exe errors were simply too much aggravation.
Point is... Good ideas DON'T make a game.
If you look on google, you will find out that Darkfall just enabled things recently that should be done long ago in early closed beta in most games.
Also, the stuff they are fixing in patches are just crazy. Everything sounds like the game is in early closed beta stage.
There is no way this game will be ready by Feb. 25th and if it is released by then, it will be a disaster 10 times worse than AOC.
GAME TIL YOU DIE!!!!
One thing that really annoys me is the term carebear. How can people in a freaking game think they are bad because they pvp? Not like you are on a swat team or in the military. Put your epeen away and get real. You are not a bad man because you are good at pvp.
AoC should have been released 3 months later and with content and a lead developer that knew what they were doing. Having said that, I'd wait another 3 months if thats what Darkfall needed. There's no rush, except for the lonly hearts, I suppose, whose unbearable lives revolve around a computer screen.

While I am not as pesimistic, I agree the patch notes are concerning. Such a short amount of time to get major features working... That leaves no time for tweaks of the game. There are already reports that it is a grind fest to level skills. Chances are with the major update work being done, they will not have time to address these concerns.
Also all that talk about rock solid stability is thrown out the window with those patch leaks. There are definitely some client stability issues still needing to be addressed.
This is of course all speculation based on leaked patch notes.

Exactly. Look, in the end, you're still just playing a video game, not dodging bullets in 'nam, or 'rastling bears for a living.
