Why WOW is still Kicking IT

RenoakuRenoaku Member EpicPosts: 3,157

World OF Warcraft still has the most subscriptions compared to any mmo Based game on the internet, and here is why. WOW, has the easiest Crafting System, and does not require you to group to obtain level 70, Most other mmorpg's have a lot harder crafting system, and are way too grind festive, therefore not worth the time of even playing or the money. Free 2 play games, you simply get ripped off too much VIA item shop's, and all that stuff, so therefore are not worth playing. World OF Warcraft has always been one of the top games on the market, and always will be. Future games will most likely fail hard, excluding those games like Guild Wars, and other games like Global Agenda, and Startrek Online, and Stargate Worlds.

What Makes WOW Fail.

Getting level 70/80 Full Epics, Then having to turn around and re farm all over again, Look for raids just to get the best epic gear, and all that crap, as well as PVP gear, and stuff. Thats why wow sucks big times, and too time consuming, other than that, Hands up to World OF Warcraft.

(OFF TOPIC)

Oh yeah, let me mention, EVE Online is not even worth the money, In the long run, if you wish to wait out of boredom to train every skill in the game to elite, then sure, but waiting to level up real life time, and days, It just isnt worth the subscription costs. And I hope that when future MMO come out they do not do this, because I will personally not be one of the subscribers.

    wow's game wont last forever.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

The crafting system is a weakness of the game, not an asset. Perhaps it's a deliverate weakness, but it is one nevertheless.

The game is doing good because it catters to the casual crowd first and foremost, while still maintaining enough hardcore elements to keep people with more time occuppied. It has also gained a certain momentum and that is also hard to lose.

On the other hand, there is a big interest for alternatives, as the initial sales of both AoC and WAR indicate. Unfortunately, so far none of the games released was ready or had the mass appeal necessary to cut a dent into WoW's population.

I just want to comment on  " look for raids just to get the best epic gear".

The only reason you NEED epic gear is to raid.  If you hate raiding, then you don't need the elite epic gear to quest or run 5 mans.  I have a handful of lvl 80s, but I only raid with one of them.  The ones that don't raid can do everything I want them to do. They do dailies, they run 5 mans, they craft and gather resources etc.. none of them require 'epics'.

The problem is that WoW has an easy system but everyone likes it? Its a common sense, you pay for a game, you gotta have fun in return. People like it because WoW doesnt require you to grind/farm to death. I dont think its a fail, actually its WIN. Easy crafting? Why should people waste their time killing the same mob again and again just for crafting items? Apparently, WoW has better environment, community. (and graphics )

I want to conclude with the fact that F2P games with item shops, which forces players to buy something in order to make their farming/grinding easier, will -of course-  have a hard game play.

wow is the junk food of MMORPG's.

But you will get sick of it, just takes longer for some.

companies follow the wow formula for one reason only, to get the subs.

whats good to me perhaps isn't for you, such is life.

IMHO  WOW is awful, but some like it, good luck to them.

Companies should have different server, one with real tough mobs, so a group is needed, say solo green mobs only.

Other servers with WOW settings /laugh

SOE messed up when they nerf their games, why they do it? give us the choice, let us play original servers.

at the moment nothing appeals to me, the social aspect of gaming is important,  I like to group  etc.

Grouping is dead in todays games, so for me the genre is dead.

If you like WOW then I am glad you do.

WoW is not perfect but it's the best of what we have.

That's not enough for a lot of people here, but that's just the way it is.  Don't hate WoW for being the best, blame the other games for not being better than they are.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

OK, we get it, EVE's too hard for you, and you failed to understand how the SP training system really works towards your benefit. No reason to throw barbs at a game you can't master, hey, lots of folks can't handle chess either.

No doubt, WOW's the most popular game out there. But depending on what criteria you personally judge a game by will determine what is the "best" game in your opinion.

Being the best reviewed, most played and exaulted by other developers (Lastest being Richard Gariott, previous to that Bioware and Bethsoft,  id software before that and countless others - just google some names and WoW and you'll probably find they're playing it), most well known and yes...  most popular... because people vote with their wallet and that makes a difference... the vote of the people makes a difference... hasn't 2008 told you anything?   ALL of these things... COMBINED makes it arguably the best.

Yeah yeah yeah, opinions and all that, but if we all had to agree on a best MMORPG if our lives depended on deciding on one thing, we would pick WoW, because nothing else brings any of the success or acclaim that WoW does.

It will never be agreed by everyone, but right now WoW is the best by all the measurements that matter.  Last I checked, MMORPG.com forum opinion is not considered indicative of anything or relied on by anyone.

History will remember WoW as the king of the genre this decade.

That doesn't mean you have to like it though.  Plenty of people voted against Obama too :p

We get it, you wish WoW was as awesome as EVE and now you have to to randomly put it down in the WoW forum. It's okay Renoaku. We all do it. /patonback

In my opinion, WoW is thriving because of a few things, that make it sound horrible but at the same time work for it:

    A) The graphics are dated although not bad. Many computers can run them, but they're far from unbearable.

    B) The game is VERY simple. At the base, there's not much to it. Skills are usually thrown out in the some combination each time and crafting or advancing requires little effort if you play casually. Yet this lets people get far in shorter amounts of time and lets many people enjoy the games area.

    C) PvP has little risk/reward. It allows people to go into PvP without much fear (and little excitement henceforth. Excitement follows a tight situation or one where you could lose something. Even if it's stats and a 30 second respawn time) but also gives them little reward. Only honor points of which it takes many (it took me 30 Warsong Gulch matches and 30 Arathi Basin matches for a tabard that gives no stats), many games to get anything. Many more for anything useful.

The reason WoW is still going strong is because it is aimed at everyone. You dont need to spend months getting somewhere, you dont need to be the best player to get the best gear. Its a game that allows you to pick up and play.

WoW isnt a bad game. Its just a game. Its aim is to let people log in, play, achieve and have fun in a short span of time.

I played WoW, I came back for Litch King and leveled to 80. I have 5/5 Val on my pally and lock. I recently quit again because it became tedious to me again. Do I want something harder? Something that requires more skill? Something that will be more fun to me? Sure I do.

Will I go back to WoW anytime soon? maybe when I get bored and want to run some instances with friends. Thats the beauty of WoW. No matter how long you are away from the game you can instantly pick it up again and continue. Every content push, every expansion makes the game more accessable and easier to jump back into.

To be honest, I would rather play a game with a smaller playerbase, because the community in those games are a lot tighter than what you will find on most WoW servers. And 200k subs is not by any means a failure. You still have the same people, the same asshats and the same oustanding players.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Translation - yeah, well, then you are just too stupid to understand Eve. Only smart people, like me, can understand it and enjoy it. I didn't like Eve and I wont fault the game for what it tries to be but the "Emperor's New Clothes" type defense most Eve fans throw around is quite annoying.

WoW just tries to be a fun and simple MMO that everyone of all skill levels can get into.

Also, you dont NEED epics for raiding or PvP. Epics are only required for the absolute top level raiding and PvP. And getting those epics isnt nearly as time consuming anymore.

But again, you get epic pvp gear by pvping.  They just added 3 pieces of epic gear (ilevel 200) item from Lake Wintergrasp, you can get another 3 from just honor, more from stonekeepers shards that you get from wintergrasp (or from 5 mans).   If you are just messing around in Lake Wintergrasp or battlegrounds, that is more than enough to let you be really competitive.

The only people who really 'need' the ilvl 213 epics are people who are fighting people above 2000 rating.

About 90% of all my current friends that are playing wow hates the game, truly hates it.. And the fact that they keep subscribing is just stupid. I have no idea why they do this or why alot of others do this as well.. It's just stupid.

I really love the junk food (fast food) analogy people put up, and then follow it by stating "people will get sick of it" (it will die soon), truth is this analogy is so flawed and just shows lack of perception on how the real world works.

Looking at the fast food industry nowadays even with the health issues attached to it and the population being more and more aware of how bad that food is for your diet, they still make billions of dollars in profit every year and that number keeps increasing. So the analogy is flawed from the start if this is true then WoW will never die and they will have the biggest chunk of the market always.

Most players demand so much thing, like kids do; but they still play it. %99 of WoW players actually like it, but they are unaware of this.

Generally, in official forums, all you see is: "imba, op, nerf, noob, owned"

Actually players dont really know what they hate

No real competition that is willing to invest millions of dollars in the game development. Even a simple clone of World of Warcraft with improved graphics and $10 or less monthly fee would cause migration of most World of Warcraft players.

If WoW could be easily cloned you might be right.

Unfortunately people don't fully understand the brilliance of WoW and pass it off as something really simple.   Yet trying to duplicate it would be pretty much impossible, despite what naysayers might like to say.
