I was curious what you all think has the best fishing. WoW is ok at it, Lineage 2 is really fun, its very active type fishing not sure about Lineage 1. I havent tried Lord of the Rings fishing yet. Eq2 is very basic type nothing to see here kinda thing but fun.

I would say far and away UO had the best fishing. At higher skill levels you could fish up a "message in a bottle". Basically, it would say something like "Help our ship is sinking at loc, loc". So if you took your boat out there and started fishing you could get all sorts of rare items from the ship wreck and possibly be attack by a sea monster. Very rarely you could fish up a treasure map. You would have to look at the drawing of a map and figure out where in the world it was. When you got there to dig it up a bunch of high level mobs would attack you. If you kill them all and looted the chest you got even more rare items.
Sure beat getting a rusty weapon or spilling your beer!

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill
Finally a post NOT about darkfall, or Tasos or CoS etc...
Thanks!
As far as fishing and what I feel is top notch programming and planning, I'd have to say FFXI. even though they had trouble with it in the past with people exploiting it, it has been fixed and everything thats involved in the actual fishing is by my terms INCREDIBLE.
You got moon phase, time of day, place where your fishing, what your using for bait, what your using for fishing rod, quests to improve your fishing rod. you can sell the fish to make a decent living, as the in game foods of choice are sushi. I no longer play ffxi but when I did fishing was a main aspect as to why and how I played.
Lotro fishing is very basic at most, nothing really to gain from it, you can sell the fish or try to but you won't get much for your time put in. there are new fishing rods, and titles but in the end you get nothing. In ffxi you can fund your character if you fish the right places and sell em. Moat carp alone can be fished in towns and can be the beginning to a very well equiped entry toon.
That is nothing compared to the fishing that will be in Darkfall.
jk. the fishing in UO sounds like the best. Message in a bottle, sea monsters, rare loots? That sounds hard to beat.

never played UO but in L2 you get monsters and rare loot too, not the message in a bottle thing, but fishing is the base of the secondary crafting system that any player can develop and allow to produce potions, scrolls, fashion accesories and other things. Another piece of the very complex economy set up in L2. About the mechanic it is the more active i have played.

Yea, thats what I love about fishing in Lin2 so many things can come from it.

There was already a thread about this. L2 has the best fishing, FFXI would be my second vote. WoW's fishing just sucks and is boring.
Here's a good vid of L2 fishing:

UO has the best fishing. No one even comes close.
QFT, I played UO a while back.
Multiplayer Games!
Yes, I have to agree with you. Finally a post NOT about Darkfall. lol
I also agree with you on FFXI. I liked fishing in that game as well. The controls were fairly simple as well. When a fish bites the hook it will begin to move the rod to the left, right, or stay in the center. Then all you need to do is counter the movements of the fish with the direction keys (or analog stick if you are using a controller) by moving it in the opposite direction of where the fishing rod tilts to. If it stays in the center don't do anything. It was that simple.
Also, the gear that enhanced your fishing skill was nice to have, especially when first starting out fishing. Many rods and fishing bait was available as well. Whether by crafting or buying them from a shop, it was usually a easy catch as long as you were fishing with the right combination. I can remember learning cooking just to be able to craft my own insect paste. I would catch so much moat carp using that for my bait. I made a good profit off doing that as well.
I no longer play FFXI either. But when I did, fishing was a very simple but yet profitable skill that was able to help me get much of my gil I needed to support myself for whatever equipment, armor, weapons, and items that I required.
Here's to Fishing!

I'll agree with the couple others above, UO had great fishing. FFXI would have to come 2nd. Never tried L2 fishing.
WoWs fishing also had the ability to fish neat stuff up when it first was released. The gold farmers ruined it by fishing 24/7 for green and blue loot.
I know I fished in both UO and EQ, but the experience must not have been very good because I don't remember what it was like at all.
2 moons has good fishing which requires twich skill.
